From a PvP standpoint I can see why they went this route. It will vastly reduce the stranglehold shotguns and sniper rifles had on the crucible. But from a PvE standpoint I don't see any benefit. Having shotguns, fusions, and sniper rifles grouped up with rocket launchers and machine guns will limit our ability to adapt to different situations.
Before we were able to wield both a sniper rifle to take on Tanky bosses and rocket launchers and machine guns to deal with mobs of enemies. Now it seems like we're gonna constantly have to switch up our power weapons to deal with different threats, losing our ammo in the process, instead of just simply pressing a button.
This system just seems to limit our weapon choice for pve engagement instead of broaden it. Plus,in my opinion, I don't really see how a sniper rifle or shotgun fits into the POWER weapon category, unless bungie plans on completely overhauling their damage.

This new system allows snipers and shotguns to be OP as hell without messing up pvp. Being able to carry a Scout and an auto rifle will be sweet too. Your power slot choice will need to be tactical depending on the boss and your fireteams loadout.
