If the government doesn't want to support it. It's really their choice since the only difference binding yourself with another person for life and getting married is the legal contract that gives you government benefits. Also that's not what the separation of church and state is. It's to keep government out of religious affairs, not the other way around. Granted the government is based in law, but it's obvious that a lot of laws are influenced by religious beliefs because overall they reflect societal norms and religion was a lot more socially common than today.

Homosexuality offers no benefits to our species in terms of progress... In fact, it prohibits the development of our society, culture, and adaptation. To upkeep such things, you need steady birth rates for every family. To say a gay couple opts out is stupid. Someone else has to pick up the slack of that couple that was prevented. Sexual intercourse (according to evolution) was needed to repopulate the human race, and all species require reproduction to survive and live on, and mutating DNA to create a better animal. Never has it been one seeking a mating partner. Either way, it's still not natural and conflicts with the animal's natural instinct to pass on its genes. Evolutionary or morally, homosexuality is just straight up wrong. Marriage is even more so on a societal level in terms of validity. Natural marriage has always been between a man and a woman throughout the ages, and it has always been honored. It insults and degrades traditional marriages that were done the correct way, and should offend everyone. Homo marriage made my parents marriage look like a joke Homo marriage made my friends' marriage look like a joke, and any hopes of me getting married now looks like a joke. This was the original intent of the movement , and can be seen in European societies. I'm not really sorry if I offended anyone... how about the obvious answer. Federal government does not have the right to determine what marriage is, therefore they cannot force it to be legal to marry any two genders. The legal marriage, however, can still be achieved through state government, which is determined by the people. So legalizing gay marriage is a populous issue not a legal issue. Religion, i agree. Keep those hard-core christians out of office, and the poll booths. Natural. The actual nature of homosexuality is, unfortunately, a reality. The nature of gay isnt being disputed (hopefully the intelligent people are arguing this) but the idea of genders is to have a male and female be attracted for the purpose of reproduction, not to have two identical gender beings attract. The unnatural part of this is that gay people break one of the most primitive purposes for all organisms, and that is to reproduce. So technically speaking this is "natural", but by no means is this ok for a species that wants to survive longer than a generation.
