I'll do the best I can.. I'm not an expert on it, though. Halo: Reach Non-canon, technically, but it held significance because it was detailing how Reach fell to the Covenant--a theocratic alliance of several alien races that worship a long-dead alien race called Forerunners. Halo: Combat Evolved A lone UNSC--human military--ship made an astonishing discovery while fleeing from the Covenant; a giant ring floating above a planet. They immediately went to land on it, crashing their ship in the process. Among the soldiers crashed was Spartan 117; The Master Chief, and his AI companion Cortana. The two fought the Covenant across the ring, learning it was a major religious artifact to the Covenant, and a super-weapon. They eventually accidentally free a parasitic creature known as The Flood, and this new threat introduces them to 343 Guilty Spark, small orb, called a Monitor, who takes Chief to activate Halo's defenses to combat the Flood. When he's about to Cortana explains that would wipe out all life in the galaxy. They end up blowing up the core of the ship they crashed, escaping on another ship, destroying the Halo, but letting the Flood spread. "As [the Flood] grow they kill, as they kill they grow." -Some guy Halo 2: The destruction of the Halo lead caused an Elite--high ranking race in the Covenant--to go on trial for heresy, for failing to save it. He was declared guilty, but his life was spared. He was deemed the Arbiter, a once proud title, now a label of shame. Meanwhile Chief was congratulated for destroying Halo, but the celebration was short, as a Covenant fleet attacked Earth. Chief rushed into the battle, besting the Covenant for the most part.. Until the leading ship jumped into slipspace, destroying the city. The Arbiter was then sent to kill a real heretic. He was successful, but was told that the Prophets were not telling the full truth of the Halos.. Chief gave chase, eventually finding, and killing, the leader of the invading fleet. I forget specifics, but basically a genocide is ordered on Elites, as they get replaced by Brutes. Chief, and the Arbiter team up, brought together by the Gravemind, leader of the current Flood, to stop the Covenant from activating another Halo ring. Arbiter, Sergeant Johnson, and Miranda Keyes successfully stop the ring mid-charge. Chief chases the final Hierarch of the Covenant back to Earth, leaving Cortana on High Charity, the Covenant capital ship, which is then taken by Flood. Halo 3: ODST Buck was an ODST Halo 3 Chief and Arbiter learn that there is a portal to the Ark--a remote detention hub, and safehouse to the Halo rings--on Earth, that the Covenant is aiming for. The two chase the Covenant there, only to be followed by the entire Flood. They end up killing Truth before he activates the Ark, and decide that the only way to beag the Flood is to detonate the Halo there. This Halo, replacing the destroyed one, was out of range of the other Halos, so only nearby life would die. They save Cortana, who activates it. They go to fly away, but their ship was torn in half, leaving Chief stranded in space. Halo 4 The Covenant splintered into several groups. The Remnant was still against the UNSC, and worshipped a still living Forerunner--Ur Didact--as a god. Chief accidentally releases the Didact from prison, and plans to Compose the entire human race, turning them into "machine" warriors called Prometheans. Chief ends up throwing the Didact into the Composer, and then sets off a nuke on his ship, before many people are Composed. However, Cortana sacrificed herself by entering the Forerunner network, and forming a Hard Light shield around Chief, protecting him from the nuke. Other: Halsey created Spartan program & Cortana The Remnant is lead my Jul' Mdama I think that's more or less all you need.
