The Nightfall strike was supposed to be challenging and because of the way the Light Level worked back then, it made it extra difficult if you went in under levelled.
But the problem with all this "difficulty" was that it made every strike all about hiding in some wee hidey hole poking away at the boss for a long time. The fight had no dynamic, no back and forth and after 15 minutes it was -blam!-ing boring.
Anyone actually remember Year 1 Rockets McDickface? - That was the definition of bullet sponge in physical form😐
So, the design of the strikes for TTK were changed into more of a Gladiator Arena style, where you can't hid under ramps or in the wall and take 0 damage, you were required to fight.
And let's be honest, have we really forgot or are we just lying to ourselves that the old rewards were just as undesirable as ghosts?
Remember the badly rolled B Line Trauma? The Badger CCL, the Warlock arms you don't need?
Imagine Solar Burn Shield Brothers inside that room, everything shoots solar. Imagine going back to Orbit because all those ads poured out and went mental😐
Imagine Void burn Wretched Eye😭, you will die in less than half a second, that's not "challenging" that's just stupid.
I miss the blue flame, that's about it. Nightfalls were excellent when you were Light Level 26 on a spare character who had -blam!- all and anything was a positive.
After 10 weeks you had a lot of great items, and that means the loot you require is a smaller and smaller pool.

Edited by TheArtist: 1/12/2017 4:35:56 PMOr the Fourth Gjallarhorn when what you really wanted was a Hawkmoon? Or you got caught of position for a split-second ...and some mob one-shots you....sending your team back to orbit and erasing 30 or 40 minutes worth of work? This nostalgia for Year One is getting out of hand. The Year One loot system was BROKEN. People were forced to play the Nightfall (whether they wanted to or not) because it, and the raid, were the only reliable ways to get the non-quest exotics. Which was a HUGE barrier to a lot of players.

PVP wasn't in anyway rewarding, minus the odd miracle of an Exotic drop. Now PVP is much more rewarding, some may disagree but I just see it comparatively Destiny isn't just about PVE or PVP, they work together.

I'll take a b line trauma over three of coins any day...
-
Yea but with guerrilla fighter and grenadier? Yaaaaaaaaaaay😒
-
Guérilla fighter didn't exist back then, only the good perks were there
-
Yea I couldn't think of a shite perk. +2 Agility?
-
But you probably had field scout to push the mag to 27 or perfect balance to get the effect of braced frame but without affecting mag size.

Preach. I did get annoyed feeling like I had to do NF on each character before they could do anything else. You were cheating yourself out of the rep bonus (rep was harder to come by then with less rep gains from events and fewer bounty slots) and if your friends/clan mates weren't on yet you felt like you were spinning your wheels, unless of course it was a soloable NF, but even if/when that was the case I preferred to run w friends, b/c once they were on I was going to be running it again w them anyway. I miss the flame, but definitely not the "challenge" of being kicked to orbit on a wipe. That just created frustration and animosity. And wasted the time of players who might not have all the free time in the world.

You spoke everything that needed to be said thank you sir
