Etheric Light for Casuals

I like the Weekly Mission.

I like the Repeatable Nightfall

I like both ideas.

So I've been thinking really hard about how Etheric Light could be made accesible to the casual & older crowd without making PoE & ToO obsolete. I came to 2 conclusions. 1. A Weekly Mission/Bounty Once per week players can goto The Speaker & choose between a Vanguard Heroic Mission (PVE) or Crucible Heroic Challenge (PVP). Once chosen, the player will receive a mission (using the very rarely used mission board/section of our inventory) that sends them into a Heroic Mission or better yet, set of Missions. (Much like Exotic Bounties.) PVE: These Missions preferably should be custom made like a few of the Queen's Wrath Bounties. PVP: These should follow the lines of Exotic Bounties. At completion the player should receive 1 Etheric Light from The Speaker. After the weekly reset the player can then repeat the process. 2. Repeatable Nightfall So...this one is simple... The very first time the Nightfall is completed it will work like it currently does at this present point in time. However everyday afterwards it can be repeated once per day. However repeating the Nightfall will NOT offer a chance at Exotic or Legendary equipment/weapons. Instead it will offer a Medium-High chance for Etheric Light, & Strange Coins. Edit: 3rd option This came from a co-worker of mine: We should be able to buy Etheric Light from The Speaker for like 25 or 30 Motesnof Light once a week...and maybe but its probably pushing it...once from Xur per week for 25 or 30 Strange Coins. Obviously I have no vote catagory for it. I personally would rather quest for my light... But I will admit his idea is not bad.

  • No. Casual players don't deserve to be max level if they can not even complete the end game content. Etheric Light is guarenteed. If you can't get it then you just suck too much. Stop being dumb.

      • A casual can get through the 34 arena in less than an hour. They don't need special treatment.

No, casual players need another form of light to increase items to lvl 32 and weapons to 331. Lvl 34 and 365 legendary weapons are not needed by any of the players that do not play ToO or PoE. Its just that simple

        • Casual players don't really need etheric light. Only thing that require level 34 are lvl 34 PoE(kinda) and lvl 35 PoE. Armor cores from 32 PoE also can get people to lvl 34. Essentially etheric light isn't necessary for the casual player.

          • Why not make it that if you get one for the following reasons: -maxing vanguard -maxing crucible -completing either raid on hard mode -xur for 23 strange coins -speaker for 25 motes of light -potent drop from legendary engram

            • What's the 34 PoE like this week? I want to upgrade my warlock. I've done it once on the first weekend. Is it the same rounds with the cabal and the mission where you play the floor is lava?

            • The whole Etheric Light system was a great idea but unfortunately the availability off it being most abundant for PvP players and non match made activities fosters the juvenile toxicity that is rife in many areas of the community. The attitude of "you don't play the game how I play the game so you are wrong" will never go away but saying a large swathe of the player base should be negated is terrible. I'm a casual solo player who hates PvP and likes to grind away on patrol and do bounties. My level cap is basically 32 because I don't have a fire team and don't want to play with LFG randoms. Why can't EL be available to me but also, and rightly so, ridiculously hard to come by. Make it a Speakers exchange material that's is worth a ridiculous amount of shards or motes etc and about 10k glimmer for one. Putting out of reach of a lot of the players will only alienate people who want to play your game but are consistently attempted to be made to feel like a problem by the game devs and a lot of the community.

            • We should be able to buy EL from the Speaker with no limit.

            • I would be on board with a special bounty specifically for etheric light. To keep it scarce, why not an exotic type bounty with multiple steps, rather than a mission style done weekly? Maybe at the first monthly reset, the bounty appears at the special event NPC and hands out the bounty which gives two etheric lights upon completion. This would be the equivalent to grinding out the IB, but tailored for the PvE crowd. Thinking about it, release that bounty and the IB at the same time. This would force a choice in how to achieve your six lights.

            • I appreciate the effort you are putting in to help the game here man, but I'm going to respectfully disagree. If a person cannot earn esthetic light through the difficult missions that are already available I don't think they should have it. I have I think 12 etheric light laying around from the trails alone. It should stay scarce

            • I think it's fine, soon enough you'll have a pile next to exotic engrams that do nothing. Speeding it up, still gonna hit that wall.

            • Casuals, by definition, would not need to be max level. They're 'casual' players. They're least likely to tackle max level challenges.

              • I loved the queens mission that popped up only for that specific bounty. Something challenging like that would be great. Obviously harder of course.
