A footballer can earn more in a week than the prime minister can in a year, so where's the justice in that? No matter what you might think the PM adds value to society while the footballer probably doesn't. Any 'service' employee deserves an honest wage but there is a point which is being missed in most of these posts. It isn't just the NHS that is suffering with poor pay (and I use this generalisation very loosely). All the Services are feeling the pinch and everyone is 'doing more with less'. At least the NHS is ring-fenced and not being culled like the military. I don't often see posts from military personnel complaining about their T&Cs and their situation is significantly more tenuous. They literally risk life and limb, fill in where the other Services fall short (through strike action or when the situation demands), and their pay certainly doesn't reflect some of the life-threatening or arduous situations they find themselves in. It doesn't reflect the hardship their families endure and it certainly doesn't recompense for even a single moment's overtime (above the notional 38 he week). They're not filling FB and every other medium with complaints about their ill-treatment. Sometimes I just wish people would accept these austerity measures and be thankful they have a job. There are literally thousands of Soldiers, Sailors and Air Force men and women who don't and (for some) the skills they have learnt don't lend themselves to finding appropriate remuneration in their second careers no matter how fantastic their leadership skills or the sacrifices they have made for society.... I, for one, think nurses and all other medical staff provide a fantastic service and I have the deepest respect for their profession and work ethic but I think people have lost sight and context of their plight - it isn't just about the money. I spent enough years in the military knowing that some of our junior soldiers with families actually qualify for supplementary benefits because their income is so meagre. I find this thread so frustrating and self-serving.
