The Problem With Nerfing Firebolt

Sunsinger is a grenade subclass. The super is focused around the grenades. And in order to get the deadly firebolts, that everyone complains about, they have to build their subclass around it. While I don't like constantly dying to them, there's not really that much bungie could do, without nerfing their already weak super. Am I the only person who sees this? EDIT: S/O to Kone19ps for the best suggestion, "make viking funeral like melting point" This would give the some potential for good dps, but at the cost of burn time. In PvE this would be a buff as well. So it helps pvp and pve EDIT 2: to clarify the "melting point" would be the duration of touch of flame. Probably not the same dps as melting point. 25%-30%

  • Lol warlock don't need a nerd hunters need a nerf the freaking void class is OP u can shade step too much and your smoke is way OP bc it damages you and it slows you it can do one or the other not both, if u combine smoke with any grenade your dead and it's hard to escape smoke bc I'll get shot bc ur slowed its completely overpowered, bungie won't nerf warlocks bc all there stats are on their supers... Know how many time I see posts about merging sunsigner and stormcaller? Too many plus u can get instant sniped out of those supers we DONT GET ARMOR BOOSTS LIKE A BLADE DANCER let's make that clear so it's not hard to take any warlock out or supers are the only thing that makes us good

      While fully speced firebolt grenades are strong, they are not overpowered. They are not kill buttons like fusion grenades or trip mines. They are not useful for zoning like voidwall and solar grenades. Their vertical range is pitiful which makes them easy to counter on prediction unlike arcbolt and lightning grenades. There is a significant delay before the damage registers so they cannot be effectively used in open confrontations unless you have the drop on an adversary in which case the grenade is pointless anyway. Furthermore, they cannot be panic thrown for a trade since they turn into duds when their sunsinger dies during the damage delay. In other words they are a grenade that is only good for prenading and situationally finishing opponents off. They are much less versatile than grenades like trip mines which can kill upfront, zone, finish off wounded opponents, and trade. In other words, they are grenades that have very specific tactical uses involving weakening opponents for a one two punch which is not overpowered in a game where snipers, shotguns, certain grenades, and fusion rifles are all in one kills anyway. While the ability to coordinate and double nade is a problem, it applies to any wide aoe grenade as well such as the titian lightning grenades. In other words, nerfing an ability useful in a narrow set of situations that requires a dedicated build to be effective is completely unnecessary. Without firebolt grenades, Sunsingers do not have much else to offer as a sub class except self-revives which are situational and certainly not overpowered.

          Please say im not the only one that dislikes firebolts but isnt as butt hurt about them because when the scrubby warlock that self resurects(sorry for spelling), im just guna fist of havoc them through the floor😂😂

          They need to spec into it and give up the greatest grenade ability, which is another grenade. I have died to it plenty of times, but it's not OP.

            • No one says nerf firebolt. It's not even that good by itself. But when it's paired with touch of flame it's good. Paired with touch of flame [i]and[/i] Viking funeral, it's hands down the best grenade in the game

                • gotta give up a second grenade to make the one do a little more damage, THEN you gotta give up a potentially LONGER super, which means LESS GRENADES AGAIN, in order to make the one you get ALMOST lethal. alot of opportunity cost just to make your one 'nade stronger. no, you are NOT the only person that sees this. i just feel like mentioning too: if your complaining about this, and run 3 titans or 3 hunters, or basically dont have a warlock of your own, then you have absolutely no sympathies from anybody, ever.

                  • Sunsingers don't really have anything going for them other than their grenades. I understand why they're powerful, and don't have any issues with it. I do have issues with how players use them, but that's not anything that will change.

                  • Well as for the subclass, as you hinted at, it needs work anyway. So they could do something about at the same time. Though personally I find grenades to lack a certain level of skill requirement. Do something about that and it's nerfed, but only for the bad players.

                    • You are not the only one but this game is full of noobs who can't use cover or run away from loosing fights and we already figured that good players do not fill bungie pockets so they will get nerfed like everything else that is remotely fun or powerful.

                                • I agree with you. It's a grenade subclass. There isn't much else it does besides that burn and self rezz. I'm so over everyone trying to nerf something when they're killed by it relentless. Like stfu already. Change the game to checkers then and we'll be nerfing the speed of a kinged piece. Let's turn it to tennis and we will be nerfing how fast a ball gets hit back. Like omg enough already lol. This community and their damn complaints. Why don't they spend that energy calling out the fact that we were totally overcharged for The Taken King and you guys totally Lost a DLC just to get it. Idiots.

                                  • Just Nerf the range on the grenades and it would be good. And they aren't a grenade subclass. They are a self res subclass. That is literally the only reason anyone uses it. When has anyone said "need grenade warlock". Its always self res. The excuse that it is a grenade subclass is not true in my opinion.

                                    • Make the extra burn damage only work when you're in the super. I agree that Sunsinger is probably the weakest super in the game though. It gets beat by almost every other super including Defender bubble when going head to head in most scenarios. They need to buff it's support abilities to make it more of a support class if anything

                                      • The real issue is the melee. The reach on the warlock melee is and has always been ridiculous, but no Titans get nerfed to hell when they got a range super. -_- this community sucks

                                          • I really think it would be more balanced if Viking funeral just spread the damage over a longer time rather than do extra damage (or maybe just something like 10-15 extra damage). Its frustrating being out of play for 10 seconds after getting caught in one of these grenades. This way, you would stand at least a remote chance of surviving an ensuing rush.
