Holy shit... I watched latenightgamings video on the troubles development of h5 and mcc and it explained a ton. Some employees at 343 told him what happened and the reason for halo 5 launching unfinished as well as the buggy mcc launch. I'm not a 343 fanboy or hater. But this definitely makes me feel better about 343 and the path of halo. Now this isn't 100 percent confirmed but supposedly late night gaming has been told this by 343 employees. So take this with a grain of salt even though it sounds legit imo.
To sum it up, Microsoft wanted cortana to exit the halo series because of their cortana assistant thing so they forced 343 to kill her off. But, when fans outraged they had 343 bring her back. Also, halo 5 was meant to be an open world spin off game, where you do what the trailers of h5 said you were going to do. But the voice actor of chief told 343 he wanted to retire soon so they are planning on killing him off in h6 so they didn't have time for a spinoff, hence turning the game into halo 5. ( if you remember halo 5 was originally called "Halo". ). So they had to rush the game out, as they were around halfway finished the game but had to start all over as the fans would outrage if the game didn't stay true to classic halo mission style. Originally, fire team Osiris was going to be just a one time thing and fire team majestic was supposed to replace chief. But when Spartan ops wasn't received well and they had a new team in their new game, they gave it a chance, which failed. Supposedly, 343 is planning on getting rid of fireteam Osiris and they are bringing a new character along with brutes back in halo 6. That'll be interesting. As for the microtrans actions, those were forced upon 343 by Microsoft as they saw how well it was doing with other games so they thought, "why not halo?" As for mcc, it was SUPPOSED to be halo 2 anniversary alone and they only had one year to do it, but Microsoft wanted a console seller for late 2014 and they thought it would be easy to port all 4 games to Xbox one in 1080p 60fps. So 343 ended up having to dedicate even MORE of their staff away from h5 and to mcc so that they could finish it. Of course, they did finish it but it was a buggy launch. One year isn't a whole lot of time to bring 4 games on one disc to Xbox one, especially with only half your developers working on it. So before you guys go bashing 343 for halo 5s story and lack of content, think about how many rewrites and and the behind the scenes shit going on. Supposedly 343 really loves halo and if you watch their live streams, it seems like they do. They are enthusiastic and they are doing everything they can to bring halo back. They are a very new developer and they have finally matured imo. Halo 4 was a test, halo mcc was meant to be a "we're sorry for halo 4", halo 5 is "we will bring back halo" and halo 6 will be "halo is back"
TLDR: Microsoft made poor decisions that affected the future of halo. 343 didn't plan for halo 5 to be halo 5. It was supposed to be a spinoff game, that's why it was originally just called "halo". Mcc was originally supposed to be just halo 2 anniversary but Microsoft forced them to do all four games in one year.

Well, huh. Explains an awful lot.

Paragraaaaaaaaaaaaaaphhhhhh

The voice actor bit is BS. The VA for MC isn't dictating the development of any video game. The VA for Chief is replaceable.

Like I wrote in another thread, Halo is supposidly Microsofts AAA Flagship title, I cannot see them damaging it more than it is. unless I see a known 343i staff member stating it I won't believe it. Anyone can make up sensational rumours for views.

Oh and so does Microsoft for killing Cortana for their assistant thing... Like what? That's retarded. 343 loves halo but let's face it needs to hire new story writers and go back to halos cheesy scify roots

1 ReplyOpen world... I hate 343 even more now

The MCC was a disaster because it was mismanaged/rushed, not because of a lack of manpower.

2 RepliesEdited by Drunk Coyote: 6/26/2016 8:29:24 AMI also saw that video, feel bad for the devs but what is done is done I guess can only move forward and hope that does not happen again.

12 RepliesOk and destiny had 7 different game mechanics before the final. The story also was scrapped before launched. Your point is?

No wonder Bungie split from Microsoft way back when. No wonder a former Lionhead employee went on a tirade after Microsoft closed their studio down. I don't understand why Microsoft insists on being so heavy-handed. It has never turned out for the better. Two of their best studios last generation are gone. Here's to hoping some sort of alternative method of publishing video games is found.

1 ReplyLol. Microsoft's been -blam!-ing with Halo since 2

I don't see how 1 voice actor leaving, even if it is the main voice actor, could influence the production of a game like that. It's not like chief has a lot of lines, they could just record them all before he retires ahead of schedule. In the extreme case, many characters have had a change of hands on the voice actor front in the past.

You should probably include the links to the videos. (I've already seen them but other people obviously haven't)

Link?

4 RepliesI highly doubt he wanted to retire. It's not like master chief has hundreds of hours of dialogue . :) Even if he did. They could get him in the studio for a couple weeks to do lines & have enough master chief dialogue for the next 5 games. :)

1 ReplyYeah no. That sounds like bullshit.

3 RepliesSeems completely fake. Why would they introduce these characters in outside fiction, Locke even getting his own mini-series, only to write them off after one game. I really doubt Steve Downes has so much sway within 343 that him announcing he'll retire soon would force 343 to completely scrap a project they were working on. 343 have stated themselves that they had the option to make the MCC 4 separate discs or one game, and they chose one game despite the massive problems that showed. People let them off too easily by putting the entire blame on Microsoft. In the end it doesn't matter whether 343 loves Halo or not, the fact remains that it's significantly dropped in popularity. And you can't blame the moving forward of the gaming market, as Halo 4 sold a record amount of games at launch for Halo, the fanbase was there. They simply couldn't keep them.

Whether or not this is true; fans choosing wherher accharacter lives or dies is stupid. I understand it's profits & stuff, but ugh.. That kind of thing annoys me.

I didn't really have a problem with mcc. At launch, I played campaigns until mp got patched. Then they gave us odst. Halo 5, the story was OK, definitely not the trash that was, and still is destiny. I also feel let down and betrayed by Bungie due to the constant "fixes" that fix nothing.

If only game developers could create a game without the interjection of bigger parent companies. Such as Microsoft with 343 or Activision with CoD & Destiny. Then they would be able to create a game solely based off their ideas.
