3 RepliesWhat's with all the questions? Each planet is randomly generated. They will have completely different land masses, coloring, weather/atmosphere, minerals and wildlife. Granted each planet and the creatures on it are mutations of a base set of models (too keep things from being too alien or broken). So we will likely see a lot of similar planets, but they are similar do to the maximum number of variations that are drastically different, not because anything was copied and pasted. From what we've seen so far, we know they are trying to avoid common problems with randomized generation. Such as world's with no land, thousands of tiny islands or weird broken archipelagoes. They are likely trying to make sure that things behave correctly and the system doesn't generate things that are walking around inside out or that planets aren't rendering with holes in them. So in a nutshell, yes, you are going to see planets that are similar. But the creatures and land masses will still be different to some degree. Those planets will also likely not be near each other, but it is possibly to have two nearly identical planets in the same system. That's the nature of random generation. What we see will be the procedural a generation of those initially random seeds. So once they build the Galaxy, it'll always look the same to each player. As far as I understand. Much like the original Starflight game. If you need a primer, go load up a Sim City game or Civ and reroll your starting landmass until you see a few that are similar. The chance is always there. How big are the planets? They said it would take days to walk around them. So they're plenty big. But it seems you can mine them out without having to travel all over the globe. That will attract the attention of the ubiquitous sentinels though and you'll probably get your ass kicked. NMS is definitely a jack of all trades game. It's not going to be the best space combat simulator, it's not going to be an FPS ground game and it's not going to have the detail of a game where everything is hand crafted. That's not the point of it. It is a game with tremendous freedom to do what ever and play how you want in a setting that will respond to your actions in various ways. Clearly there is a goal of reaching the center of the Galaxy, after which they said the game is free roam. So those who are looking to "beat" NMS will have an objective. Those who wish to explore, will be able to do so almost endlessly. We are also unlikely to ever run into another player in real time, so they've had to build AI enemies, friends and trading posts formula to interact with. I'm guessing the only way you'll know that you've found another person's influence is went you jump into system "DeezNutz" and check out planet "booty420shortsxxx." All in all, the game will cater to a certain niche of gamers. I don't think it's going to be a game with 10 million players, but I could be wrong. Burn out will likely come fast for some, as the game appears to have the "everything wrong with open world" and little of the upsides. What plot we get is yet to be seen and I'm guessing the primary addiction will be for those with a self-motivated wanderlust.

Anyone know when this games supposed to come out?
-
yeah and each "planet" is differentiated by a plant having a different hue of red on a leaf gg drones

2 RepliesThis sounds like a game that's main selling point is that it's massive, but ends up with nothing to do. Definitely not picking it up until I hear reviews
-
Randomly generated planets. Don't go too fanboy here
-
1 ReplyMeh it'll be better on pc
-
1 ReplyI wonder if this game has been under development for 600 billion years
-
6 RepliesSo many planets but how many will actually be different or unique? They'll start looking like another planet you e already seen eventually
-
That number is practically irrelevant. Elite:Dangerous has 400 billion systems and they won't all be discovered. NMS looks great but it's a bit overkill. If the gameplay doesn't hold up to the hype then that giant number has no meaning.
-
What is the point to that besides bragging rights that they have the most planets in their game if I have to spend my entire life plus a million more lifetimes to 100% this game I'll pass haha plus besides exploring the planet then leaving to another planet what is the point to the game?
-
Wow!!! Are they going to be as amazing as the planets in spore or kerbal space program?! (Think before you post numbers to justify a console. The Atari jaguar sucked as competition to sega and Nintendo, and entirely ran on an advertising campaign of how many bits it had).
-
After 20 planets or so it's going to get boring and repetitive real quick unless they have a bunch of content for upgrades or whatnot.
-
Edited by BLEEHOW97: 10/11/2015 4:02:52 AMWhich is why this game will suck. Or at least not be as good as people make it out to be.
-
muh eighteen quintillion lmao Sony poines are grasping at straws again
-
This game looks stupid
-
1 ReplyI bet most of the planets in this game will only be a hundred slightly different variations, randomly generated with subtle differences. It's not going to be this infinite universe that we're being led to believe.
-
If only I gave a damn.
-
1 ReplyYeah but how big are they? Are they randomly generated? Or so sparse that each planet may have one special thing about it and looks just like the other planets. I guess I'll have to wait and see.
-
3 RepliesEdited by Its Washable: 8/9/2015 4:14:26 PMOk? Lotta hype for this game but all i see is numbers, thats all anyone brings up. I need to see something more. More depth is something that has yet to be shown. I just need something more if im going to buy this game
-
24 RepliesHoly sh!t Why can't xbox have this game :(((((
-
3 RepliesEdited by Pepporoni: 9/9/2015 12:24:36 PMI think this game will be repetitive. There are too many planets.
-
1 ReplyI'm kind of aggravated because from the past info in Wikipedia, it looks like the game kept getting pushed back. It changed a few times on release date. Now I keep seeing stories about them messing around with Oculus Rift, and I wonder if that's why, or one of the reasons. It's kind of irritating.

4 RepliesI still don't really know jack shit about the game. I mean I get we flying around to different planets and stuff but what's the point or the goal?
