It baffles me why people use rocket launchers in the crucible. For what, 2-4 kills? A heavy machine gun will get you way more. For example consider thunderlord with field scout. 60 rounds will get over a dozen kills if you average 5 bullets a kill. If you're perfect you can get 20! Doesn't have to be thunderlord either. Any low rof high impact heavy will get you more kills even without field scout. Plus you won't blow yourself up!
Edit: I'm the thunderlord guy that switches from field scout to stability after I get my ammo (^_-)
Edit: Hearing a lot of arguments saying rockets counter hmgs; obviously but you don't rush dudes with rockets. The strategy I use is to stay back and be cover fire then when the dust clears proceed to win every gunfight. This wasn't a 1v1 what's better post. It's an what will get more kills if you use strategy!
Edit: apparently there's a glitch I was not aware of where if you use a rocket launcher you're indestructible, immune to supers, never miss and each shell will get you a triple kill. Hmg users users become super squishy and dance in the middle of the map waiting to be blown up by a rocket. This needs to be addressed.
Edit: ok seems like people prefer launchers for tactical and ease of use.

Edited by NathanW18: 5/5/2015 12:31:53 AMKinda' have to use one now to counter everybody using rocket launchers. Far rather using a machine gun for this reason, but end up trading to a dude with a rocket launcher. If the other team have a majority of machine guns, I'll use my Jolder's Hammer. That's a rarity, though.

Jolders hammer and against all odds all day long boiii
-
Ease of use and practically guaranteed kills. It's basically risk vs reward, a RL has lower risk but lower potential reward.
-
Two words. Allahu Akbar.
-
It's just satisfying to blow someone up.
-
One hit kill I assume. Idek because I use machine gun
-
I use rockets to counter the other teams heavy simply because the majority of people I play against, I am capable of out-gunning them with my primary/secondary. It just suits my play style better. For example, in iron banner, I'm playing a team of six with 6 jolders/field scout/crowd control/ the works. I scoop heavy immediately, they're waiting for a respawning teammate, I make it from my heavy to theirs and now have a nice multi-kill lined up. Situational of course, but I think stretching out heavy with MGs can actually take away from my points per minute.

I use it to take down drones or uavs

Is for a boost to rocket push back the enemy. Agree most people waste rockets on 1 single target.
-
Because rockets counter HMGs. It's not complicated.
-
I prefer hmg. But tactically rockets are better atleast in control. I don't rush in with my rockets. I'll wait until people group together. Nothing like getting 3+ kills from the other team capping a point. Or in asylum for example you can fire a rocket from 1 heavy spawn at the other rather quickly. Even if I die if I made 3 guys lose thier heavy...it was worth the trade.

1 ReplyBecause when I have my rockets and you have a machine gun I win
-
Jolders hammer. Nuff said.

1 ReplyDon't listen to this guy, he's barely even played PvP. You can use a MG against unskilled players and go on a rampage, but against a team that is actually skilled you'd get a rocket in your face the second you step out with your MG. Against skilled players Proximity rockets > MG
-
I totally get you but I recommend rockets for the novice player it's easier to use especially If they don't have a decent hmg
-
I prefer machine guns. Swarm or Jolder's Hammer. Either is amazing and both of mine have Field Scout. Yeah, I'm a scrub with a crappy k/d but when I manage to get heavy ammo I almost take out 5-6 people before I finally bite it. Sometimes I'll go 10-15 and will STILL have heavy ammo when the next one drops. 1v1 the MG almost always wins, granted if an opponent fires Truth you're toast...but that rarely happens.
-
Sometime you need a good amount of damage for more than two enemy players.
-
2 RepliesVs good teams it's practically a requirement, good teams.

In high level play, MGs are useless. In low level play, MGs are very powerful. Period.

It's funny

13 RepliesDepending on the distance, rockets have the advantage in 1v1. I personally go with coercive measure. What I don't understand is why people take Gjallarhorn into pvp. It's great for raid and strike bosses people, but Truth has a better blast radius, velocity, and tracking. Ignorance.
-
I do when I'm on a losing team. It's hard to be aggressive without ohk weapons. Plus the annoyance of losing your heavy to a rocket is pretty shtty as well and most ppl on a winning team get heavy.
-
Rockets are the easiest weapon to use. Point, shoot, boom. HMGs take a little bit more skill. I'm guessing most people picked up a machine gun and got blasted off the map, so now they use rockets too. IMO going on a 15 kill streak feels much better than roasting 3 guys on flag B. Not to mention its almost heavy time again after your streak. You just have to learn to hang back. I use against all odds and the range on that thing is ridiculous.

Depending on how I feel I'll switch from rockets to machine guns (unless I'm pissed off then it's like take a rocket to the face). But I prefer machine guns because I like to take my ammo, run/hide until I hear a lot of rockets go off then I start shooting. It's quite entertaining to watch a rocket flying pass my head and missing.
