That's right. The reason why I (and many others) have no shame in switching to icebreaker to get ammo is because special ammo not spawning at the start of a match is a mistake on bungie's part. So far, the negatives I've experienced about this change are that in elimination game types, the team that is taken out in round one is immediately put at a disadvantage. It takes about 30 seconds or so for the first box to spawn, and often times the first round of a match will end just before the box spawns, or as it is spawning. This gives the winning team of the first round the chance to grab ammo, while the losing team is left with none and they end up getting easily picked off in the second round, sometimes before even the second round's box can spawn.
This leads to an unbalanced playing field, as some teams can be easily beaten simply because they were eliminated before getting the chance to grab ammo, and this is what also leads to many teams camping near boxes to get the ammo or simply switching to icebreaker to insure ammo in their clip for the second round. My experience in Crimson Doubles felt very unbalanced at first because of this, as I was left many times desperately trying to get sniper ammo to contest the enemy that relentlessly domed me every time because I was forced to try and challenge them with my primary. After switching to icebreaker like every enemy I saw was doing, I quickly saw why people are doing it.
Call me a noob if you'd like, it's irrelevant. After seeing the imbalance of how early rounds play out due to only one team getting special first, it's only obvious that a smart player would seek to even the playing field by setting themselves up with ammo in case they are left unable to grab some first. Anyone not doing so is just fighting an unnecessary uphill battle because "switching to icebreaker for ammo is cheating". So if you see me using Icebreaker in pvp, report me if it makes your butt hurt less. It's not going to stop me or anyone else from avoiding the stress of trying to primary gun battle a team without special ammo ready. At least before the update, everyone started a match on the same level ground and didn't have to worry about grabbing ammo to survive the snipers and shotguns in the next round.
Edit: After spending more of this weekend doing Trials and some more doubles, I think that using NLB and sidearm is a better option to spawn some ammo while still being able to play a sniper play style from round 1. I'm surprised we were trending at one point, and the amount of people so quick to try and hate on me is astounding. To those with open minds and good intentions on this forum, you are awesome. To those who insist on being toxic and salty, I'll see you in the crucible ;)
