Is ToO really about skill or who can use thorn the best
Thorn is the most used gun in Trials giving limited gun diversity. Sure you have last word and red death but thorn beats the two guns usage combine. If there was more fun diversity we could see drastic changes in strategy and gameplay in Trials. So is Trials more skill and some thorn or more thorn with less skill ?

It still takes skill to use Thorn and dominate. If you have a good shot with one weapon, you have just as good a shot with the other weapons. Trials is all about teamwork and communication, rather than one on one gunfights.

I prefer the last word, if you use it right it's better than the thorn at closer range, but thorn is very good which is why people often use it, it can get annoying when everyone uses it but any gun can be a great gun if the player has the skill to make it great

1 ReplyEdited by Destiny89: 6/21/2015 12:43:01 PMHaving one of each of the exotic handcannons would be great for Trials! just like having one of each class in the team its very advisable imo to have each person on the team to use a different exotic hancannon so one guy uses TLW, one guy uses hawkmoon and one guy uses thorn to balance out the team. that way the thorn player damage and lower the enemy team while the guy with the TLW runs behind the enemy line to try to rush and spam TLW while the hawkmoon guy runs with the thorn guy and try to finish whoever got hit with the thorn from the first player. this is how my team plays and get flawless :D

My team got crushed by a team using NLB, and some other legendaries. No need to say that they simply out played my team. (Halfway through I started using Thorn, so two of us where using it).

You have to play it smart in trials.If they're running thorn and snipers pull out felwinters and TLW and rush them.Thorn is horrible against TLW.If they're running TLW and Vex and shotguns set up a perimeter and get them stuck in one place.Then kill them from a range.If you kill one or two people on the other team and everyone on your team is alive then rush because it's 3v2 or 3v1.It just takes strategy and skill.

3 RepliesYou have to play conservative against Thorn. If they get the jump on you and tag you with Mark of Devour, back off a bit to Regen. Start the fight fresh and full shield with either Red Death or The Last Word and you should win if you can land headshots.

Even if everyone use the same exact weapons, subclass, and perks the better player is going to win. Use the best weapons and get good with them. I say it is about player skill and the gear you have.

I'd say skill. I recently started watching Trials on Twitch and this guy: ImKraftyy uses No Land Beyond & a Longbow and wrecks kids using Thorn all day. He usually carries subs through and occasionally switches to TLW when his backpack gets full but he's clearly a skilled player and as humble as can be. He even deleted his Thorn because it's such a cheap POS weapon that Bungie does nothing about.

7 RepliesIf it comes down to who uses thorn the best that makes using thorn a "skill" therefore making it coming down to skill. Examples Halo you had the BR, every player who had a high KD used the BR. So it was who used the BR the best making it the skill weapon.

Even without Thorn, skill is only a very small part of trials. Having the right equipment and loadout is huge, followed by getting lucky with matchmaking. Skill is third place, if that. Luck is just as prevalent as skill in trials.
