As many of you know, there wasn't as much content renewed last tuesday to allow bungie to fine tune the release of TTK. No daily missions, bounties seemed more repetitive than usual, and various other things happened which left all of us with no excuse but to try out the crucible and get crushed by the people who have spent the last year honing their skills.
Then, today came and those who have purchased TTK got a swath of new content, new missions, an entire new endgame to dig into and are having a great time. This post is not about those people.
I haven't purchased TTK. Partially due to my discontent with how bungie has released content and partially because I didn't want to be suckered by false promises. I'm giving it some time to see what people think of it, see if the raid is good, see if it's really worth 40$. But I decided to jump on anyways, today, and see what I could do without the expansion. What I found was not much at all.
Daily, Weekly heroic and nightfall missions are all gated off. Now it's not to say that these won't cycle through to older missions, but bungie seems to have set the new game to 'only level 40' mode, so who's to say that next week won't be undying mind with a level 40 requirement slapped on it?
All Vendor gear is now locked, old vendor gear is gone completely and I'd assume unobtainable. The only gear that you can buy is from your vanguard mentor- uncommons with few perks and only some with 170 defense ratings.
The vanguard legacy playlist is a shadow of what the old vanguard strike playlists were, providing paltry rewards and seemingly no legendary gear- compared to what you could do two weeks ago.
All "kill objective" missions while patrolling lead to Taken, who you are unable to kill due to the high level difference. This effectively renders them unbeatable unless you have a fire team member who owns the expansion.
crucible now only lets you select between random 3v3 or 6v6 match types, which is paltry compared, again, to what you could do two weeks ago.
Level select on missions is gone, you can only do the mission on the default difficulty- this devalues content even as there are legacy quests being re implemented to give gear with 2.0
the wandering wolf packs are gone, along with being able to level up queens wrath (at least I haven't found any way besides grinding the story missions endlessly).
Doesn't seem like there's a way to earn legendary marks, so you can't purchase planetary materials. Back to farming Venus for some more spirit bloom, then.
all Eris bounties are gone, and her item selection has been culled (so that's what, half of the dark below?)
on a slightly less objective note, the jump from year one gear to year two gear means that for someone with the expansion, there's very little reason to play VoG, Crota's end or PoE. I spent an hour on /r/fireteams attempting to get a group for anything, and failed.
I'm not asking for Bungie to give free content for those of us not yet willing to drop 40$. Everything I've mentioned here was content that was available only two weeks ago that has been removed from the game. This experience of trawling through the game searching for content has made me much less likely to purchase The Taken King due to the fact that I feel I'm being forced into buying it to regain access to what I previously paid a fair amount of money for. 95$ wasn't enough? I have to pay more to get my vendor gear back? I have to pay more to be able to do weeklies again?
So, I guess as a warning to the rest of you- be grateful for what you've got now, because if you get left behind there's no promise that it won't go away.

1 ReplyFor the sake of argument, lets say Bungie lets you level to 40 and play NF, Dailies, and weeklies. With all the new story missions, dailies will, and do, highlight TTK missions. You can't play it anyways, cause no TTK. The NF does, and will continue to, feature the newest TTK strikes. You can't play it anyways cause no TTK. The strike playlists feature a rotation of the newest strikes. But you can't play it cause no TTK. You can't do the quest lines, as they are TTK. Maybe we'll let you buy gear. But what to pay with? Marks are now earned by doing endgame content, which you can't do, cause no TTK. Crucible has level advantages disabled. So that doesn't make a difference. What do you have left? IB and ToO? That's it. But those are endgame activities, which have traditionally featured players at or close to level cap. And with TTK light level is what matters, which you can't reach cause no TTK. So being successful in that activity is nigh impossible. And who would want to carry you if you were let in at light level 180ish? It would only hurt the experience for those who do have TTK. So what is the point of unlocking these activities for you, essentially a dead weight consumer who does not support an ever evolving game? "But why not have a classic version? Like I used to be able to play before TTK. " Then Bungie is effectively supporting two games. Adding more cost that they are not willing to incur. Who would want to do that? Nobody else does.

Thanks for the warning but I already knew that Bungievision is maximum greed. I just love the pay me or stare at the title screen mentality. I wasn't going to buy ttk at first but was considering until I saw how they treat those who chose not to. I realized that even if I get it, I can be locked out when the next dlc comes out.

16 RepliesEdited by Lonethought: 9/19/2015 1:56:08 AMThis honestly should have been a red light when The Dark Below came out, but a majority of the players who continue to waste money on this game either don't care because their not poor (and care little for expenses) or simply are too blind to see that this chain of half-arsed "expansions" is going to pave the way for the future of gaming for all business to strong arm your choices in the games you want to enjoy. Just stop for moment and think how much it would cost to buy the COMPLETE version of Destiny... seriously... considering this supposed 10 year path of profit gain... ask yourself... would you buy it for the TOTAL price if they actually gave you the numbers? Would ANY game be worth this so-called investment? Any smart person would say no... any smart gamer would know that an investment like Destiny isn't a good one. Not even close.

27 RepliesMy BBB complaint: Stripping Original Content of Sale When the game DESTINY was released in 2014 the players had access to all of the content. The root content of the game by definition is the content that was a part of the game when it was first released. Since the latest DLC, essentially DESTINY 2, the content that was originally available is no longer available. This includes minuscule things like in game purchases to much larger issues such as the ability to play multi-player game modes that were advertised with the original game, game modes such as weekly heroic and nightfall activities that were a major selling point for the original release, advanced difficulty of missions, and access to certain areas of the game. All of these, now restricted, parts of the game that were a part of the original content (not additional content added later) and are now not accessible to customers that purchased the original game without any DLC. In more understandable terms: (you) the customers purchased a car in full up front. This car came fully loaded with GPS, Alloy Wheels, Leather Interior, and halogen headlights. It is a car. A Nice Car. Three months later, the dealer takes away your GPS. Three months after that, the dealer takes away your leather seats. Three months after that the dealer takes away your alloy wheels. Finally, one full year later, you're left with a brand new car that has no wheels, no GPS, no seats, and no headlights. It is a car, but is it the car you paid for? Or is it just the shell of the car you paid for? When you write the dealer to complain, he just replies with "Well you paid for a car. You still have a car. What is the problem?" That example, when switched back to the subject of DESTINY and activision/bungie is similar to what is going on. Now, the original game is not a game at all. It is a shell of the original game that has actually had content removed from it and blocked when a customer does not pay for additional content (keep in mind this game does not require a subscription to play). In fact, when a customer does not pay for the 'new' 'additional' content, the company actually BLOCKS original content. I understand that business is about making money, but the desire to become wealthy should not come at the expense of your company's values. When a customer buys a product, the content of that original product should not be altered based on willingness to purchase additional products. There should not be barriers set up to prevent purchasers from accessing content that is core to the game itself. This includes in-game purchases from special vendors, access to accelerated difficulty levels, and access to various game modes. Resolution to this problem are deep reaching and very extensive. I've listed the desired resolution below: 1) Reinstate Daily, Weekly, and Nightfall Activities for all players to independently include buyers of the original destiny, buyers of the dark below, and buyers of the house of wolves. 2) Reinstate purchasing privileges for all players from all vendors. A core aspect of any game that should not change is the ability to purchase items in game with the provided currency. 3) Reinstate level appropriate difficulty levels for all missions (as was available before the first DLC became mandatory). 4) Cease the practice of locking content that is inherently part of the core game for future drops of DLC. There are more corrections that need to be made to fully resolve this gross violation of the consumer contract between the customer and the seller, but these four points of interest are a good tarting point.

I do not enjoy having my game stripped down just because I did not buy the Taken King. I went to complete a level 4 patrol mission on Earth today only to have my target be ??? 220 light and unable to complete my mission, I was disappointed.

4 RepliesJust think of the poor saps looking through the discount sales rack. I saw one just a week ago for Destiny with the TDB & HoW DLC pack, marked down from $79.99 to $49.99. I feel real sorry for anyone that has purchased any of those, without really knowing what is going to happen.

18 RepliesWell said. Also, someone mentioned that TTK has a total of 105 Quests. Sure, that sounds great, but how much of that is "original" content? Because let's not forget that Bungie said that they were "questifying"much of the game. So how much of these "105 quests" are for shit you've already done before? Voidwalker/Sunsinger quests? Is it really relevant as "new" since +90% of the player base has already maxed those two classes? Same question for Titans and Hunters. The quest itself might be original, but if you've already maxed out the sub-Class, what's the point? So that's six quests knocked off. Original Bounties? "Questified". The new format of them becoming "quests" doesn't mean that they're new. So, after knocking off 3.5 hours of "new" campaign, then grinding through the pittance of new quests, what's left to be exited about? You're back to the same mindless grind as before TTK (because how easily/quickly can we forget what TDB and HoW taught us...), but now the exp and rep rewards are even less than before TTK. The grind got longer and more grind-intensive. Woo Hoo. I'm just biding my time right now. I don't need to really post much more about this game or its failed "expansion". I just have to wait. Two weeks (or less) from the launch day, the "boredom" threads will start sprouting. The threads about how boring it has become, the grind, "nothing to do except for the same mindless, repetitive crap". Then I get to say "I told you so" all over again. When will people learn? If the base game, TDB, and HoW weren't enough to educate people that Bungie is selling this game not because of content, but because they know that human nature addicts people to the Grind. And that's entirely what this game is focused around. Grinding mindlessly through the same shit. So, I'll wait. I'll say "I told you so". Because those threads are coming. It's only a matter of time before the shine erodes off of the turd, and the very boring, mindless nature of this game will be revealed once more.

27 RepliesBeen saying these exact things since they first announced on a weekly update that they locked out the Nightfall. All I get is the following: "You're too cheap." "Just buy it and play." "You're wanting content for free." "Read the EULA. Bungie can change whatever they want without notice and you have to just deal with it" "What do you expect, this is an MMO where you have to pay for expansions to keep having access to features." I've battled people constantly on all these points and the simple fact remains that Bungievision just continues to spit in the face of all their loyal customers.

14 RepliesReally, really getting sick of this shit. Not only are they NOT expanding the game when they release expansions, they're making it smaller. What the -blam!- is wrong with them? What the -blam!- is wrong with people who are willing to pay to get -blam!-ed over every few months? How is it that so many people are ok with this? It's just absolutely mindblowing.

Edited by Kardain: 9/19/2015 10:02:44 AM
all Eris bounties are gone, and her item selection has been culled (so that's what, half of the dark below?)
Pre-TTK in the image. Culled as in how? No more cores? That's because Murmur/Husk no longer require them. Murmur is also a level 16 in y2 with option to ascend to Y1 max attack... Though that requires legendary marks to do so. Emblems and shaders are now in the collection terminal. As I have previously obtained them, I can't see what the the requirements are to reobtain, if there is even a requirement. Every player, whether or not they have TTK, has access to the terminals. All 6 class items are there. Mat exchange can be done by the Speaker and is far cheaper for his services (Radiant exchange is 50 glimmer per vs however many black wax). This was added well before TTK.

I'm not the biggest fan of crucible but I found it alarming that Bungie or activison decided to take away most of the crucible modes if you didn't buy Taken King. Their business model is disgusting to say the least.
-
1 ReplyAfter all this grand standing, you bought the taken king? Hahaha, hahaha. 🍷 and complain and then you bought it like the rest of us. Whatever, where is the unbump button?
