Even Forbes agrees, nerfing Gjallarhorn and Thorn are exactly the wrong move for Bungie, not to mention breaking Black Hammer. Bungie, you just tanked your TTK sales. Good luck in the future Bungie. You're going to need it.

187 RepliesEdited by FoMan123: 7/21/2015 12:37:19 AMPreliminary note: I'm NOT a Bungie employee, just a community member/fan like everyone else here (sometimes people get confused by the "Ninja" tag) Just wanted to quickly point out that Forbes allows bloggers to write whatever they want on their site, as long as it meets a minimal standard and brings in more traffic. Paul Tassi and Dave Thier write a ton about Destiny, but Forbes.com is just the platform for their own personal opinions, not the official viewpoint of the magazine. You can easily tell the difference between official Forbes articles and unofficial blog posts by looking at the tag next to the author's name. If it says "Forbes Staff," it's an actual article written by a Forbes employee. If it says "Contributor," it's essentially a blog post by a Forbes.com user. As a result, it is no more accurate to say "Forbes says that [insert opinion about Destiny]" in response to a "Contributor" article than it is to say "Tumblr says that [insert opinion about Destiny]" in response to a post by a Tumblr user. Please understand: I am not saying anything one way or the other about Dave Thier's opinions in his article. I generally like his writing, and sometimes I agree, sometimes I disagree -- no problems there. I was merely pointing out that it's not accurate to imply in the thread title "here's the official opinion of a highly respected financial magazine about Bungie's game." It tends to create the artificial feeling that one person's opinion is more important than another's. Different viewpoints are always great to see and hear, but I just don't like any implication that one person's viewpoint is "more right" than another's just because of where it's posted. I think the debate/arguments should happen on their own merits. That's all I'm saying :-)

Edited by WhiteMonkey: 7/23/2015 6:11:49 PMThorn needs to be nerfed and , gayjallohorn is understandable, but I do agree that black hammer should not be needed. But the hand cannons and shot gun bullshit on crucible is out of hand

Next news update... Bungie to Forbes, Aren't You Guys A Business News Website? Seriously, I don't know why this pet obsession with Destiny is encouraged over there. I'm not going to browse Forbes for gaming articles...

1 ReplyI generally don't see the problem with the proposals in 2.0. Everyone knows hand cannons are over powered but a minority say they aren't. What they are trying to do is get the time to kill balance right so you actually spend more time on the map rather than on the reload screen which will also improve the players experience. They can't stay the way they are because if you buff other weapon types the time to kill will be the same meaning less time playing the actual crucible match. Don't see why they had to change pve though.
-
i like how we all play into bungies hands soo easily they love doing this every few months just to watch us fight and shake things up.honestly if you don't like the new update be patient it will change again by September or October.remember when vex was king in pvp?people started whining and fighting each other on the forum next thing you know it gets nerfed and a handful of guns get buffed.then suros regime became king of the hill then people started whining and fighting each other on the forum then suros gets nerfed and a handful of guns get buffed.then thorn became boss and people started whining and fighting each other and we all know what happened.seriously guys this is going to be never ending till this game is dead.as soon as the patch is in place there will be another gun dominating the crucible and instead of learning how to counter it,we will come on the forum and cry till bungie nerfs it.so get good with hard light or necro or red death whichever one becomes the go to weapon just remember it wont last

Edited by Envy: 7/23/2015 1:27:33 AMBungie's sales will be just fine. The 2.0 update is needed. I read a Forbes article a while ago and there was a mention of gjallarhorn being a machine gun or something other than a rocket launcher. It might have been something else though. Can't find it anymore :(

do we want a one shot meta? No sadly and i HATE to say it but thorn and ghorn DID need a nerf. So did the last word. Know why they needed a nerf? Bungie MADE them too op.
-
2 RepliesBungie u need to listen to the community and not go so drastic when it comes to nerfing weapons. Thorn just needed a slight damage reduction and a fix to the final round glitch. Ghorn is perfectly fine, Bungie needs to come up with a weapon that is arch or void and is comparable in damage. Instead they make handcannons worse by removing all range and stability as well as reduce the wolf pack rounds to half the output. I've been a player since day one and I'm getting a little frustrated.

Couldn't care less. He's just butt hurt because Bungie will nerf his crutch guns.

Meh author is a thorn user

The y should just ban exotics from crucible. Problem solved.
-
I agree with it. It's a tried and tested (and proven) strategy to not power items down, for exactly the reasons he stated. Exotic guns should feel exotic- when you power down these guns you take away that weapons special feeling. The biggest problem, IMO is the lack of weapons in general. Right now when loading out for Trials, for example, I make sure to pack about a dozen specific guns at most (thorn, TLW, Gally, a legendary HMF and RL, 2 shotguns, one with high RoF one with shot package, Praedyths Revenge, Red Death, Messenger, and a scout rifle) these guns all perform a very specific function for me in various situation and against certain opponents. It's a very simple paper-scissors-rock sort of scenario for me. For serious PvP, I don't really look beyond these guns very often at all, and that's the problem. I want to make really hard decisions about which weapons to bring. But there's not enough variety of perks and within various weapon classes for that to be a reality. I want to have to choose between 100 guns, any of which I feel I can be competitive with. I want the same for armor. For me, when I run Sunsinger there is only one choice for exotic armor and it's VF Vestments. Two grenades every single round is just too good to pass on. It's an instant advantage over anyone not using the same type of mechanic. Some might argue for Light Beyond Nemesis but that assumes I'm going to die for it to be good... and I'm always going to assume that I'm going to be dictating the game, not my opponent. There should be more equipment like the ram out there, for all classes. Give me ridiculous amounts of armor or recovery at the expense of weapon damage or speed. Give me elemental shields, and then Give me kinetic grenade options. The RPG elements are sorely lacking- give the ability to make my character the way I want- let me be a dual-TLW wielding hunter. Let me really feel like a gunslinger. Give my warlock force push, suspending enemies in midair, give me life drain - let me feel like an evil Sith Lord. Give my Titan some real -blam!-ing armor that turns me into a walking fortress- let me be the tank that my Titan looks like, fearless and undaunted by the perils of battle. Give me support classes, give me DPS classes, give me tank classes. Give me more damage types. Make chase exotics like Nechrochasm actually worth something. Do this stuff instead of giving us 100 new ships (which we can not battle with or even pilot). Make this the game it can be- the gun play is SOOOOOO good- the bones of this game are unparalleled in my mind- put some GD meat on these bones. Give us some substance.
-
I really do hope that TTK bombs amidst the strong fall lineup his year (let's be honest, Destiny flourished last year simply because of a lack of multiplayer shooter options on consoles). Unfortunately, gamers are stupid and may end up supporting Bungie's horrid practices. But I can at least hope!

Agreed also with the blizzard guy
-
I agree with this

6 RepliesForbes also asked for nerfing too! They are sucking the donkey off from both ends (that is a saying, correct?)
-
As a day 1 player the patch does not affect my opinion on the game and I will continue to play everyday so don't speak for everyone when you say "your sales are tanking" because you aren't the voice of the players and neither is Forbes.
-
Lol Forbes has something to say about this. Writers are like oh those guys are gonna get it then the next day write a news article.
-
The fact they said the thorn nerf is a bad idea makes me feel like that either the writer users thorn or just doesnt play destiny
-
1 ReplyWe want you to become legend... Just not with those guns.
-
1 ReplyJust a few things I would like to address in this guys post
Thorn becomes overpowered because the lack of either custom games or balanced multiplayer inevitably tilts the tables to players that have spent time in PvE getting powerful guns.
How is this even a logical explanation as to why Thorn is OP or any weapon for that matter I didnt know custom games could prevent weapons from becoming op.
So if the problem was that players spent an inordinate amount of time with a few overpowered guns, the solution is to give us more overpowered guns to choose from
This is not a solution nore is it the only problem with the few guns the issue was a combination of people burning through bosses without really playing the encounter and people abusing the mechanics of the weapon to take shortcuts in the encounters. If they do just as the our firend hear says the the game will feel even smaller and content will be even more scares, even if they do add more this will still be an issue.
Or you can make new enemies and game modes that thwart an exotic gun’s special abilities in interesting ways (read: something besides just having a ton of hitpoints)
This still does not solve the problem with using the gear in the rest of the game. And lastly compare 2 statements in his article
Gjallarhorn becomes a necessity because bosses in Destiny tend to be bullet-spongey slogs,

I remember a GDC talk by Blizzard’s Rob Pardo where he outlined a concept any MMO designer should be familiar with. “Always balance up,” he said, talking about both World of Warcraft and Diablo 2 (this was a while ago). If you find something in your game that feels overpowered, that’s good. Players will enjoy it. The solution is never to remove that feeling of power, but to power up other things in the game to meet it
If the writer believes the first statement is true then why would he want the bosses to be even more difficult. Not only that but if you look at what the write is suggesting then he would pretty much want a rework of the raids and any other endgame encounters, Cool let add more to old content instead of making the new content better.

Forbes is not a good source for vidoe games lol

1 ReplyEdited by Talk2MeToner: 7/21/2015 3:32:29 PMForbes doesn't know anything 1. Upping the Time To Kill for every weapon in Destiny affectively turns it into COD where the first person to see the other wins the engagement. This is bad and thorn almost makes it this way already when at launch the game played closer to Halo and was much more fun that way with armor feeling like armor 2. They base this off of a world of Warcraft expert. A game that is not an FPS and where most weapons are melee weapons. These types of weapons can be buffed up to meet the powerful ones as most enemies are PVE enemies with ridiculous amounts of health (more so than destiny) and even in PvP the weapons won't allow the first person to see the other to win the fight instantly 3. It's Forbes... Do they know much about video games? Do they play? Is consulting a game with magic staffs, swords, and bows intelligent to figure out how guns should be balanced in an FPS?
