Quick background:
I am primarily a PC gamer.
I have never once played Destiny 1.
I have literally 0 knowledge of Destiny lore (except from what I got from D2)
Recently, I've been taking an interest in learning about Destiny lore. So I've been watching a bunch of videos to "catch me up". A couple of long videos about the pre-story to D1. Then the "Destiny All Cutscenes" videos.
And I am BLOWN AWAY.
Couple examples: I've noticed that the Vex are taken pretty serious in D1. The Exo girl said that the Vex "were so evil that they hated other evil" or something like that. There was a part where Cayde was like "take them out Guardian, make them pay" in such a serious tone that I got goosebumps. I've never heard Nathan Fillion so serious in this role. Yeah he still had his snarky lines, but he got real. Destiny 2 Cayde is literally a joke. I hate the "Guardians of the Galaxy" humor this game is attempting to pull.
As a COMPLETE beginner to all things Destiny. The Vex have always been a joke to me. They come across as a joke.
"hahaa Vex milk"
"hahaa my name is Osiris, Vex are dummies."
"hahaa Vex turned my arm into a robot so now im a crotchety old man for comic relief"
Literally no encounter with the Vex is serious. Except for when the Curse of Osiris boss (forgot his name) rips Osiris' ghost out of your ghost's shell. That was sick as hell
I dunno, just a couple thoughts from a fresh Destiny boy. I'm a fan of the game. I'm a fan of the potential. I'm just a little sad that I didn't experience Destiny 1 when it was fresh.

12 RepliesD1 was as bad as this same point in its first year look at the forums was more salty than the D2 ones. The game wasn’t that good to start Fact. All the people on here are delusional, it took 3 years to make the game really good except pvp, that’s been broken and not balanced since day one. Will get hate but it’s the truth

Edited by BERSEKAEL: 6/4/2018 6:39:14 PMthe frame rate will give you headache, be carefull with that. edit. oh and many things (half game) has time gated events... locked forever

Ghost stories Destiny podcast and My Name is Byf on Youtube are great sources for Destiny lore.
-
Please don't! It'll only make you sad about how bad D2 is 😩🔨
-
Its not worth buying a console. For just thing game. Anyways ita nolan bot thats narrating so its not going to be much better. Dinklebot was better.
-
4 RepliesGo ahead. Play D1. We won't even notice.
-
4 RepliesWith the ps4 exclusives out there. It's worth getting one. Grab a used one on the cheap.

One thing to keep in mind is that, while I avidly LOVED Destiny, Destiny 2 has a LOT of a QoL improvements (fast travel in Explore, map of area for Exploring, no need to go to Orbit, dismantling in Postmaster, MANTLING, etc.). They aren’t insurmountable — we dealt with it for years — but it is a bit of hindrance after playing the oversimplified sequel. If you do end up playing the game that started most of us on this journey, I’d be more than happy to help you level up/dig for Lore/raid/what-have-you. Well Panoptes (CoO Boss) wasn’t as much of a threat as Oryx. Example: D1, TTK Cayde 6 says in a very serious and mood setting tone : “When your on there, it’ll never fire again” or something like that. It set the tone of the mission. And Oryx was already after us for killing his son so that to. Panoptes was sort of out of the blue. I understand we never knew about him prior which makes sense but for example, he was BEEY similar to Oryx. A vex version of Oryx. Had the wings, summoned Vex, etc. His boss fight should’ve been much harder considering we were in Panoptes’s realm. Also there wasn’t a serious setting tone either for CoO imo. They need to set a more serious tone for their campaigns in D2 like they did in D1. Hopefully they do that with the fall expansion. -
15 RepliesEdited by cooljoe757: 6/4/2018 4:22:37 AMDude, I LOVED D1. But don’t spend several hundred dollars to play a single game that is beyond its time. If you’re going to get a PS4 and play D1, then you also have get in on red dead redemption and other games to make it worth it. The story, it’s not as long as it seems. 99% of the lore you’re reading came from grimoire cards; not experiences in-game. What experiences there are to be had would be incredibly difficult since the player base has largely moved on. But I will say this, you did, in fact, miss an amazing experience (but that’s life, man). In D1, if you wanted certain gear, you had to complete some challenging activities, for example Prison of Elders. Raids, man they were great. It felt so good beating some bad guy who was a true threat to humanity, not some simulated test like the d2 raids. Iron Banner...brah...imagine everyone getting home from work on Tuesday and launching their game ASAP. It was impossible to NOT find a fire team. Then y’all flew into match after match; everyone wreaking havoc on each other. It was glorious lol. This was, for me, the climax of all the grinding, struggling through the raids (and yes, the associated glitches. Raids were buggy). Those moments that you had worked to level your gear or get that weapon roll that you just KNEW would help you take your game to the next level, it all came to its pinnacle in IB. And in case you didn’t know, light level (or power level as you now know it), mattered in THE Iron Banner. To me, Crucible/IB has fallen farther than any other aspect of Destiny. Lastly, the POWER; you know, like when Darth Sidious throws Samual L. Jackson out the window. Yeah, imagine a universe where someone as powerful as the emperor is just another chump target worthy of nothing but bullets. Seriously, you got two or three supers in D1 in the time it takes to get one in D2; and if you only killed one enemy with your super, and that enemy was a yellow-bar, you created 7 orbs (8 in year 1). This made chaining supers a legitimate strategy because 7 or 8 orbs immediately filled your super energy. Now you have to rely far more on lackluster guns that are weak as hell compared to their D1 counterparts, (i.e. rocket launchers had two and three round tubes). Anyways, don’t buy it unless it comes with an app that will turn back time. And if it does, you OWE it to the community to go to Bungie headquarters and slap everyone in the face until they forget about their plan to make a D2.

1 ReplyThe Vex are the core of Destiny. They were the threat. The black garden is where we killed a god for the first time. The Vault of Glass is where the magic took place and where most of us fell in love with that game. If you buy a PS4 I’ll be happy to help! D1 is about powerful abilities, deep lore, funny adventures and texts, mysteries to unveil, long and hard grind to complete, challenges to discover and then achieve to gain more powerful toys. Understand that D2 is D1 for dummies and low stimuli people.

Why would you get a PS4 just to play Destiny? Sure maybe if you already have a PS4 and never played D1, that’s a different story
-
DO IT. If you get PS4 my friends and I would even hop in and play with you. D1 was a blast! However, heed the warnings from the people commenting. Once you get a taste, you'll never think of D2 the same

3 Repliesmust be nice to have money to blow on an underpowered overpriced machine to play one old game AND to add another pay for tier (playstation network or xbox live subscription) to do it. paying your internet AND sony or microsoft for permission for your expensive box to access their own network and then be able to play the game... btw xbox controllers always felt more comfortable than ps ones to me.

A real shame that no one can collect ghosts/siva/calcified fragments and then check the lore associated on the app, because bungie deleted it. I’d get in there quick while it’s still online, only a matter of time until bungie try to turn the servers off and pretend D1 never happened.
-
Do it OP, D1 was fantastic grimdark.
-
4 RepliesCareful, once you try d1 there is no comeback to this trash
-
2 RepliesD1 is basically rated PG13 D2 is rated G. Feels like Disney took over development...
-
Read up on the Book of Sorrows, hands down best piece of lore that destiny can offer in my opinion.
-
Read "Into the Hellmouth." Its a fan writing that follows the grimoire very tightly and involves Burning Lake, The Great Disaster, and eventually Eris Morn and her teams failed attempt to raid the Hellmouth and kill Crota. Its kind of a lengthy read, but definately worth it. So much good info. Give it a try, it wont disappoint.

Destiny 1 was really good. I would highly recommend playing it. I hope at some point D2 gets to the same point of of the first.
-
1 ReplyYeah, the most advanced robots in the galaxy can't walk faster than a snail's pace and 90% of them have peashooter guns. How can you really take that seriously? The other ones are still just as slow and boring. You think they've had some spiders or more effective, nimble designs other than the Droids that fall apart from Star Wars episode 1.
-
Yeah D1 was real. Aside from Cayde annoying Eris, there wasn’t much comedy but that was good because it wasn’t forced. If you thought the vex were scary, wait until you go into the Vault of Glass with no prior information and you get “lost in the dark corners of time”
-
2 RepliesCouldn’t agree more, Destiny 1 was gritty, glum and serious. There was the occasional joke and Cayde was goofy but it wasn’t like the comic relief character is now. The only comic relief in Destiny 2 I find funny is Failsafe just because I think it’s funny that an AI developed a narcissist and sarcastic attitude. Destiny 2 should’ve been as equally serious.
