Not sure if you noticed but shotguns, fusion rifles and snipers (aside from ice breaker and NLB) were essentially deleted from the crucible ever since patch 2.5.0.2.
All for what? Because shotguns were OP? The recent nerf to sidearm ammo will likely not do much other than drive people to use icebreaker instead.
Special ammo was NOT the problem. Shotguns, were the problem. For myself and lot of others, the special ammo nerf has sucked the life out of this game.
Can primaries and special not coexist some how? Think about Year one

I came back after months of being away and this is a pathetic change, pure laziness. People complain about special overuse and want more situational weapons. Maybe if primaries were more suited for their own situations we wouldn't have this problem. Now everyone is forced in to battle with one loaded weapon? That's lazy af. Special weapons did exactly as they needed to, i think people were just butthurt over getting killed the way the weapons were suppose to function. Congrats for dumbing this game down to pretty much 4 different weapons now. This change alone has lazy written all over it. I was skeptical of Destiny 2, but now I'm definitely skipping that if this laziness keeps up.

62 RepliesYou're looking at this too narrowly. They didn't change the ammo to deal with just shotguns, their goal was to curb special use across the board. Make it more situational. Now when I get a special kill, especially if I can string them, it feel more rewarding than it did before. Bottom line is people were relying on specials for the majority of their kills and that needed to change.

5 RepliesShotguns were not op
-
Crazy lazy. "Shotguns" were being used way too much. Actually, only matador and party crasher. They could have brought in the range on those two and called it a day. Same for hand cannons. Only Luna and palindrome were issues, not exhiles student or fate bringer. It appears blanket fixes are much easier than tweaking one weapon.

4 RepliesWell the thing is, shotguns weren't op, they were the most complained about, so bungie decided to destroy the whole special economy. Bungo:Did you say buff bladedancer community? Did you mean nerf quickdraw, blink, and hungering blade? Bungo:Did you say buff primaries?(What majority of community wanted) How about we destroy the whole special economy! Bungo:did you say that you want special back? No! Bungo:Did you say clever gives too much flinch? How about we nerf the ammo capacity, rate of fire, and destroy the flinch?
-
1 ReplyShotguns weren't even remotely OP. The problem has been weak primaries ever since the launch of Taken King.
-
I think instead of nerfing shotguns, maybe they should have just buffed everything else

4 RepliesProblem? Shotguns are OP Bungie's Solution? Destroy Ammo for all Specials except Sidearms Not the first time a whole class of weapons get destroyed because of a few other ones, Example: Dark Below: Problem? TLW/Hawkmoon/Thorn are OP Bungie's Solution? Nerf Perfect Balance (because TLW has it), Nerf Send-it (because Thorn has it), nerf hammer forged (because Hawkmoon has it) on every other single weapon in the game. Even Accelerated Coils was nerfed on fusions as a result Lol.
-
2 RepliesThe nerfs they did were good enough to make it balanced but then they removed special ammo and suddenly everything was worse.
-
1 ReplyNo shotguns weren't the problem, this community high dependency on special was the problem. Also you speak of year one a lot has changed since than and one of those factors is totally out of bungie control.

Edited by Swiftlock: 4/1/2017 7:27:43 PMNerfing the crap out of everything and doing almost nothing for said nerfs is the lazy approach to balancing the game, period.

24 RepliesThat wasn't the worst of it. The special ammo nerf punished EVERYONE who relied on their special weapon. If you used a special weapon as your de facto primary, you were punished. If you mained a primary but used your special for times when your primary wasn't the ideal choice... YOU WERE PUNISHED! The only people unaffected by this horrible mess were people who used only their primary. Further, Bungie knew how much most players hated the change and refused to reverse it, suggesting that this was not a misstep, but a deliberate effort to force us to play their way. I think they hope the anger will eventually die down, and the new meta will ultimately be accepted. They've also accepted that many people will leave PvP in disgust, hence the reduction in available Crucible modes.

3 RepliesI don't use shotgun and hated getting shotgun charged but I will disagree on shotguns being op. The special ammo nerf was kinda lazy and I agree with you on that but in no way were shotguns op. The big problem was primaries were too weak. They still are.
-
2 RepliesYep, if they had buffed primaries, it might have been fine, but they still suck. I'm so tired of losing gun fights when I shot the enemy first. Removing special on death just slowed an already boring game mode even more. Crucible used to be fast paced and fun. The crybabies ruined that. I hope PvP is separate from PvE in Destiny 2. Otherwise, the whiners will ruin it too.

1 ReplyThe sandbox alone is my biggest concern when it comes to next Destiny. If they can't handle with what they are dealing with now, I can't see anything really changing in any future DLC. It's going on 3 years now that the adjustments in this entire game has only headed one way and seems to be this companies only solution. I don't know what it will take to improve this, but how things have been handled IMO need to change. Hopefully for both types of gamers in this game the adjustments will be separated in some forum...

1 ReplyIf ya recall, special ammo was only brought in on respawn in elimination to nullify ice breaker. Looks like their all knowing ways have brought them full circle
-
Not without an unacceptable primary ttk for many
-
10 RepliesThey should have left specials alone and just simply buffed primaries
-
5 RepliesYou all asked for a primary meta
-
5 RepliesWrong; having an abundance of ammo available for any kind of one shot kill weapon was the worst thing destiny did with its pvp. Snipers and shotguns are power weapons and should not be always available to the player. Halo was always so competitive and skill-based because it was a slower ttk, primary based gameplay where holding power weapons gave you an advantage. With the special nerf, they made the game more primary based and more like halos pvp but there are still plenty of differences that don't make it a carbon copy
-
1 ReplyCouldn't agree more with this post! Incredibly lazy on Bungie's part to simply remove special from the equation rather than actually nerfing shotguns back to normality. Bodes the question, why did Bungie take so long to make the change when all they did was essentially remove special altogether?
-
1 ReplyIt's awesome, I like how you lose all the special ammo when you die. Luckily I'm a sniper and with an icebreaker so I'm not too worried about losing ammo :)
-
Not really, imo by reducing special it essentially saved everyone from greater special nerfs. Considering specials cycle after every nerf that's kind of obvious isn't it? The best solution was to reduce special itself. I just hope in destiny 2 there aren't any regening specials or spawn with special ammo weapons. I'll give you an example: Shotguns were cheap as hell in year one, they got nerfed, everyone switched to snipers, snipers were nerfed, everyone switched back to shotguns. They nerfed special then everyone switched to side arms and regening specials. They essentially almost fixed the issue, however these factors still need to be changed to suit the changes.
