Quick background:
I am primarily a PC gamer.
I have never once played Destiny 1.
I have literally 0 knowledge of Destiny lore (except from what I got from D2)
Recently, I've been taking an interest in learning about Destiny lore. So I've been watching a bunch of videos to "catch me up". A couple of long videos about the pre-story to D1. Then the "Destiny All Cutscenes" videos.
And I am BLOWN AWAY.
Couple examples: I've noticed that the Vex are taken pretty serious in D1. The Exo girl said that the Vex "were so evil that they hated other evil" or something like that. There was a part where Cayde was like "take them out Guardian, make them pay" in such a serious tone that I got goosebumps. I've never heard Nathan Fillion so serious in this role. Yeah he still had his snarky lines, but he got real. Destiny 2 Cayde is literally a joke. I hate the "Guardians of the Galaxy" humor this game is attempting to pull.
As a COMPLETE beginner to all things Destiny. The Vex have always been a joke to me. They come across as a joke.
"hahaa Vex milk"
"hahaa my name is Osiris, Vex are dummies."
"hahaa Vex turned my arm into a robot so now im a crotchety old man for comic relief"
Literally no encounter with the Vex is serious. Except for when the Curse of Osiris boss (forgot his name) rips Osiris' ghost out of your ghost's shell. That was sick as hell
I dunno, just a couple thoughts from a fresh Destiny boy. I'm a fan of the game. I'm a fan of the potential. I'm just a little sad that I didn't experience Destiny 1 when it was fresh.

5 RepliesThe vault of glass is a real Destiny raid.

1 ReplyEdited by Iron.Rabbit: 6/8/2018 3:01:27 PMGo to https://www.ishtar-collective.net/ and read the lore that's all you really need. But, if you like the gameplay in D2 you'd be blown away with D1's. it's much better.

1 ReplyEdited by JBO: 6/5/2018 11:44:49 AM"Evil so dark it despises other evil." Loved that cut scene. I only wish the game had actually capitalized on the hype and mystery the scene created. I fully agree with you. The Destiny 1 story had a lot more of a serious tone and I enjoyed that. They could have done much better with the universe and lore they created but therr is still a lot of very interesting things going on there.

I replayed that vex mission just yesterday, it was great. And it actually jarred me hearing my Guardian speak. I find your perspective (as a D1 player who still plays D1 more than D2) on Vex interesting and insightful. They are presented rather light heartedly in D2 (all except the Cabal are really) There is a grittier tone in D1 that is not there in D2 that continues to undercut the severity of events and enemies we encounter in D2. It continually disengages my immersion. Every PE with some sort of snarky NPC comment at the end. Majority of campaign dialogue. Our ghost. Cayde takes nothing serious. Nothing feels serious. The only thing less immersive to me is the D2 power scaling of enemies which prevent the feeling of our guardian ever being more powerful than when we started.

Honestly it would be a great deal. Get D1 with all the DLC's that come with it for the price of around a new game. It's a stupidly good deal, though I don't know if people still do raid bosses in D1.
-
Vex were only relevant in vanilla and their story didn’t even make sense.
-
D1 is awesome and is definitely worth playing. Make sure to enjoy the ability to 're-roll weapons in the house of wolves part. I still miss my custom guns...
-
D1 is better than D2. I still play due to the sunken cost fallacy.
-
Please do yourself a favor and get it. D1 has so much content to go through and there are still a good number of people signed on.
-
I would just to also get the other things with PlayStation, but yea D1 was a lot better. You’ll still be missing out on Dinklebot though but you’ll see more of why we miss D1.

Get a ps4 and d1 and do vault of glass best raid ever

For comparison Destiny 2 = I have more fun taking a shit. Destiny = I had so much fun I didn't even take a shit. Seriously if you have friends/people to raid with In d1 you'll have a very good time. You have so much content it's unbelievable. Sadly bungie removed iron banana and trials from it because they knew that d2 will fail. PvP was also not so fun anymore (but still 500 times better than destiny 0.5[2]) at the end because like my point before bungie knew that d2 will fail. - You have way more gamemodes - Way more PvP maps - Way better looking weapons (not 7 - 8 reskins) - 5/"6" patrolable areas - Prison of elders/challenge of elders (fun "horde" mode) - 4 raids (1 is soloable) - Many strikes (all better than destiny 0.5s shit strikes) - Better modifiers (there are even stronger negative modifiers but unlike in d2 you feel like a god in endgame so you are way stronger than those negative modifiers) - Better exotics (gjallarhorn epic mission) - Quests - Bounties - Legendaries are stronger than blues, greens (unlike d0.5) - My level 10 titan felt stronger/faster than my max level vanilla d0.5 titan - you have skill trees where you can choose how you want to play (3 subclasses 3 supers but every super has 3 different choices, example: Warlocks sunsinger super Part 1: grenades recharge faster Part3 : you can revive yourself Titan fist of panic Part 1: you just slam on the floor 1 time and there will be an aftermath effect Part 2: you fly like superman from air and hit the ground (1 time) Part 3: you slam 1 time and the slam is around yourself and also there is an arc wave attacking stuff in front of you - you kill gods not dog's (xol and nokris got thrown away for a fat cabal in d2) - collectibles (ghosts, which give you lore and you can read about it somewhere ((back in d1 you could read about it in the app)) ) - primary, special, heavy weapons Back in the day when people were intelligent enough to not put snipers in one slot with ROCKET launchers. - random/more/better perks on weapons (god rolls are also available and they are huge fun) If you like the points than you'll love destiny 1.
-
If you’re playing Destiny for the lore, you might as well just look up the Grimoire and read it all. The “lore” of Destiny is almost as nonexistent in D1 as it is in D2.
-
2 RepliesDamn it, your post made me want to play D1 again :(
-
D2 as a whole is a joke.
-
1 ReplyEnjoy the Dreadnaught. Many many hours spent running around on that beautiful ship.

😏 Now do you understand why we are so pissed about the history repeating itself? It’s like we are simply in a simulation... of the Vex... trying to cut us out of the Destiny pattern...😯😯
-
3 RepliesPS5 can't be that far away. Eventually, Bungie will shut down D1 servers.
-
I don't think you'll get much satisfaction lore wise. But if playing D1 for the first time, you will get addicted.

Edited by LilDandylion: 6/5/2018 3:24:39 AMI dont think you can go to d1 from d2 it wouldn’t feel right the reason all of us always say d1 was better is because this was the first game on console that was like this the first time on console I got 5 good friends together and we did atheons raid for 8 hours straight the most fun I have ever had in a video game by far you cannot recreate that feeling of destiny 1 after playing destiny 2 you have to think when d1 came out ? First huge game on that generation of console huge loot grind and again something none of us had played before a lot of console players never played WOW of any other mmo so a game that was basically a mmo with RAIDS on CONSOLE that was why d1 was so special to us and after the three years of destiny 1 was done everyone was used to it . I don’t think people love d1 because of d1 I think they love d1 because it was there first experience with a mmorpg type game first game to do weekly raids first game to farm dungeons(strikes) for loot first game to have everything that they have never played I 100 percent promise you and anyone here a person like me or anyone else who has done everything in destiny 1 from alpha and they have done atheons and it was their first real raid type experience there will be nothing that can top that feeling with anything destiny 2 can offer but if you have already played destiny 2 the only thing that would be worth doing I guess would be doing the story tbh even that probably isn’t worth it now
-
3 RepliesQuick answer.... get the ps4, dont buy destiny 1. Some ps4 exclusive games are great... destiny is bad compared to them.... Also if you wanna get it just for the lore.... I got bad news for you... there isnt... even they got rid of the grimoire cards preview that you could only see on the app... game doesnt allow you to see any lore
-
2 RepliesTruthfully, I don’t know if you would get an equal experience from D1 now, especially after playing D2. For me, going into the Vault of Glass and doing a Raid for the first time ever, was the most exciting gaming experience I’ve ever had. Second best was jumping into Crota with my fire team and trying to navigate the maze with hundreds of thrall running at us. So cool. But those days are long gone for D1. It might be cool to experience but I suspect you won’t have the same nostalgic feeling that others have been posting about. I know this statement would be unpopular but I really don’t think D2 is a bad game. D1 faced similar problems in year one and really became great over time. Not saying I like everything about D2, just saying that D1 wasn’t a perfect game either. I think nostalgia gives people fond memories and it’s easier to overlook all of the warts that game had too.
