The Value of Feedback

If you’re reading this, you’re a part of our creative process at Bungie. The players have always been our partners at Bungie. It’s my job to make sure that continues to be true – more than ever before. I see a lot of questions about what happens behind closed doors in our studio. I want to share some information with you about how Feedback is gathered here. Some of you have wondered what happens when great ideas or important issues are posted here on the Feedback forum. When I first started as your Community Manager, I would send targeted feedback to specific developers. For example: When the community was reporting problems with Ogres teleporting, I sent your reports directly to the Raid team. That issue was later fixed in a patch. I'm not taking any credit for that. The community identified the problem, and the Raid team made the fix. I still do this direct messaging whenever it makes sense, but my reports have evolved overtime. I was asked to create a general report about the Destiny community, including the overall sentiment, hot topics of discussion, and requests for changes/additions to the game. The bulk of those insights are sourced right here on this forum. I initially sent these reports to the creative leadership. A few months ago, I was asked by Pete (CEO) to expand the audience to include everyone at Bungie. Now, you may be asking "Why don't you give us regular reports of the status of our requests?" It can be complicated to comment on development work until an update or a hot fix is certified and ready to go. Game design is too turbulent to support public promises. Early ideas and plans are like sea turtles hatching on the beach. Many of them will never find their way to the sea. If there is a good idea on the forum, odds are it may have lived and died on one of our whiteboards. Or, it could even be in some stage of development. The best promises we can make about these things come in the form of patch notes – once they’ve made it into the water. There are millions of players that all have various opinions on what Destiny should be. There are also hundreds of developers who have various opinions on what Destiny should be. It's not easy sorting through both sets to come up with final decisions, but we like including your feedback in the process, and appreciate you taking the time to share it with us. If you keep sharing your ideas and opinions with us, I’ll keep working to build that bridge between you and the people who make the things you love. You’re the most important part of what we do, and there are more people listening to what you say now more than ever. Keep it up!

Because quite honestly, the community would love to hear a story/interview from him than a youtuber, twitcher ... just an every day player who happens to be 73 yrs old and inspired everyone in his thread. It would be nice to see for a change. Thank you.

        whats bungie doing to make the game more enjoyable? nerf classes and weapons to the point they are useless do nothing about the massive cheating deciding what weapons should be used more since we cant seem to decide for ourselves any more give us costumes and glowing colors to distract us from the real issues show favoritism to PvP while making PvE issues worse make new pointless/useless perks while nerfing any others that are actually good making exotics useless while legendaries out shine them all the above ideas are making this a better game if you know what were doing and using, and especially not doing or using maybe that needs to be addressed in the end all your doing is making other games look like the go to game for enjoyment seems like destiny is just headaches, frustration and disappointments

        • What i think Destiny needs (from a religious player with over 200 days played) THIS WILL BE LONG. PvE- 1. Give Machine Guns an ammo boost. I have done damage by numbers with 200 solid days played and i can say for certain that ALL MG's except Thunderlord do NOT compete with ANY launchers or swords in damage output and need an ammo boost(atleast in reserve) to keep up. i can go into numbers but its an essay worth of text and i urge everyone(especially Bungie)to do some research like i did on it. Field Scout made MG's very viable vs launchers. since its nerf all MG's took such a hit, its rendered them obsolete in the heavy catagory. 2. Make ALL gear infusable! This is something that would solve several problems. One such would be the obsoletion of past raids. no one does VoG or CE anymore because of the gear being useless. Ofcourse if you do this remove the burns from VoG and CE primaries, doing this wouldn't cause raid specific guns to outclass the other hundreds of weapons this game has. 3. Bring back past end-game activities. You already know where im going with this. VoG, CE, Skolas. All end-game activities and many will agree were the most fun anyone ever had playing this game. making them obsolete was a terrible idea for obvious reasons. 4. Bring back the old strikes. I dont get you guys. why do you insist on taking away content!? just keep these things. more variety is almost always a good thing. 5. Bring back those old exotics. ok, i get the gjallarhorn thing, it was just WAY to powerful, you messed up. but dont take all the other guns away because of it! I miss my pocket infinity, thorn and many, many other exotics being usable in PvE. 6. give the Last Word a buff in PvE. its a cool gun. make it viable outside of PvP. Small thing, i know. 7. Sparrow races... For real this time. 8. hard patrol. people been asking for this for a long time! PvP- not much, really. its gotten much better. its almost perfect now, really! 1. Do something about the aim assist on snipers, its not terrible, just tone it down. 2. Finally kill off the Last Word. From the second it hit the crucible in vanilla destiny to this very second has been the go-to, number 1 killing machine in PvP... Besides Suros Regime for the first month that is... Its almost been TWO years! Please, Bungie! 3. Bring back the old, massive maps. Take these suggestions how you want. just my take on all this.

              increase the sublime engram drop rate or sell them for marks grind my ass off to get one and it is not the one i need ships hardly drop fatal vision 45 vanguard packages and nothing comitatus 43 new monarchy packages nothing sidereal rumba,mind bleacher and high and flighty no were to be seen all the rare ships not being sold house judgement remove class items from packages increase drop rate for weapons or let them drop in coe snipers put proper flinching on them and take away the aimbot give us back all year 1 content since we paid for it undo all the nerfs to weapons you killed off AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE PVP CHEATERS STOP PROTECTING THEM

              If you value feedback put back in primary elemental damage, provide a currency to use on all kinetic weapons to transfuse them (irreversible unless another is collected), make all content relevant and and quit toying with obsolescence. These are basic requests. I don't have to touch on matchmaking because, though inadequately in many a mind, it's been remedied. The aforementioned, however, are inescapable, dictatorial, unfriendly-user implementations that have marginalized the enjoyment of this once great game. I and many have requested that polls be presented to the community for issues such as those listed; not polls on which planet the next raid should be, etc. Thats your guys' job and we trust you'll do well...history has proven such. In addition it's worth expressing the parameters in which we should delve ourselves: nobody likes spending their time crafting an idea only for it to become one of the sea turtles mired on the beach. That is not necessarily our fault. It's spawned from the illusion that [i]all feedback[/i] matters when clearly, as history has proven, it doesn't. Expand on this post. It can't hurt.

            • Well, that wish list sure has seen progress.... There are at least 5 things any jr developer could have done in a week. Majority of the list by a small team of 4 jr developers adding in the additions each week. These additions would not affect the normal development. You still haven't added the supposedly in demand facial hair.

            • You may be "building a bridge" between players and the developers Cozmo, but from what I have seen NO ONE from Bungie wants to cross it. I get it.... you want player feedback. Guess what Cozmo.... SO DO WE! For example, on Thursday it was announced that MM changes were "live" in Control and we would receive "further updates". Well, where is this "update"? Latency has been a massive issue with players in PvP and has inundated the forums with posts. Have we seen ANY response from development about it? NO. Instead we get an "update" about MM lobby wait times and "skill based" matching. Guess what, the latency is STILL there and seems to increase with every "update" attempt. Iron Banner was a steaming mess the first 4 days. The players receive a vague acknowledgement of a problem (via Twitter) and there was NO follow up. You see the issue here, right? In order for feedback to be useful there MUST be an element of return communication. You "say" you forward these feedback items "up the chain" but without any sort of return communication the players giving this feedback we are left wondering IF our feedback is even being heard let alone acknowledged.

                latency limits are too high. people with unstable pings and bandwidth should be getting kicked to orbit. regardless of what you tell us about connection priority or the like, trouble is, all it takes is one unstable high ping player and the match will get all kinds of weird. many of us if not all of us have had countless matches that look just like the lag .gifs and vid clips people post. gun play and class development also need work. the fact that year one weapons have a better feel and better base stats than year two is basically backwards from every major video game. it's like reverse progression. between this and pvp match timing being questionable quite a lot it's made year 2 less enjoyable than year one. furthermore half the strikes we grew to love were never updated for year 2. how much time would that have really taken to repopulate them as heroic? other events like SRL which obviously took some man hours to create have been shown....once....all those man hours and all that money for one event? why? you guys also have a habit of going too far with nerfs and also doing too many things at once. one adjustment can change game play and there have been times, the start of year 2 was one, where you did countless changes then spent months trying to get them straight. do one or two adjustments, watch for a week or two, if all is well do one or two more. see how players react to small changes. don't just dump a bunch of changes down on us and cross your fingers.

                • their is a MAJOR bug in the game were the form will not track my sword kills, I am missing 8783 kills from my data base and I want somthing done about this please.

                • Dont know if this is a good place for this but I have to give credit sometimes between all of my ranting. Now i don't know if it was just a coincidence tonight or what but i haven't had that much fun plying pvp in over a year. Every match was different, wait time was low, red bars and lag in general seemed to be at a minimum and i never once stared at the screen in agony as i was shot gunned by the guy on the other side of the wall. Every time i died it was my fault or i was out played. Some games my team was the shoe, sometimes we were the bug but that's what made it so cool. God i hope it wasn't just a coincidence.

                  You want feedback... Stop putting us into matches that are at heavy drops. Stop matching us with players from across the globe. Stop nerfing things that don't make sense. Stop pulling us out of our menu everytime your game changes state. There are so many things that players ask for and provide feedback for in these forums. You say you listen, but you don't communicate that. You are community manager, this post was a nice gesture, but that's all it is until you consistently provide feedback to the players and the community. Bungie is a black hole of information, love your game, hate your business practices, sorry. One more thing, the lag, the f'n lag. I don't care what mode you're playing the lag is terrible. PVP is becoming unplayable.

                • Matchmaking for Nightfall. I am hoping the addition of elemental burns and other modifiers to the heroic strikes is a forerunner for matchmaking included in Nightfalls. Few friends left who play Destiny, LFG out of game is a pain, please give us the option to fail with randoms.

                    One piece of feedback.... please have your guys look into Trials matches that end with the winners scoring 4 or less round victories and DNF's on opposing teams.... ran into what we thought to be cheaters yesterday, then looked up there game history.... so many wins with DNF's on the other team and winning games with less than the max score of 5.... should be a big red flag when you see this consistently.... in my exp not many people or teams quit out in trials, unless you look at these guys history its almost every game.

                  • Allow us to infuse year one armor at least, I busted my a$$ for year one faction gear, would allow raid gear forward too, and prevent another reign of fatebringer and so on

                    • lol i love how gamers complain that they are getting nerf this nerf that content removed this content removed that .lol do you even read your terms when buying content . i pretty sure it says when buying this content you are guaranteed but not limited to this content witch can be removed ,changed ,altered at any time do you aspect. there for if you pay for content knowing that it cant be remove,altered ,changed at any time its your own falt and you have no right to complain . it also reminds me of youtubers that make youtube videos with copywright music and add in the details that little copywright act da da da allows fair use . thinking posting this actuly protects legal issues witch it dont .then they cry when video is removed

                        No one was ever demanding public promises. You guys keep throwing that out as an excuse for why you don't want to tell people anything. The trouble is, if you don't communicate enough with people, they will start to take every little thing you say as a potential promise. For the umpteenth time, I have to point to Digital Extremes as an example for you to learn from. The devs at DE often make lots of claims and promises to their players, though not all come to fruition. They are able to get away with this because they are constantly communicating with their community, telling them what's being worked on, what has changed from its original concept, and what has fallen by the wayside. They even take time to talk about things that people suggest to them on their forums, and how those ideas lead to changes or new ideas. If one promise, or idea, or concept or whatever doesn't come to fruition, no one roasts them over it. And why? Because DE communicates and interacts with players enough that they never fell left out. If one thing or another doesn't happen, players can be certain that they will find out why. The other thing is that DE actually delivers on stuff, and in a timely manor. Not every promise is fulfilled, but players don't have to wait around for 3 months for the ones that are. I implore you, learn from Digital Extremes' example.                           • Great of you to reach out here, on the official forums. My only feedback as a ex-beta-guardian is that the community wish list is the best place so far for what would make Destiny cohesive. Using other games as a template, DCUO did transmog right. These are fairly simple ideas and have shown great success. The shaders in Destiny are not because of their restrictive nature. But game designers know this and have made decisions against it for "spreadsheet" reasons, namely to make perceived value on items to increase playtime to get them. Although at this point I feel that it's wasted feedback as I'm sure all resources are on D2. This game lacks freedom and customization on levels that were established years ago. How did we not have master, fx and music sliders from launch? My NES games have it.
