Despite what I've read on some posts, for the most part, everyone will be using the same weapon. Sure, everyone currently grinds to seek out that perfect god rolled weapon, but, because of the infinite number of roll possibilities, very few are actually identical. Similar, yes, but not identical.
Fast forward to D2. Like always, word will quickly get out on which weapons are the most effective. The difference is that without that level of RNG variety and customization, it will only happen sooner. A gun is what it is. No potential for greatness. No carrot to chase after.
This change had one purpose in mind, and one purpose only... To eliminate god-rolled PVP weapons. While that may, on the surface, have a benefit or two, it comes with great costs... One of which was a main source of enjoyment when playing D1. You know that pinch of excitement you feel when you get a new weapon, and you quickly look to see what perks you got? Man, it's like a little mini-Christmas morning every time. Well kids, Santa is dead. Bungie killed him.
Just my 2 cents.

There is still plenty of chance for customization with weapons mods

i'm with you i loved the grind for god rolls, but i have a question?? if they thought God rolled weapons would be a problem in pvp play why have them drop in the crucible, with iron Banner all about top tier weapons and gear??? it's just another monster THEY created.

1 ReplyIt's bullshit. PvP complainers have officially ruined this game. They are too scared to create anything to give people an edge for dedicating a lot of time into the game. This game will die quickly. No more grind to get that one roll you want. Now people will still complain weapons are overpowered. Just another reason how their terrible PvP experience is killing the entire game.

Here's something that no one is talking about: When Luke smith made those statements, he referred to the one example gun as a "Crucible Hand Cannon". Well, what exactly does that mean? That you can get it from the Crucible drops/ quartermaster OR did he mean that its a gun thats "ONLY" a Crucible weapon? This would be a dramatic change from the current design, but i wouldn't put it past Bungie at this point. And if it does mean that its a "crucible only" weapon, is it gonna feel even more limited? I feel like the interviewer should have asked what this meant, though it kind of slid past him. This might be me just reading into stuff, but they are so bad at explaining that i really don't know what to think.

Wank. The grind for weapon rolls is what made destiny for me. RIP
-
I'm confused by the move. From vanilla destiny to House of Wolves the game was ruled by weapons that bad static perks. Ghorn, black hammer and raid elemental primaries. And that made the game feel pretty stale to me. Having random perks on guns was really all That TTK and RoI had for replay value until age of triumph. And even then grinding for the perfect eyasluna is all I do. So for D2 it's kinda going back to vanilla destiny where entually everyone will know what weapons have the best perks and every single person will be using that again if they can get it. And that feels like a huge step back.

Ratchet.

I never believed in Santa. I've never been particularly joyful when getting a well rolled weapon. Just a "hey, it's not crap". I think it'll be nice because the system makes for a much more balanced PVP. If one weapon is making too much of a fuss, they can adjust it without affecting any other weapon, or without necessitating a "god" roll for that particular weapon. Plus, since they've mentioned that there's a lot more guns in D2, I'm sure there'll be more variety in weapons that stand above the rest.

39 RepliesAnd here is my 2 cents: In D1, getting a weapon drop is a very similar experience to sitting in front of a double-slot machine in Vegas. It's outright gambling. Double-layered RNG (a common RPG practice) is used to create an artificial sense of variety, rarity and "value". The false idea that the game has vast pools of weapons. In reality, luck-of-the-draw and literally nothing else separates you from getting a "perfect" roll on your first try or on your 1000x try, 300 hours later. It's a frustrating, old-school MMO mechanic that only truly satisfies one chunk of the player base. Who, at least IMO, are addicted to the grind, more than anything else. Addicted to chasing that "carrot". So, what this change means is that the loot in D2 will have one less layer of RNG in the mix. You now hunt for the weapon itself (and the presumably mods for it). Instead of wading through an ocean of garbage-rolled, slightly different but similar weapons. Just to convince yourself this game has endless loot to give. It moves the game in the direction Bungie has been doubling-down on. Which is, Destiny shouldn't be a second job. Having to sit there and compare the item that drops to the almost identical item you have currently in your inventory to the spreadsheet on the Internet that tells you what the "ideal" build is, for every drop, genuinely only appeals to a small percentage of the greater player base. All that said, what will ultimately make or break this new approach is how wide and varied Bungie makes the legendary weapon pool in D2. Only time will tell. Honestly, what this "community" needs to be focused on is encouraging Bungie to fill D2 with more meaningful activities to take up our time and bigger/better goals to strive towards. NOT berating them for removing a BS mechanic that fooled us into thinking that RPG busywork has more meaning behind it than it actually does.

4 RepliesYeah, id say too that's the main problem with the change. The Christmas comparison is very good. I get a Luna, I'm excited to see what roll it has. Unless you have a god roll on everything, most people will always go "Oh! I got an Eyasluna! oooh, i wonder if it's good?" While the new system is good for balance perhaps, there will still be the Matador-esque shotgun and the Eyasluna- esque hand cannon etc etc. They are taking away the shooter-looter aspect of it a little more in favour of making sure every gun is on the same playing field, but it means that awesome endgame loot like the VoG weapons in year one (for example) won't be in Destiny 2. TLDR the grinch will steal our rewards
-
The main source of enjoyment shouldn't be just replaying the same content over and over again for a weapon that has a decent roll. It should be through various activities and world exploration. Also, if it is anything like most loot based games where the gear has set abilities, it means the gear will be more worthwhile and more plentiful, as well as worth seeking after to make a collection, which is what most hardcore gamers in those games do.

I'm honestly very glad random rolls are gone. No more Palindrome. No more HCR Clever Dragon. I can finally feel useful with weapons I like.
-
i love it. i always hated to to see i got a drop of a weapon i wanted to find out that i had crap perks on it. however, i don't think bungie got rid of the grind. i would think the grind will still be on, to get that one gun to drop, that i really want. i am sure there will be a lot of re-skins of a base model just with different perks and names. it's all up to the developers to come up with interesting weapons and perk combinations. i hope they are in a generous mood when crafting those guns...
-
It's funny you say that, because the weapons I use 90% of the time are the ones with set perks.

7 RepliesCatering to casuals is garbage.
-
There will be so much new stuff to discover that worrying about whether I should dismantle my first legendary weapon drop is going to be the last thing I want to do.
-
1 ReplyI hate the double rng, but unless bungie has a way to make getting duplicates exciting it will get stale really quick. They got rid of reforging in HoW for a reason
-
Sure I've got plenty of drops that were the same but it's the RnG on the perks that matter. Some guns are good and the perks make the awesome but most guns suck and it's the perks that make them good.
-
My thoughts exactly. When some of my friends quit playing and they came back and I was melting Bose's and destroying things they would ask what gun am I using. I said oh I'm using the best PvE primary in the game the Hand of Judgement with Explosive Rounds and Triple Tap. They asked me how I got it I told them Variks HoW rep packages and I told them good luck I flipped it 15 to 20 times between two characters before finally landing my first one and I got lucky because it had the perfect roll. They still don't have it, but while they were gone I was grinding for it. I have used it as my Raid primary for more than a year now. I will miss it. None of these BB gun scouts I have seen from D2 will ever compare because of the impact + perks on the HoJ destroyed Yellowbars...melted bosses with a quickness. Which helped us get through the D1 content too quickly. Become Legend yeah right your unique Guardian now looks and plays like everyone else's. All with the same weapons and same gear with the same stats. Way to conform Bungie. Your the U.S. Government of Gaming.

I can understand that, but am kind of excited for this. It honestly got grueling trying to grind for a god rolled eyesluna for example. I kind of realized that I was no longer playing for enjoyment at times but to try to get the right combination of pixels on a digital item. If they can beef up story and other elements that make me enjoy the game then I think that can make up for it. Grinding for perfect rolls kind of made me feel like I was addicted and not even enjoying myself with the game when I stepped back and looked at it. Just my two cents.

Edited by Famdian: 7/3/2017 8:00:37 PMSeems like it might be better for PvP. Personally I like chasing gear, this seems like another move away from it. Either way I'm sure I will like the game and put more hours then I should into it. Guess we will no more once we can actually get hands on.
-
Have to wait an see but i am a bit worried about this. Once you have all the guns then what nothing to play for anymore.

4 RepliesBungie is working hard to increase the time to kill in PVP and PVE. Eliminating weapons perk rolls is a step in that direction. They are making enemies more of a bullet sponge and tightly controlling weapons perks to keep the weapons nerfed down. So Guardians do less damage and have weaker weapons with more recoil, less range etc. so they can artificially extend playtime because the game will release with a small amount of content. Bungie wants everything, missions, strikes, nightfalls and raids to take longer and be harder. That is why supers like the warlock self res, the titan bubble with helm of saint 14 and others have been removed, they would rather your fire team start all over again than self res or bubble and save the day.
-
Homogenizing loadouts is an attempt to push competitive PvP. And its going to fail miserably.
-
My opinion is bungie is making weapons with set perks so y'all can cry about a perk set being too op oh wait they did say that D2 isn't going to be getting any nerfs those days are over
-
10 RepliesIt is the only way Bunghole can even attempt to balance their weapons for PvP. Sad that it completely shits on PvE players. What's the -blam!-ing point in grinding now?? If Sniper A is just as good as Sniper B, then who gives a shit about grinding for both?
