I just received the most shit present ever

I'm not trying to be a douchebag or anything but here's my story. I'm an atheist and my grandparents can't accept it even though I'm 18 and it's my choice. So this Christmas I head over to my grandmas house and she says "Open your gift, I'm sure you'll love it" and guess what it is?
A -blam!-ING BIBLE
Yes she decides to spend 50 dollars on something she knows I won't touch in my entire life. I appreciate that she at least thinks of me but still it's demeaning that she's trying to convert me whenever she can. Yes I know that I'm an atheist and I celebrate Christmas but I don't celebrate it for the birth of "Christ" but I only celebrate it for time with family. Also, I'm selling the bible and buying another gift for my father with my money since he actually respects my decision.

  • Every atheist should read the bible at least once. There is no logic in disbelieving something you do not even understand. - A fellow atheist. * sips hot chocolate *

      • Read it, then you can use it in your arguments with other Christians and Catholics. You be amazed how many atheist know more about religion than the ones who worship it

Here is the thing about presents, intentions are good. Accept it with a smile, even if they hand you a platter of poo. What you do with it afterwards is up to you. Ask my son who got another copy of the taken king from his grandmother since she thought it is different than the one he has (cover is different and dlc is a foreign concept for her). He took it and thanked her with a smile. She is a happy 80 year old thinking she kept up with the grandkids, and it is good to stay that way. I got a sweater, and I live in the tropics. I wore it today...

        • What's up with you? Bibles are great! I'm an atheist, and I love quoting the Bible to door knocking God squads, just to confront them with their own madness. Do a search on WTF bible verses.

              • I'm glad I wasn't raised much in religious family. Yes, my dad and mom both believe in God and have their own religion but they never pushed their beliefs on me. I think of myself more spiritual than religious.

                • I am going to echo a lot of what others have said in this thread- You are acting like a complete d-bag. Really, you are. I do have some reasons for saying this: -It's a gift. I have received gifts I didn't like in my life. I smile, and act grateful. And sometimes, I even find a use for the gift. The point is, even if you don't like the gift, you still should accept it graciously. -Your grandma is just trying to take care of you. Think about it this way: You have a very stubborn friend. This friend is under the delusion that vaccines cause autism. You try, at every opportunity, to get him to change his mind, and vaccinate his child. He refuses and tells you to accept his life choices, and leave him alone. Do you: A) Ignore him, and do your best to convince him, in hopes of possibly saving the life of his child? Or B) Respect his wishes, knowing that his child may very well catch a fatal or crippling disease? I personally would choose A). The life of his child is paramount, and as his friend, I have a duty to help preserve that life. In the mind of your grandmother, the condition of your soul is paramount. As a relative, she has a duty to help you. She simply is attempting to fulfill that duty. If you disagree with her, just smile, move on, and be nice to her. Lets be honest, you probably don't see her that much. Even if you do see her on a regular basis, that doesn't excuse your crappy behavior and treatment of your family. -Just because you don't agree with a piece of literature doesn't mean you should ignore it. I, for example, am a Catholic. I believe in God. If someone was to buy me The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins, I wouldn't just throw it away and tell my buddy to stick it where the sun don't shine. I would keep it, and maybe even read it to examine the argument. If you are actually secure in your beliefs, than reading opposing arguments won't scare you, or cause you to act out. It is the mark of the close minded to dismiss any argument against them without cause, and to simply throw away a piece of literature just because you don't agree with it. TL; DR Your grandmother gave you a gift. Your behavior was extremely inappropriate for the reasons listed above. You might want to examine your behavior for next time.
