I was wondering if many people here were playing and interested in deciphering the lore a bit.
Right now my main goal is figure out if dark souls 2 has any real connection especially in geography as from the opening cutscene parts of dranleic are on the way to the current area along the route of pilgrimage, rather than built on top of old anor londo. It seems that 2 is mostly ignored besides the presence of Giants.
Some other questions are what is the profaned flame and why are hollows becoming trees. Some of the gear and look of the pilgrims implies the world was seeded and the back coverings both keep them from growing like the tree hollows and "prevent" seed of themselves. Though with the pilgrim butterflies this was a hopeless cause.
Looking at the geography of the game there also doesn't seem to be a huge difference from dark souls one with transient kingdoms meaning time not location. I've got most of the lore figured out from Reddit but there are a few questions that will really get the last parts to click.
Edit: almost forgot the deep vs the abyss discussion. Personally I think the deep and abyss are synonymous but manus corrupted the deep creating what we know better as the abyss as a now corrupting aspect of the deep
Edit 2: it appears that at least lothric has actually moved or been "raised" so I may be wrong about things shifting more than general continental drift in that world. For example the dragon eyrie is in a desert now, possibly carthas.

2 RepliesI'm so sad about Gwyndolin. He's the ONE deity who stays behind to try and maintain shit, and what does he get? Jfc. My poor wife.

3 RepliesGilligan. That "thief" that sells ladders is dead in the profaned capital. Nameless king is the exiled sun of parry to death Gwyn. Also he murded Dragon Slayer. R.I.P.

1 ReplyIs it me, or does the Soul of Cinder resemble the Chosen Undead? He uses similar move sets and builds, like dex/pyro (the first build I used to beat the DS1), and his armor (I think anyway) looks like elite knight armor deformed by fire. I understand that he is supposed to be an amalgamation of his predecessors, which is why he has player move sets, but that armor though... I noticed roots around Aldrich's coffin(?) in the Cathedral of the Deep. Archdeacon McDonnell has roots around him too (so I read, I haven't looked for myself because I'm in the Farron Keep on ng +), and Pontiff Sullivan sprouts root wings mid battle. Now, roots are associated with the Chaos Flame, which is itself corrupt, so did the Flame corrupt them somehow? And Yhorm as he is the keeper? I think the Cemetary of Ash and Firelink Shrine is behind Lothric Castle. In thought it was Dranglic too because of the giant tree, but going through the Consumed Garden to the Untended Graves, it's geographically on the same spot as the Cemetary of Ash, and it's behind the castle on the fold out map too. Sorry that this post isn't very coherent, just typed as I thought.

3 RepliesI believe the Profaned Flame is the Chaos Flame. But that's just my 1 cent.

19 RepliesWell drang armor is obviously referencing Dark Souls 2. It even said it had ties to one who had linked the fire. Dark souls 3 is a few thousand years after 2 and the armor description supports it. I don't think they took 2 out of story order
