Ok so before you answer or comment let me tell you, this is not a post about which is better or which one you like more. This is about which one has a darker story meaning which one has more of a evil and cruel story. Stuff like that. This debate started when I try to get my friend to play bloodborne but he refused to play it cause it story was to "dark" then comes 2016 and he is playing fallout. I'm playing it to and once I learn the story more I see it darker than bloodborne and ask him why he loves fallout but refuses to play bloodborne. And that is how this started. So now that we got that out of the way we can begin. I know that not all people played bloodborne being a ps4 exclusive so I'll give a run down of both of the story's in spoilers so you've been warned I will give brief explanations of each but if you want to know Bloodborne story warning spoilers
Bloodborne in a nightmare London village called Yarhar'gul the unseen village. Long ago the villagers came apon the ruins of the Great Ones (The Great Ones where God like beast with lots and lot of wisdom) there they found some of the Great One blood and discovered that it can cure any illness. This started the practice of blood medicine and blood magic and even the worship of blood. For a short while everything was great. Until some of them got sick. When they got sick they used more blood unknowing that was the cause of it. Eventually it started to drive some insane to where they would attack people. But those where the lucky ones. The not so lucky started to mutate into horrible beasts. These beast would tear apart men limb to limb. There was nothing the villagers could do but hide. Then the hunters came. Hunters where people from other world who are whisked away to this nightmare to fight the beast. This was know as the great hunt. That sorta sums up the lore of bloodborne. It sorta a zombie apocalypse if you think about it. There's a lot more but it would take forever to write it down. If you want to know more look up YouTube videos.
Fallouts story Warning Spoilers
set in the future fallout take place in the CommonWealth ( Boston in the future) After a atomic bomb nukes the USA. You manage to make it to Vault 111 seconds before the bomb goes off. The vaults where made by Vault Tec as a way for the population to survive the nuclear apocalypse but actually was experiments use on the population. Here's exactly what vault Tec did https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bv40L5FaMcs So when you get into the vault they tell you to get into a disinfectant chamber but then they are like surprise now your frozen. So then you are frozen for like 150 years but then you are unfrozen. Only to watch you wife get murder in front of you and your son get kidnapped and then you get frozen again. Yeah rough day. Then you wake up and find everyone else in the vault is dead and the world is destroyed. There are Mutated animals and raiders that kill on sight, super mutants that also kill on sight. There is this faction that called the institute that 1 killed you wife and kidnap your son. 2 your son is the boss of the institute. How is that not messed up. Oh also he is like 68 years old. Yeah you where in that refrigerator for a long time. There is so much more like blood borne but I can't wright it all down.
Me personally I think fallout has the darker story. Bloodborne has a pretty dark story and looks darker than fallout at first but once you know fallout it seams very very darker. Anyways vote on the one you think is darker and please vote results if you don't know the story of both. Pls only vote once you know both and comment down below why. Thanks for reading. Ps. I'm dyslexic so my grammar or spelling may be off so pls ignore it. Thanks. Edit 1: ok so it seams like I left a couple of detail out about the story. Sorry about that. But most of you picked bloodborne. Yeah I might have changed my mind about that. I guess a new question can be whether or not bloodborne is to dark for my friend to play cause he played fallout or was he right in that assumption.

  • Both great games that I can heavily invest in the story with. Fallout can be pretty dark with all the vault-tec stuff and even just the horrible things that raiders do to kidnapped settlers. But Bloodborne is just...Bloodborne. Immaculate conception, twisted babies, blood magic, beasts from other worlds, crazy teachers and scientists. You can't beat that. And it's like EVERYONE is out to get you. Even the "good" NPCs are twisted.

  • Bloodborne hands down. You don't technically win in that game. Every ending leaves things even more messed up for you and the world

    • Are you not going to mention how everyone in the school or Mensis dies or how literally all the NPCs end up going crazy or dying anyway in Bloodborne? There are no happy endings there.

        • Bloodborne is the much darker tale of the two. Not only does it have the elements of common horror, such as gore, werewolves, and rabid villagers, it adds on top of that a feeling of dread and going mad. It was the first game in a long time that made me put down the controller because of the intensity the game had, throwing one horror after another at me. And that wasn't even halfway through the game. Plus, there's the DLC. A tale of true terror that is woven so very intricately with the threads of fear. A tale of madness and seeking to better the human race, at any cost. A tale of bloodthirst and an insatiable desire for knowledge, bordering on psychopathic. Bloodborne takes the cake, by far.

        • Bloodborne is dark. Especially of you learn about the events that are described in The Old Hunter's. The actions of the first hunters in Fishing Hamlet, the experiments of the Choir, and Ludwig's fall are much darker than whatever happened in Fallout vaults.

Fallout really isn't that dark. Bloodborne, on the other hand, needs max backlight and bloom to barely see the story.

        • Fallout 4's story is pretty weak... The "darkest" part about Fallout as a whole is Vault-Tec's experiments on Vault residents.

            • Bloodbourne is definitely darker. Even the people you're supposed to be helping treat you like shit and laugh at you from behind closed doors. Fallout 4 has enough of a community atmosphere among the various characters to suggest more of a rebuilding theme than a destructive one.

              • If you really dig into the lore of Bloodborne, and not just the surface story (what you described) it gets real dark and frightening, much more so than Fallout.

                  • Some Fallout 4 stories are disturbing! Bloodborne has the nightmare atmosphere, but it's so beautiful, I vote FO4 for sure, a much darker tone on some quests, specially cause it's our world post war.

                    • Fallout is dark now? Fck that game makes me happy! blowing super mutants heads off, listing to cool 1940s Jazz is fun! GTAV is more sinister then that! Bloodbourne is more darker as in more "stylish" Victorian Era London ravaged by monsters is cool but not scary. Does your friend know there just video games? Neither will scare you, if you want a SCARY game, play Alien Isolation, in the middle of the night, with no lights and heaphones on, now THAT i would highly NOT recommend to anyone who gets scared easy and/or has a heart condition.

Bloodborne and Fallout are equally dark but both are different types. Fallout is closer to home in terms of scenario. The nuclear Fallout and the fear of a home invasion and the rebuilding of society. Slow but on its way. With Fallout I often see hope that there is a way. Not to mention I finish the story. I don't play it for a challenge. It's a dark future with lots of challenges but hope all around. Bloodborne is grimdark and cthulu-esque. Every boss is disempowering. Meaning to beat every boss is to overcome impossible odds. When I played bloodborne I beat it. I played it for the challenge, not so much the story. It's a disempowering dark with little hope. *takes notes*
