3 RepliesEdited by UpstateAlmond56: 11/26/2015 10:17:27 PMYes. I don't feel like arguing, shoving religion down people's throats won't solve anything. BUT if people weren't set on their own opinions the world would be a happier place... just a thought
and yes I know that if you are atheist you can be strongly set on your opinions
Religions and views have never been the problem. It is the mind of the individual, the hubris of the man/woman who sees it as a means to something more. When you use a persons belief to a means of power, you have endless possibilities. For you have those who believe in YOU and the cause. A utopia can never exist when people have different points of view. Even as gamers, there are disputes and stigmas because of a class you use, what console you play on. I hate, xbox I hate ps I hate warlock/titans/hunters Ive been in parties and people say this, and mean it. Differeny beliefs and ideas, will always spawn an opposing one, and through that more hatred shall arise. If we can become tolerant, and aware, the people are different, and we may not agree but thT is okay, ghsn we may be able to take a step forward. Until then, not gonna happen

I think everyone would be better off letting others believe what they want instead of trying to cram our own ideas into other peoples minds.
-
Honestly, Utopia won't exist regardless.

Ninja pls move this too off topic?

6 RepliesEdited by Toland: 11/27/2015 2:10:01 AMAgnostic. In my opinion, and I know I'll get hate for this, religion was created to form answers to questions and things we didn't understand. Now, in modern society, we understand many of these aspects and thus have little reason to practice religion. I am not saying religion has no place, I am simply saying it needs to be limited to a simple belief, and science needs to be the accepted fact. Also, religion and religion based conflicts have killed more people than every war combined.

2 RepliesEdited by SolarCerberuS: 11/27/2015 3:08:13 AMI am not religious however I don't like to be lumped in the 'Atheist' group they are in direct opposition to others religion/s me for one I don't care what others believe in each to their own live and let live. I DO have a problem with religious extremism on all sides and fronts and those hiding behind religion to do evil things. Problem is though remove all religion and the human race would just find something else to disagree on/wage war over so no your utopia would never exist.
-
8 RepliesNo. And religion is not the reason. Humans can and always will kill, ra!pe. Steal, physically and emotionally abuse each other period. (I think its pretty ignorant and arrogant that you think being a "Atheist." Makes you blameless and that it changes that you're human.) (Atheists are just as disgusting as the rest of the human race.) (why do atheist people always pretend "religion" is evil but I see more evil in atheists hating anyone who is associated with any kind of religion because they can't stand people believing something else. Or the fact that main cause of conflict is power, simple psychotic rage. and moral cause-(like protecting family or country, or feeding the poor, or defending your own life.)but what is moral, and what defines it. What's your compass? Atheists themselves are like the very people they hate, they always bring atheism in conversation, they try to find reasons that "prove" they right over everyone else, they fight for the same reason, and they are so fixated on it, that it might as well be their religion. And if you believe something else your stupid and they hate you. (Atheists hate different believes more than religion, Imo.)

I personally don't think an up topic could exist. Human nature is too varied for it to succeed. Now as far as religion goes, people can be dicks with or without religion. One exception though is that, religion, on a small group of people with similar mentality could live in harmony, but I could never be perfect as an utopia.
-
Unfortunately no. It would be be one less thing to worry about but we will always be fighting.

4 RepliesEdited by Achro: 11/26/2015 7:58:43 PMUtopia is a delusion. With or without Religion. One man's utopia is another man's dystopia. You can't get ten people in a room to agree on something as simple as what they'll have for lunch. There's no way you will ever get 7b+ people to all agree on something as personal and complicated as how everyone should live their lives. Not without draconian totalitarianism and mass oppression.
-
There is no peace until there is total destruction.
-
Atheist. And no a utopia wouldn't exist without religion, humanity is still by all accounts a self destructive species. As long as differences exist, so would conflict.

If not religion something else would seperate us whether or be race or something else

1 ReplyDefinitely not a religious person but thinking the lack of religion would produce a utopian society is ridiculous. I would try to go in depth but I'm pretty sure everything I would say would be beyond your limited mental capacity.
-
1 ReplyI'm just gonna say, some problems in the world would be removed. However, more would come to replace those issues. By just being as bad, if not worse. The radicalism is the only thing that needs to be controlled. People take their beliefs and go WAY too far in a lot of cases. IMO, religion and politics are two major problems in the world. Mainly because of how they're being handled.

Edited by Brick: 11/27/2015 1:49:51 AMAbsolutely not. Some people are inherently evil. Hateful religious ideology only intensifies the hate within these people. Not all of them are like this of course.. Some are swayed by the promises of eternal life and anything they want, but some do hateful things because they genuinely enjoy it. That kind of person would exist regardless of religion. -an Atheist

3 RepliesThe reason I am agnostic is because I feel like there are more important matters to focus on than something that could or could not exist. Would a utopia exist without religion? No, but it is without a doubt factual that we would be centuries ahead in technological advancement without religion pulling us down.
-
Nah. And I'm a non believer. We'd just wrap our biases and tribalism around some other idea, then continue to f*ck shit up. Religion is just a reflection of our fears and prejudices, neatly wrapped in narcissistic idealism. You can't get rid of that easily.
-
As an agnostic myself, I ask why do you have to be atheist to be free-thinking? Doesn't that whole sentence just cancel itself out?
