Every game its just blink, roll, slide shoulder charge shotgunners 1 shotting across the room. This is the reason I left Destiny 1 year ago because I had enough finally. Shotguns have been a problem since launch. Bungie "nerfed" them once but then gave everybody Conspiracy Theory D with crazy range AND rangefinder on it. Now the Matador is the only weapon in Crucible until Gally comes out on Heavy, there are very few players using primaries.
The really flawed game design with shotguns is that there are so many ways to close the distance effectively, they do not need the kind of insane range that they have if you have things like blink, shoulder charge, slide etc. Range should be toned down a fair amount from 6m to about 4-4.5m. If they do have range then they should have at least a 25% slower fire rate so they cannot be mashed from mid range in 2 shots. The kill times are stupid at the moment when compared with other "options".
I would also argue that the cone of fire from a shotgun is thick enough that it shouldnt need the largest of cross hairs to aim it. That big white ring of death for a cross hair really shows that shotguns take 0 skill or strategy. In the current state, pvp is at its worst ever due to the shotgun situation and its driving more of my friends away from pvp and the game in general.

The problems are the maps and the movement capabilities of our Guardians. It becomes pretty easy to close the short gaps on these maps.

I think shotguns are fine, it's the maps and play style of everyone. The maps have like a million entrances and exits they are like giant mazes. I mean for it to be competitive there needs to be less complexity. These just promote randomness. Half the time people are just coming from all sides. And more symmetry, what ever happened to simple maps with simple things on them that were well balanced? Maybe it isn't totally the maps fault but its for surely the play style of everyone. Just run around like a chicken with your head cut off flipping spawns everywhere. It's essentially free for all on any game type pretty much. Run til you see someone, get one kill, die, re spawn and repeat. Over and over. Gameplay this hectic and fast on these maps won't ever be fair and competitive, it's just too fast there's no thought or strategy put into it by most players.

2 RepliesShotguns have very weak range compared to other titles. Snipers got hit so now it's going to be a shotty meta unless it's trials. Ppl need to grow up and quit complaining.
-
I think the crucible is in a good spot overall I use both shot guns and snipers Of course i could nit pick but overall feels good
-
Shotguns get nerfed and a few people complain. Snipers get flinch added and all the crutch reliant camp-hards start crying.
-
2 RepliesTL,DR: I got killed by a shotgun. And now I will leave just like I did 1 year ago
-
I LOVE the new crucible
-
Sounds like you could use a chaperone.
-
It's still better than GD sniper camp fest. TTK should've been called The Tent King.

Read wall of text* Summary, it's time to adapt

6 RepliesLol you're saying shoulder charge is a problem and asking to nerf it's biggest enemy at the same time. Ever seen the range on a shotgun with buckshot hitting a target at 30m let alone 5m now before you say it's just game not based on real life why is it that quick scoping snipers are a thing but shotguns killing at a respectable range is not. Basically snipers have had the full Hollywood treatment and shotguns got the rainbow treatment. In short get over it and stop coughing up immature irrational nerffing temper tantrums on the forums.
-
Shotguns have been nerfed over 8 times... stop crying and enjoy the fast paced gameplay for once
-
1 ReplyI'm getting killed by things. Get rid of it.
-
4 RepliesBeing one-shot with shotguns 10 feet away is bullshit. High impact snipers are a 2 shot kill unless hit in the head. Shotguns should be the same. Problem solved.
-
11 Repliesi don't want to use a shotgun to counter shotgun i enjoy sniping not camping or hardscoping lanes unless i know theres enemy running through then i move along with my primary then get shotgun to the face. they have ammo fair do's but the flinch is too much not even balanced less aim assist im fine with but needs ads speed increase bungo doesn't think it through rushing with shotguns while shooting them with primary the shotgun has no flinch or anything -blam!-ing shotguns although i get it for supremacy flinch from anyone shooting at you, some say adapt or die well couldn't you adapt to snipers
-
6 RepliesAs a heavy pvp player, I completely agree 100%. Crucible is in its worst place ever, and it is almost entirely because of shotguns. The introduction of supremacy even further proves that point. Imagine how much fun supremacy would be if there were NO shotguns, or at least appropriately balanced shotguns. Here is what I think of a player every time I am shotgunned from someone crouching around a corner.... "I feel sorry for you. You clearly do not have the required skill to aim a primary weapon, and thus have to resort to call of duty style camping with an OP shotgun to get any kills at all. I am sure later this match you will nova bomb me by myself because I have you down to 50% health and I am too far away to use your precious little Crutchy McCrutcherson shotgun. I just hope you know you have no skill relative to anyone using their primaries, a fusion rifle, or a sniper, and may God have mercy on your soul". If I could set up my psn messages to spam that to a guardian after they get a shotgun kill against me, I would. In all seriousness, if Bungie doesn't do something meaningful about shotguns, I don't see myself playing destiny for much longer.
-
I don't think shotguns are overpowered people that can kill you consistently with them are either having an amazing game or they are high skill players. I do not use a shotgun myself but I know this from people I know that shotgun. There is no need to complain about something that is easy to counter.
-
1 ReplyIdk. If I die from a shotgun, it's because I put myself in a bad position. Maybe next time I won't go blindly chasing someone around a corner knowing that the rest of my team is behind me on the other side of the map. The same positional tactics that a shotgunner uses can just as easily be used against them to avoid it.

*reads thread title & ignores wall o'text, but checks stats ... most kills % catagory .. secondaries. most used secondary.. sniper....... nuff said.. except...... this guy needs to understand he is the scrub
Introducing...the Scrub The derogatory term “scrub” means several different things. One definition is someone (especially a game player) who is not good at something (especially a game). By this definition, we all start out as scrubs, and there is certainly no shame in that. I mean the term differently, though. A scrub is a player who is handicapped by self-imposed rules that the game knows nothing about. A scrub does not play to win. Now, everyone begins as a poor player—it takes time to learn a game to get to a point where you know what you’re doing. There is the mistaken notion, though, that by merely continuing to play or “learn” the game, one can become a top player. In reality, the “scrub” has many more mental obstacles to overcome than anything actually going on during the game. The scrub has lost the game even before it starts. He’s lost the game even before deciding which game to play. His problem? He does not play to win. ..................... A common call of the scrub is to cry that the kind of play in which one tries to win at all costs is “boring” or “not fun.” Who knows what objective the scrub has, but we know his objective is not truly to win. Yours is. Your objective is good and right and true, and let no one tell you otherwise. You have the power to dispatch those who would tell you otherwise, anyway. Simply beat them. Let’s consider two groups of players: a group of good players and a group of scrubs. The scrubs will play “for fun” and not explore the extremities of the game. They won’t find the most effective tactics and abuse them mercilessly. The good players will. The good players will find incredibly overpowering tactics and patterns. As they play the game more, they’ll be forced to find counters to those tactics. The vast majority of tactics that at first appear unbeatable end up having counters, though they are often quite subtle and difficult to discover ................... The good players are reaching higher and higher levels of play. They found the “cheap stuff” and abused it. They know how to stop the cheap stuff. They know how to stop the other guy from stopping it so they can keep doing it.
http://www.sirlin.net/ptw-book/introducingthe-scrub

I don't exactly agree with the accuracy of your information, but I have to agree that shotguns are being abused far too much right now.

Not many likes here lol.

1 ReplyIm not so sure weapons are the issue anymore. I think it's mostly map design combined with players not moving together objectively. Of course you should not all bunch up and be sitting ducks for grenades, rocket and supers. But with the way the maps are designed, everyone really needs to move together with a purpose and watch each others back. Foolish boneheads need to stop flipping spawns every ten seconds. Cover angles and control territory. Just stay moving and the pace of play will be still be fast enough. Also, I found out last night that Mida and a sidearm poops all over unskilled wannabe shotty warriors. There are still legit skilled shotty warriors that will keep you on your toes and that's the way it should be.
-
11 RepliesI think if they slightly buffed primaries made shotties do much less body damage and more headshot damage it would fix the shotgun problem
-
All you had to do was say "buff fusions and sidearms and it would have been a double win, you won't cry about shotguns and buffs are the best"
-
3 RepliesI just looooove getting on that brand new heavy pike and suddenly getting sniped in the dickhole.

Edited by Benzene21: 10/2/2016 8:11:27 PMI agree about conspiracy theory. Shotguns got nerfed, but then they make conspiracy theory easy to get, a shotgun that STILL has the range issues old shotguns had lol the problem wasn't fixed at all! I do disagree about shotguns in general. They are not hard to counter wth a fusion, because fusions have more range. Most of these players are predictable and always do the same. It's very easy to know what they will do or where they are, especially if you have a radar.
