All this endless talk of MIDA, MIDA, MIDA.
32% of all Trials kills are MIDA! 94% of PvP teams have a MIDA! Yadda, yadda, yadda
Okay, it's a good weapon. It's always been a good weapon. In vanilla Destiny when everyone HAD to have Suros, it could destroy it. When it became the meta in TTK and got nerfed, it remained great.
Why?
It's the RADAR.
Funny story no one ever has wanted to acknowledge as plausible. Thorn in it's prime was easy AF to counter and defeat. My most successful PvP era was Thorn.
Again, why?
IT'S THE RADAR
I spent a few hours and 90K glimmer re-rolling my NA3D1 Salvation State until it had Full Auto + 3rd Eye + Explosive Rounds. It owned the living shit out of Thorn (and most everything else).
But Thoooooooooorn
The masses screamed.
Nothing can touch it's time to kill! It's impossible!
Was the follow-up.
Except I was firing before they rounded corners because of the persistent radar, staggering with the explosive rounds and generally -blam!-ing them up.
I made many a post in D1 about the game not being played in a vacuum or on spreadsheets and that there were perks and variables that won't show up there that make huge differences in actual play.
ARs were considered trash at that time, but the slow firing Abyss Defiant was able to keep pumping damage long after enemies had to reload.
Yes there were great weapons in metas, but there were also counters to every single one of them.
So back to MIDA and D2. Again, very good weapon. Better than any other? Not really.
It's not the most accurate or the fastest TTK. It's very well balanced, but not overpowering. But it's got 3rd Eye and 3rd eye let's players hardscope everything and in D2's 4v4 team shooting play, that equals you're going to get -blam!-ed and -blam!-ed hard if you peak lanes or try to go lone Wolf.
Which isn't too say MIDA is unstoppable. There are MANY great weapons in D2 capable of tearing it up. I love Vigilance Wing, Nergal and Uriel's Gift, but the list is long. But I can also tell you right now, those awesome weapons (I'd take all 3 over MIDA) are exponentially better on my Hunter and paired with Knucklehead Radar.
Destiny 2 PvP is about team play and like D1 PvP (and any shooter) it's also VERY much about map knowledge and awareness and knowing you're weapons that fit your playstyle and choosing those with perks that fit how you play, forming a strategy and sticking to it.
For me at my peak that was lone Wolf, hardscoping my scout. For others it's been sliding with kneepads or running and gunning with shot package.
So what's the point of all of this?
The point is that Destiny 2 at the end of the day comes down to players ability to effectively use their class and weapons better (and smarter) than their opponents just like D1 was, but D1 devolved into a shit show of nerfs and revolving metas because rather than accepting personal accountability for play, it was much easier to blame the weapon.
The problem with all the MIDA blaming is that all anyone needs to do to get one is complete a quest and the game will hand it right to you and if you think it's the end-all-be-all, go equip it and prove it.
But there's the rub. Every team has them but there are not only still winners and losers, a disproportionate number of D2 matches are just shit show blowouts and it's plagued with quitting because it's not the gun, never has been. It's TEAMS whom are playing TOGETHER and COMMUNICATING and playing smarter, better and more effectively than their opponents.

Bottom Line You're being outplayed by the fun, not the gun.
-
It's no effort to get a mida you are 100% guaranteed to pick one up for beating the mission after the main mission. Really don't think it needs to be nerfed
-
2 RepliesVideo proof or everything you're saying about countering Thorn is bullshit.

25 RepliesThe minute you brought up thorn you've destroyed your own argument. Thorn was a two tap headshot. I could disable my radar entirely and be top slayer with thorn. This completely negates your argument OP and I agree with you Mida isn't the major problem. Especially since every player has the ability to get a Mida for themselves. Mida isn't the only problem and it certainly isn't so OP that other guns are useless... A huge issue is the slow regen time. In D1 you could be getting team shot and still were able to escape and regen your health which took about 3-4 seconds... Now it takes about 8 seconds to fully recoup your health giving teams that push hard a significant advantage. Another limitation is a player who was one shot and surrounded used to be able to pull out his shotgun and have a fighting chance. Now you either stand there and die or you camp heavy which isn't even a solution since if someone is shooting at you while you pick up heavy your pick up RESETS. Horribly frustrating game for players who like diversity in PVP and those who arrive to heavy first but have to face teams there before they can pick up their shotgun slugs.
-
3 RepliesIt's an OP gun just because of the statistic you cited at the beginning. I don't care how it's OP - it's Bungies job to work out why it's OP.
-
People stop moaning the MIDA is OP. Do you really want Bungie to nerf all the damn exotic weapons in to the ground like they did with Destiny? I can easily out play MIDA players and i am not a damn PVP player. Buy Armour mods that increase your handling for your chosen weapon, I have a helmet mod that improves energy weapon handling, Gauntlet mod that reduces energy weapon recoil and a Warlock bond that improves energy weapon handling. Other than power weapons like Linear Fusions, Fusion rifles or rocket launchers i can out shoot anything with my Prosecutor assault rifle because Armour mods make it fire like a laser at distance. The radar in the top corner is there for a reason, You keep an eye on it to see what direction the enemy is, If your a noob that just runs or long jumps round corners just focusing on the game play and ignoring the radar and your easily killed by a kid with a MIDA then your deserve to get killed.
-
Gitgud is all I have to say. I use vigilance wing and out of options with phase mag on and with the right team I manage a 5 K/AD+. A lot of people complain not because of mida because even if they used it they'd still be as useless as the already are.
-
2 RepliesTbh, the reason ppl are complaining about mida is because it was one of the 3 most used primaries at the end of D1, and has now returned to take over as the most used. Ppl want change, not the same shit we had in D1
-
Radar is great, but those high caliber rounds are what wins the gun fights. Flinch can be such a huge part of winning a duel right now because it throws your aim way off.
-
8 RepliesTo be fair, 32% for 1 gun, is actually extremely high. Considering there's many many choices. So even there were only 3 weapons, that's still a 1/3 of people using it. I don't understand why people would use that as evidence why there aren't many mida users lol. No sense
-
1 ReplyI thought you quit b.net after realizing how hated D2 is after you were a forum ad for it. Disabling high cal in PvP is probably what will happen, which I'm fine with tbh, nothing competitive about winning a gunfight because my opponent couldn't shoot straight back at me.
-
Team shot is AIDS and the worst thing to ever happen to the destiny crucible.
-
5 RepliesIf it's really all about radar, then why isn't Knucklehead Radar the most OP exotic in existence?
-
At this point I don't think I will even care if they nerf MIDA the pvp in this game is just too boring for me
-
3 RepliesYeah man, the Third Eye perk is the problem. You cannot effectively punish a player who is ADS constantly, because the MIDA circumvents this issue. Scouts have a weakness, you need to actually aim to use them, but when you have a gun that effectively allows you to retain your map awareness, it becomes a problem. I have the same gripe about the Knucklehead Radar. The gun is fine, in terms of power, but it is OP, because it rectified a key weakness on Scout Rifles with its Third Eye Perk. Remove this, and watch a significant amount of players no longer use this gun. Bad players think they are elite at PvP, because while they sit and camp a sight line, they essentially cannot be flanked, due to constant awareness from their Radar. These same players will get wrecked if perks that keep the Radar active were removed. My final point, using the nameless midnight, and a Knucklehead Radar, I was able to outgun a MIDA and avoid being flanked, only because I didn’t have to periodically stop ADS within a long sight line, so I could effectively hold the MIDA at Bay, and only stop aiming to kill a flanker. Yeah, Third Eye needs to go.
-
6 RepliesI was able to beat thorn easily with a hrof scout with full auto and hcr. The trouble with two taping with thorn was, if you can't land that second shot because of your aim being thrown off, you aren't going to win.
-
1 ReplyI got an easy 22 killstreak with MIDA, the gun is just easy af to use
-
5 RepliesEdited by Know Typo: 9/29/2017 3:01:04 PMIf this was true than everybody would be running around with knucklehead radar
-
4 RepliesYou could've ended this post at "teams." I'm being outgunned by teams. A team of four solo queue dudes should never have to face a 4 stack.
-
Maybe you're right. But I can't help but notice if a team of 3 or 4 have mida I lose more gun fights compared to a team using different weapons. Just to clarify I'm saying gun fights meaning actual engagements not being flanked and/or shot from behind where the radar bit is most effective. Just my experience anyway.
-
I was expecting a troll post and am happy to be wrong
-
2 RepliesIf I didn't love stompies so much I'd run knucklehead radar and nameless midnight because it pretty much consistently out guns MIDA and especially at longer range. Mida flinches hard against a weapon with explosive rounds.
-
2 RepliesYou act like you're breaking new information.. like people don't know that MIDA or any gun where the radar remains is automatically an advantage.
-
I think we should all as least recognize the baby steps the sandbox Devs made by stating just because everyone is using something, that it doesn't have to be nerfed into the ground.
-
Without reading all that because I'm sure 98% of it was not necessary, they announced in the TWAB that basically it's good but not OP.
