Why does everyone think 1000 Yard Stare > Black Spindle?
So I've seen a lot of posts about how 1000 Y.S. is better DPS than B.S. However this is impossible: the black spindle effectively has an 18 round magazine that you don't have to reload. Over the course of firing all your special ammo, BS will get more damage done in a given period, eg the damage phase on Warpriest.
Seems to me the people claiming otherwise are just those that couldn't clear the final room on the BS mission...

Edit 2: I am talking about DPS here, not general utility. BS isn't made for being good in loads of situations, it's made for massive DPS on bosses and big targets
Edit 3: people don't seem to understand: [b][u]I am only talking about DPS[/u][/b]. I don't care that it's legendary/more versatile/whatever, I'm making a point that in terms of pure DPS, the best that TYS can do is come close, and that's if you have a perfect rolled sniper and armour.

I don't actually have the BS but I do have the vendor 1000 yard stare. Im constantly finding myself out damaging war priest and other raid bosses if we wipe. I think this is because of the higher aim assist. I know that aim assist is generally related to Pvp but finding the boss' head feels easier(I'm comparing it to the old black hammer.) Also, you can fire the stare much faster which is important because in the raid there are a lot of very limited times to do damage to bosses. That's just how I feel on it though.

5 RepliesI would rather use 1000 yard stare because it legendary. Black spindle doesn't have an exotic perk that worth it using up the exotic slot

They're both excellent snipers but 1000 yard stare is much better for pvp (although everyone uses stillpiercier) and you can equip touch or sleeper while using it in the raid.

8 RepliesOk with base ammo at 18 rounds. MY 1000-yard will always do more damage. Even if we use the more ammo perks and here is why. You fire and automatically reloads from reserve. My 1000-yard has triple tap. So a round clip becomes 5 rounds. I get a free bullet from precision shots. So at 18 rounds with triple tap that is four free rounds plus 2 for a total of six. But wait, with those six rounds I get two more free rounds. So now my 1000-yard actually gets a total of 26 rounds with out any ammo perks buff. Now I believe that 26 is more than 18. Of course that is my 1000-yard stare. Can't say anything about others. Oh yeah I also forgot to mention. My precision shots don't have to be in a row. So I can shoot two precision, non-precision my third and hit my fourth to activate triple tap to get an extra bullet still. Black Spindle has to hit all their shots for it to reload. So in comparison of the Black Spindle vs my 1000-Yard Stare. I Win.

Well...1k stare has 4 in the mag making it more useful on oryx if you don't have ToM, warpriest I'd say 1k or Eirene, because of that 1 unusual stagger he does that causes me to miss a precision shot. Lol not to mention you can still keep your sword equipped and drop the Knights without having to switch back and forth we all know black spindle is the king of DPS but the fact it takes up an exotic slot makes it not so good. Why do you think black hammer was so awesome? (Legendary) 😁

Because no one know how to aim in crucible so faster fire snipers are better because they can quickly two tap for a kill.

1000 yard with 4 rounds and triple tap is 5 rounds per magazine if you hit all precision shots, with sniper reload gauntlet will help. With 5 rounds(field scout) makes 7 rounds per magazine.

Well, you can't use ToM with spindle but you can use it with 1000yard. Easier to be equipped with weapons ready to go rather than wait for some guy/gal to keep switching weapons around.

Just depends on the situation for me. If it's the sisters and oryx then 1000 yard wins because I'm using touch of malice haha

My Black Spindle is Solar so I can cover all of the burns. I will say though that if you can hit your crits with Black spindle you will out dps just about any other weapon in PVE Edited 😑

4 RepliesLet's see . With weapons of light . My spindle is doing 112k . Now if we multiply that by 18 . Well that's 2,016,000 in one run . Now giving that weapons of light doesn't last that amount of time let's say that I am able to pump 4 shots with weapons of light and 14 without it . 448,000 and then 1,204,000 after . For a total of 1,652,000 per orb round . I would like to see how much does 1000 yard stare , could do . So any guardians that would like to test it out let me know .

Edited by Nodnarb: 10/30/2015 11:52:22 PMOne thing most people don't consider is that when you use the spindle you only use the spindle, and when you use 1000 yard you use your heavy as well. While spindle might beat 1000 yard on paper, it doesn't in game. All it takes is a good reload rotation and refreshing weapons of light.

2 RepliesBecause that assumes you have perfect aim. something easily accomplished for googlyroth. but both warpriest and daughters bob their head a lot when being shot. and it takes up an exotic slot. a general 1000 yard is worse then BS. But if you have a 1000 yard with both triple tap and clown cartridge you can out damage a BS potentially.

7 RepliesI used spindle for warpriests and sisters. I'd prob use it on golgoroth too, but I usually get gaze... My issue is, with the sisters for example, their hands get in the way. As soon as you have to reload, you've ruined your dps. Plus less shots overall.. I can have 23 on my stare. 18 on my spindle
