Why the Heck are there loot cooldowns?!
I really thought this was a bug at first but then i looked on here and found out that Bungie literally put a cooldown on the loot you get. It doesn't even take much to activate the cooldown. I literally just turned it on, got a treasure map form cayde and went to titan to get it but because i killed one high value target and looted the chest he dropped i got literally nothing from cayde's chest. i couldn't even get any alkane spores. I mean i'd understand it if there was some bullshit farming method that became popular so they put in a cooldown so if you are getting too much loot in a short time it makes you wait a while, but i'm literally just casually playing the game, doing things they intended for me to do. In a game that has a high emphasis on end-game grinding you CANT punish players for freaking grinding.

Cause by his wants to artificially extend the time spent in the game till they decide if they want to do events like festival of the lost and the dawning before dlc curse of Osiris drops

It's 4 chests within 5 minutes. It does suck, and hopefully they do fix it, but until then, just don't open up a 5th chest within that 5 minutes and wait.

It's definitely a bug. I've farmed chests in between public events and lost sectors and never had an issue but randomly encounter it mainly with treasure map chests.

16 RepliesTo those of you asking if this is legitimate unfortunately it is actually legitimate there is a timer that has yet to have a specified length or the activity specifically that you need to trigger it on loot boxes. One method to test this out for yourself is to go to nessus where Fail-Safe is, go down into the Lost sector Kill the Boss open the chest come back upstairs then go back downstairs again kill the boss again and loot the chest by the third time you do this which can be done in less than 5 minutes you will be getting nothing from that chest not glimmer nothing at all. This first triggered for me when I did a public event, then the Lost sector once, and joined in on killing a high-value Target... I got nothing for the Target chest. At random times at random places including on this week's Flashpoint Titan I would open a chest and get nothing in that chest and I thought I was just cuz the game is not finished and now it's a glitched but numerous YouTubers including Moreconsole and DPJ have stated casually in their videos that there is loot timers.

So..bungie uses only rng to make people play more Puts loot restrictions on to make sure people don't get rewards too fast or increase light levels quickly. Mmmmmmk

I want to argue that it's a bug. Chests are empty for me at much higher rates if I grab planetary materials first. If I grab materials, put on a planetary ghost shell, and activate the treasure map thing, I might as well forget about getting chests with anything in them. I had about 3 chests in 20 have something in them on Titan once.

I feel like I need to further explain how this is a loot cap. If you can explain the following examples with anything other than a loot cap I am all ears. I was on patrol farming rep mats and my friend joined me after I had been there about 15 minutes and we did a public event before opening a chest, I got nothing and he got a rep token and glimmer. Now me and the same friend the next day went to a planet together and were doing the normal things side by side and then 3 chest in a row had absolutely nothing in them for both of us. No glimmer, nothing. No we were not at glimmer cap. If those 2 examples are not fairly decent proof of a loot cap I don't know what would be.

1 ReplyIt's not a cool down, it's a bug, I did the same thing and the first three chests I opened were empty, not even glimmer. I had just turned on my system and hadn't played on said system in three days, it's a bug. For all of Cayde's chests this week, I got blue pants that were 5 levels lower than the ones I was wearing and a letter fragment ... I recommend not doing these until Bungie fixes things and increases the value of what's in these chests.

As much loot is dropping why are you complaining there has to be something to do later if you grind out everything in 3 weeks what's the fun in that ... now don't get me wrong I've grinded my A$$ off all 3 to at least 303 just about every exotic weapon and completed the raid 4 times but I'm not complaining, play the game dude whatever your actually looking for in doing all this grinding will eventually come

I got the game last week, didn't unwrap it, reading more and more feedback. It would appear that story is fun but beyond that? Not so much. I kept the receipt. Might just taje it back, wait for patches or dlc and see if they fixed up some stuff. T thanks for more info. A cool down on loot is a pretty awful idea.....

Bungie can't have you getting to a higher light too quick because then you would realize that there's nothing else to do and then you would realize that we were sold D1 again - A hollow experience based on an idea and a tiny amount of content hidden behind a huge smokescreen and an admittedly brilliant marketing campaign.

3 RepliesI really don't think there is a timer, or a cooldown. I just think "nothing" is one of the options on the loot table for Cayde's stashes and for location chests. I say this because I got precisely nothing out of the first Cayde stash I opened this week and I'd done nothing prior to it.

Another horrible design decision. Was you doing public events, high value targets, picking up resources, or looting other chest? Any combination of those seems to cause it quite frequently. Also me and my friend were traveling together doing the exact same things and 3 chest in a row were empty for both of us. If that isn't a loot timer I don't know what is.
