So with all the AC games available via remastered or backwards compatibility, I decided to finally play all the AC's. I'd only played Black Flag and Unity but thanks to the Ezio collection and AC3 and all the others available through backwards compatibility I can go through them all as I please
I was really excited to play AC2 because everyone said it was amazing but honestly I was a bit underwhelmed. It was good no doubt but it wasn't AMAZING in my book. Those old controls were pretty clunky and due to said lack of polish, I'd run up walls that I didn't intend to or drop from ledges I didn't intend to. Basically just do a bunch of shit I didn't intend to do with the climbing. However I did love the characters but the Abstergo missions with Desmond and the hand were just annoying to me. Don't yank me out of my good time dammit. That and I didn't really find the appeal of renaissance Italy. I looked forward more to AC3 and Syndicate in terms of setting. Overall I'd give the game a very close 8/10
Brotherhood: I was also excited to hop right into Brotherhood right after that mind blowing ending to AC2 and after that prologue I wanted to play it even more. I think this one was my preferred Ezio game. The setting gave you more to do in the world, controls were slightly better but I still had problems with them, and the characters were back in full force. I also liked the villain especially after he kills Mario. That really made me hate him. Being able to call on Assassins was also great. Solid 8/10
Revelations: now here was where I had some problems. I was not too into this one. I liked how they aged Ezio and the change of scenery was very refreshing and I liked Yusef and Sofia. I also liked the changes with the hook blade. That being said, in the story it didn't really feel like much happened until the end and once you're at the end, it's painfully predictable. Using the love interest to blackmail? Called it. Using a decoy that looks like said love interest to trick the main character? Called it. Ezio was also kind of a prick after burning a village just to get what he wanted and probably got some killed. That completely wasn't like him in terms of character. I'd give this a weak 7/10
AC3: I was looking forward to this one because I liked the setting and the Native American nature of the new assassin and all the features my friends told me about. For the most part I got what I wanted. I know this is a very divisive title. It does have problems but honestly I had a blast with it. Mostly the story really. At first I was really confused because you start off as Kenway and not Connor. Once I finished that up I was immediately hooked. Introducing the villains like that really sets up a tone for them that wasn't in the previous games. There's a personal connection to Kenway and a vengeful one to Lee. Connor was kinda annoying at first but for me his character was like coffee. An acquired taste but once you like it you don't want to let go. I liked the change from Ezio; the charismatic charming and all good assassin to Connor who was the more "don't -blam!- with me" assassin that would slit your throats without a second thought. His character in theory was pretty hard to perfect and I think Ubisoft, overall, did a good job trying. They still didn't explain how Kenway had a hidden blade and the fight with Kenway was stupid, the forced friend murder was sad but still kinda stupid, the chase for Lee was stupid and the final confrontation was so disappointing. I really wanted them to have a deep conversation over a drink about why they did what they did and everything with Connor giving one last dramatic line before killing his greatest foe. I didn't get that and it pissed me off. However, the naval missions, the hunting, and the rope darts and everything we're so fun and that's what carried the game to an 8/10 for me. It was also good to see Desmond and the irritating Abstergo missions leave
Not even going to do Unity
Syndicate: I looked forward to this one because I loved the setting idea and the characters looked interesting and they definitely were. Jacob and Evie compliment each other great but the whole "father this" and "father that" was annoying after a while. I wish we got some dlc where you play as him or something to explain the significance. In terms of content and gameplay this one was probably my favorite along with Black Flag. Conquering territory for your gang and expanding it was so much fun to me. Plus I got what I anticipated and that was the fight clubs. I really hoped they would be there and that made me happy. With the Templar hunts, bounty hunts, child liberations, all the missions with the historical figures, the Queen missions at the end, the interesting WWI missions, the gang strongholds, the train quests, the fight clubs, the train heists, cargo hijackings, I was just overwhelmed. I think this and Black Flag had the best and most fleshed out open worlds. All of this was fun...for a time. Towards the last few sequences I was finally getting tired of doing the same things for each borough and I just wanted to stop. Then the story. The story starts off strong and keeps riding strong but towards sequence 6 or 7 I kept thinking "the story isn't really going anywhere" and it really wasn't. Each sequence was more like an item on a checklist until the final sequence. You don't see any differences with Jacob's character save for his weak moment when Roth was about to blow up some children. Evie didn't ever do anything different either besides her feelings for Henry. I also really like how the Abstergo parts are done in Unity and Syndicate. Instead of being yanked out of your experience and forced to do modern day bullshit that's just boring, you get to just watch a quick cutscene that forwards what's already been cemented in the series and get right back to it. Really like it. Also that final boss fight was stupid but when Jacob and Evie unite and assassinate Starrick at the same time, was pretty cool to me. I really can't decide if I want to give this one an 8/10 or 9/10 but I loved it
I still have not played the very first one though. That one is the hardest for me to get into for some reason. Rogue is next for me. If you've made it this far, thank you for your time reading

AC2 was a spectacular improvement to the original, so during it's time it was generally viewed as a great game. Since every main AC game to date has been very reminiscent of AC2 with added/altered features aside from Unity, it's nothing special these days.
-
My personal favorites are: -AC2 -ACB -AC3 Let's hope Origins brings the series back to life.
-
Assassins Creed - 6/10 Assassins Creed 2 - 9/10 Assassins Creed Brotherhood - 10/10 Assassins Creed Revelations - 7-10 Assassins Creed 3 - 9/10 Assassins Creed Liberation - 7/10 Assassins Creed 4 Black Flag - 10/10 Assassins Creed Unity - 8/10 Assassins Creed Rouge 8/10 Assassins Creed Syndicate - 9/10 Assassins Creed Chronicles - 5/10 - I couldn't enjoy the original AC game. - AC2 was incredible naturally - AC Brotherhood is one of the best sequels in gaming to date. - Revelations was alright, it was a little slow but still fun. - AC3 I consider my favourite of them all. I loved the timeframe, characters, environments, story & it revamped all the systems from the previous titles like the running, jumping, combat, etc. - Liberation had the first female assassin and while the story was well done, the game itself wasn't all that polished. - Black Flag is, well, perfect. - Unity aside from the bugfest at launch which screwed me big time for multiplayer, was fairly decent after a few patches. Story is great, Arno and Elise are fun characters and Paris is absolutely gorgeous. - Rouge was pretty much 3 & 4 mashed together with a Templar story which was refreshing and how it linked to unity left me happy. - Syndicates London is my favourite setting, I adore the sibling relationship. - Chronicles was meh.

2 RepliesUnity was fun if you actually paid attention and made your own opinion about it.

1 ReplyWell since Xbox players apparently don't like story driven games ps plays most likely only liked these games.
jk it's just funny when Xbox players say story driven games aren't good
7 RepliesQuestion about Revelations. What village did Ezio burn down to get what he wanted? I've played through that one several times and don't remember him burning down a village just to get something. I remember him inspiring citizens to rebel against corrupt guards, which led to a riot and a fire in a small distract of the city, in order to gain access to that district and catch the Templars buying/selling weapons. Also the Templar village, but that was mainly burned down by accident. He blew up the weapons and ammo they had stockpiled and it got out of control. Most of those people were Templars anyway so f*ck them. Lastly when they are chasing down the bad guy at the end of the game it's the Templars that are attacking/burning the small towns that they ride through.

2 RepliesHave you played black flag it was my favorite by far didn't care much for the others give it a try if you get a chance

I have played all the ac games multiple times and I would say play the ezio collection and watch both films. Play ac1 and 3 to finish Desmond's story. Obviously play 4, skip unity and syndicate play rogue.

2 was fantastic for its time, it is a huge improvement on the first game, it essentially kept the heart of what people loved about the first game and fix a huge number of the problems, this is the main reason two has such glowing reviews. That being said brotherhood also did a very similar thing, it made significant improvements and delved far deeper into the actual organization of the assassins (something people had been wanting for the past 2 games). However brotherhood feels like closer to that sweet spot for things like free running, and assassinations (two of the biggest parts of the franchise), and this has made it hold up much better than 2. This isnt to say 2 is a bad game, it is just that brotherhood is far closer to the ideal assassins creed game. Revelation was ok, it was more so meant to answer the questions of what happened to ezio and what happened to Altier (forgot how to spell his name), unfortunately this story wasnt done nearly as well, and it didnt really do anything to improve upon the past games so it kind of falls short. I really didnt like 3. Didnt care for the setting, i am not American and i dont really care for the story of Americans fighting Americans over politics (the freeing of the slaves came later in the war). The main character flipped between being whinny and pig headed constantly. Also the whole his father changing side really didnt feel like it was explained (unfortunately since that could have been very interesting to explore more of). Then you have the actual mechanics, hunting and skinning animals was cool, along with building up a settlement. However some of the things you had to do to help your settlement were just stupid, such as waiting for them to do specific tasks and you watch them while they do it. Then you have added mechanics like the trade system, a cool idea, however it was far to complicated, all te crafting things into other things, using shipping routes, and finding the right merchant was to much for this kind of game. It would be fine as an idea for a seperate game or part of a game that has a lot more to do with trade and shipping, but not really great for an assassins creed game. Unity there isnt much to say about, it is terrible, terrible setting, uninteresting story, terribly glitchy, bad combat (dont know how they screwed that up after to many games), even the free running felt wrong. Just not a good game. Black flag was a fantastic game, but kind of an odd assassins creed. Te ship battles were fantastic, the combat felt amazing, the stealth was decent but i preferred to spin around with pistols and duel swords. It would welcome it starting up a separate franchise for them or at least a set of spin offs, but it just doesnt fit with assassins creed. Syndicate is pretty cool, i like the story, and the combat is back to being fluid after unity screwed it up. Free running feels good, carriage driving is cool and destructive. And having the two separate characters is a cool idea. However i didnt finish it, maybe it got a bit boring for me or i have just played far to many assassins creed games and needed a break from them for a while. Still a good game, i just havent finished it yet.

Edited by Pito25-03: 7/8/2017 3:51:33 AMRevelations: old Ezio was fantastic; my favorite one Black Flag: Pirates, need I say more? II: Leonardo DaVinci as an ally? Awesome!! Brotherhood: DaVinci again and on call assassin gang? Yes!!!! III: Connor is a honey badger version of an assassin. Doesn't give a shit and the fckn NAVY!!! I: Humbled Altair has to start from the bottom and work his way back up the ranks. Who doesn't love a come from behind hero? Unity: broken mess, hated it. Syndicate: haven't played

I bought the Ezio Collection a week ago for PS4 and it took me 6 days to complete Assassins's Creed 2 with 100 sync and a platinum trophy. Now I'm currently playing brotherhood and received the sword of Altair early in the game. Overall, the series is remarkable except for unity.

6 RepliesEdited by crazeeavery: 7/7/2017 3:53:45 PMI used to love the AC games but for the life of me I can't seem to get in to any of the games past Black flag. The one thing that irked me about them all is the lack of good stealth mechanics. They were more action adventure. Syndicate tried to fix this but failed.

AC 7/10 | Altair, a bad***. Sucks we didn't get a direct sequel but his story expanded over several games which was good. AC2 9/10 | Ezio is born, best character ever in the AC universe so far, devs didn't know what they were building at the time. AC Brotherhood 10/10 | Favorite of the series, just am overall great game. Lucy was killed off which was a stupid thing to do but... Oh well. AC Revelations 8/10 | 5 points since Ezio is in it, 3 for good story, minus 2 since it didn't have as much to do like Brotherhood did. AC3 7/10 | Fun and all but I don't know, didn't have the feel like other AC games. Desmond is killed off, can't believe it, why!? Loved him as a character. AC4 10/10 | Second favorite. Pirate setting, heck yeah! Epic character as well. AC Unity 4/10 | Game sucked overall, customization was the only thing that was fun, sorta. AC Syndicate 6/10 | Didn't care for the setting, good story though. AC Origins ?/10 | Looking forward to it. Hopefully it's Desmond's son that is the protagonist.

I loved the pirate missions for AC3. I just wished we were able to board more enemy ships more often.
-
I've still got to complete Unity, and I really struggled to get in to it, which doesn't help. I don't want to start Syndicate until that gets done.
-
3 RepliesThat's your problem. You're judging 8 year old games by modern gaming standards. Back when AC2 came out it was ground breaking for its time. Very few, and I mean very few games age well. Most ACs won't age well.
-
11 RepliesYou should give Unity a chance. I liked it quite a bit, having played it five months after release when it had been completely patched. It's probably my favorite setting since the original. I'm feeling the need to rank them myself now. Here's my list: Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood Assassin's Creed Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Assassin's Creed II Assassin's Creed: Unity Assassin's Creed III Assassin's Creed: Revelations
Did anyone else love the "The Truth" puzzles? They were such a mind -blam!-, but they were awesome I thought.
-
I agree for the most part but you cannot compare games of past to current. The reason why AC2 and Brotherhood was so good was because of the story and characters. The current games don't have that kind of emotional, genuine characters. I never had any issues with the controls, you just have to Git Gud.

1 ReplyIt's a great series. I've played(and liked or loved) them all except Syndicate, Liberation and Rogue. I own Syndicate, but I wasn't able to get into it at the time. Now I'm worried I may burn myself out on it with Origins right around the corner, which looks far more interesting to me. To anyone who has played Rogue: is it basically the same game as Black Flag? It seems like I remember hearing that, but it's been a while since it came out, so I may be misremembering.
-
I fell off after 3. The Desmond story got so convoluted.
-
I've only played AC 3 so far. Just got it. I like it a lot, but I want to start off as the main character. Not take 3 hours to play as some other guy before I get to actually be an Assassin. That's why I want to get Syndicate from the summer sale because it doesn't take forever with the modern sequences, and it starts you off right away as an Assassin, which I like.
-
Didn't really like them at all, but the sideacroller Chronicles games were cool!
-
3 RepliesPlayed them all except Syndicate, and Rogue, and I loved them all. Revelations was my favorite overall. I prefer aged Ezio over young Ezio in just about every way, found the atmosphere & missions overall more fun, though I do agree the story was lacking a bit. Imo, the Altair segments made up for that, as he's my favorite Assassin. Second for me is 3. Sadly, my data was wiped before I actually finished, but I believe I was somewhere between 50%-80%. Connor is my second favorite assassin, and aside from the naval missions, very good gameplay. I'd say Brotherhood & Unity are tied for me. The latter is actually really fun (now) so I'd give it a shot. As an AC game, 2 would come next, but in general, Black Flag. It was a great game, but more of a pirate game than an Assassin's Creed. No real additional input on 2. I will say, I don't get why people like Ezio, though. He annoyed me. The first was okay. Hasn'f aged the best. I feel like I'm forgetting one.. Oh well. If we include side games, the Chronicles trilogy is probably my favorite, aside from the stupid ending.
-
1 Reply7/10 is NOT a weak score
-
Black flag was my favorite. I spent a lot of time on the seas. Syndicate was good I wish the whole game wasnt in one city. I liked how there were different cities in the original ac. I didn't like the one with Connor.
