Thorn Nerf - Inevitable
[b]Why are most people using Thorn in Crucible[/b]?
-It's OP.
[b]Why is there a sizable majority that are anti-Thorn nerfers[/b]?
-They use Thorn and crutch on it.
-They "earned" it, so it deserves to be OP.
[b]Why do people say Thorn can be outgunned by their Suros or other low/medium tier weapon[/b]?
-They lack crucible experience evidenced by low stats.
-They can't use Thorn or any other gun accurately for that matter.
[b]Why is Thorn OP[/b]?
-DoT takes recipient out of battle by inhibiting recovery time.
-Two critical hits are a kill or worse--a kill and assist for the Thorn user's team(for you noobs out there, assists are huge for winning games).
-Engagement time is 0.36 seconds per kill. [i]This time can be lessened[/i] if cover is utilized to weave behind in between shots.
-This low engagement time means less exposure to fire from the enemy team(I.e. Less damage received).
-The DoT can be seen through objects; thus, you know exactly where your weakened opponent is located.
[b]How do you fix Thorn?[/b]
-Give the DoT effect a 20-30 second cool down in PVP only.
-Alternatively, reduce DoT to 1-2 damage per tick(again, affecting only PVP).
-Alternatively, Players damaged by Thorn will be able to see the Thorn user's silhouette through objects while DoT is active.
In short, Thorn has too much going for it.
The Thorn needs to retain its power, but it needs to have greater risk when used. With any of the above changes I suggested, it would still be quite viable, but not yield over usage within the crucible, as we currently observe.
Edit: It appears many of the anti-Thorn nerfers aren't very experienced within the Crucible. Your lack of experience and ignorance only bolster my claims.
Edit 2: If you're k/d is over a 1.5, I'll take your thoughts into consideration. If above 2.5, I'll give your post full attention. I'm simply asking for experienced crucible players to weigh in. I like casuals, but I dislike those who comment, criticize, and yet have horrid stats in the Crucible. Show me respect, and I will do the same for you.

I disagree with nerfing thorn,...don't have thorn or TLW. My only exotic is actually NLB lol, I welcome thorn users against my strangers rifle :)

The only solution that can still keep Thorn OP for SKILLED users is to only activate the DoT upon headshots. Problem SOLVED. The weak shall stop using it, and only the true will bear its power. Now please end the Thorn posts.

How about they make it so you can't DIE from thorn burn but are left very weak? So you are still out of the fight for awhile, but you don't die from an infuriating weapon.

1 ReplyThorn is not overpowered. Why? The last word has a much faster time to kill up close and hawkmoon is better at longer ranges. Thorn is best used for mid range combat. "But it is a two shot kill!" Yes, but that is from the burn itself. By the time the burn kills someone TLW could of killed them much quicker due to its damage multiplier from hip fire. People think thorn is overpowered because when you burn to death from the poison you know that death is inevitable, but in reality, any of the other exotic handcannons, or the red death, would of killed you just as fast. [spoiler]I have a 2.8 KDR in skirmish on my hunter btw[/spoiler]

1 ReplyIt's good. Too good? Maybe, but only in certain situations. Some people complain about one weapon being way too strong, such as thorn or TLW or felwinters. One of the things I enjoy the most about destiny PvP, is that no matter how strong a primary is, it can be countered by its situational weakness. Thorn sucks hard when you are close quarters and there are lots of obstacles, and TLW is awful at range. All it takes to beat them, is out think the person holding the gun. Not cry nerf on the forums. That's part of where I find the fun in playing crucible, even if there are a few dominant weapons.

I think a slight, yet noticeable reduction in rof would fix a lot of problems. A thorn firing half a second more per shot would actually make it a tricky weapon to use. May actually have to think

The Thorn doesn't need to be nerfed. Everything else just needs to be buffed, or rebalanced to some degree. I feel like the only type of balancing it needs is with the burn damage. The recovery time after the burn finishes should be instant. As in, as soon as the burn is done, your shields immodestly start recharging.

Thorn I believe is best countered by stealth, flashbang grenades, fire bolt grenades with Viking funeral and burn, or axion bolt. Thorn loses viability when you force the user away from corners and cover.

Not really sure what my k/d is because I only play when friends are play or there is nothing else to do but... You have very valid points here and I appreciate the thought process behind your post. While I am usually against any sort of nerf threads this one got my attention and believe the developers should take a look at Thorn. On the other hand we all know from past experiences that there is no separation between pvp and pve when it comes to buffs and nerfs and this is the main problem. So thorn taking a hit because of pvp is an inevitable nerf on the pve side also.

Thorn isn't op, there's very few weapons to counter it with. All because constant crying like what you are doing right here is getting everything nerfed and no i don't have it because i hate hand canons.

I remember when Thorn was an average crucible weapon. After an update, it became the weapon everyone used. Why? Because that update made it more powerful/OP.

Thorn is the most earned gun in the game it takes time and effort to get it, the only reason it seems op is because auto rifles which counter it well, got nerfed

1 ReplyI'd agree, id say I have around average-below average skill with hand cannons and still (given the correct map) can pull around a 2kd ratio in most games using thorn... I don't think they should push thorn out of the game but it could use a slight tweak Just by relying on the advantage of the burn gives so that I can recover faster than someone else in a 1v1 fight is a huge advantage, the 2 headshot kills aside

3 RepliesSo having lower stats makes my opinion less valuable ? I use thorn sometimes, I also use other guns they're situational, is it over powered ... In the right hands I'd say yes, but my ability with it would say no. Therefore a fair conclusion is the gun is balanced and will be as good the user who wields it.

Counter it with The Last Word, another Thorn, MIDA, Red Death, Bad JuJu, Hawkmoon, or Vex Mythoclast. This gun is NOT unbeatable. Nor it is op. The DoT can get a bit annoying but the gun is fine. People act like this gun is like the Vex Mythoclast when it first came out

1 ReplyYou know a gun is op when one of the common reasons agains using it is "it deserves to be OP". Thorn needs adjustment simply because you are at a disadvantage when you aren't using it, or when people have to plan against it.

The main problem I have with all these nerf posts is that all guns are available to everyone if they want them enough to go get them. Why nerf a weapon because someone has made the choice to not have it. Now I am below average at pvp. I was getting killed a lot by Thorn. I decided I wanted that gun and went and got it. It took awhile but with patience and perserverence I got it. If you want to call it a crutch weapon, so be it. Everyone looks for the best weapon to maximize their chance for victory.
