4 RepliesIt's a technique used in animal training a lot. At least that's where I first encountered the term. The only difference really between us and your dog is we have the capability of understanding how we're being trained. But just because we can understand it, doesn't make it any less effective. The entire basis of our civilization is built off it. You break the law, you get negative reinforcement, from jail or fines, you work, and at minimum you're rewarded by having food and shelter, and enjoyable activities like destiny. You don't, and you live in a box under a bridge.

Old news. And over complicated way of looking at games with loot drops and dlc content. Developers figured out long ago new content should drop every 4 months or players get bored a long time ago. The amount of money they charge you every four months (if you choose to buy it) is laughable to become upset over with how many hours you get out of it. If this makes you uncomfortable don't play mmos or and mmo like games. They all have progression, rng loot, content updates etc.

2 RepliesThis isn't quite news to me and the video articulates it very well. Even knowing this I'm not swayed in my decision to play it. It's a fun game, and I enjoy the mindless grind. I DO think this is stuff a lot of people ignore and should think about so hats off to you for posting this, and send my regards to the gentleman who made the video. Good job.

10 RepliesThis is nothing new, MMOs are based on this and their replayability is a function of this, it makes grinding less grindy, repetitive actions more rewarding and the overall structure of the game more engaging, especially because of social pressures (i.e. everyone including your friends are doing it). But Destiny is not as bas as other MMO skinner box games, i mean look at Star Wars: The Old Republic

2 RepliesThis is the case for most MMO's. It's not the operant conditioning we're used to..... this isn't about self pride / enjoyment. This is about having something someone else doesn't have. It's about showing off. We all want every exotic..... Why? So we can say we have every exotic. We don't have a need for over half of them. Maybe Bungie is limiting vault space to keep us from falling too far into this condition. But that's the structure of MMOs..... you have to be better than the person next you. RNG just turns the grind from a million quest solution to a pot luck chance. It's typically the same outcome with a different path.
