It baffles me why people use rocket launchers in the crucible. For what, 2-4 kills? A heavy machine gun will get you way more. For example consider thunderlord with field scout. 60 rounds will get over a dozen kills if you average 5 bullets a kill. If you're perfect you can get 20! Doesn't have to be thunderlord either. Any low rof high impact heavy will get you more kills even without field scout. Plus you won't blow yourself up!
Edit: I'm the thunderlord guy that switches from field scout to stability after I get my ammo (^_-)
Edit: Hearing a lot of arguments saying rockets counter hmgs; obviously but you don't rush dudes with rockets. The strategy I use is to stay back and be cover fire then when the dust clears proceed to win every gunfight. This wasn't a 1v1 what's better post. It's an what will get more kills if you use strategy!
Edit: apparently there's a glitch I was not aware of where if you use a rocket launcher you're indestructible, immune to supers, never miss and each shell will get you a triple kill. Hmg users users become super squishy and dance in the middle of the map waiting to be blown up by a rocket. This needs to be addressed.
Edit: ok seems like people prefer launchers for tactical and ease of use.

I definitely have better luck with against all odds and thunderlord, then I do with truth, or gally.
-
I like rockets, but for iron banner I switched to thinderlord, and I realized they're complete bullshit, for that high an impact and TTK they shouldn't be nearly that good at long range (this was me killing, not getting killed). I bet that's why I can't pick of heavy from the people I rocketed any more. -blam!-ing machine guns.

Truth, Ghallajhorn>>>

You bring your 60 round thunderlord into skirmish any time you'd like. You're not going to do any better then a trade against good players with proximity rockets. 6v6 sure, you can get away with an MG, but someone's gotta knock the other teams rockets out before you can push anyways.

My Radegast's Fury gets me 5+ kills each one heavy spawns.
-
2 RepliesI do the same thing with my Thunderlord, as soon as I get the heavy I go somewhere safe and switch to stability. Had some awesome kill streaks with Thunderlord this Iron Banner.

"Grabs heavy" "Shoots truth at other heavy box" "Gets triple"
win
I would prefer to use machine gun but everyone else uses rockets. The machine gun usually dies to the rocket
-
Machine Guns get massive kills but you are still in danger from rockets. (not all players waste their rockets) Rockets have a higher chance to get kills and are faster with better long range but offer limited kills. Is everyone supposed to be the same and think like you do? We are all supposed to the same Machine Gun and wear the same gear? "Don't use Bladedancer, Golden Gun is better. Scrubs use Bladedancer!"
-
Mainly because someone with Rockets can easily take out 2-4 (depending on Rocket Launcher used) of the opposing team carrying a heavy weapon. Less deaths for their team, less points for your team.
-
Machine Guns are great. My weapon of preference. The only problem is, you need to survive the rocket-pocalypse to use them.
-
Rockets counter the mgs so 1 person can't wipe your team multiple times by themselves. I use mgs for that reason mostly but I like to use rockets from time to time as a counter.
-
Have you never been victim to Truth's tracking?
-
I am mainly a hmg user but have to admit in can be fun to rocket kill players capping our control point from across the map. In shores of time I usually protect C and use sniper / rockets at players running to C from A. I stay in place until the last moment to protect our players collecting heavy ammo. Get very satisfying kills. lol.
-
Because a lot of people like the instant gratification of a rocket launcher
-
1 ReplyWhen I gally you from across the map and I lol....
-
I mostly use machine guns but it is nice to use a rocket launcher to kill the enemies trying to spray my team down with machine guns.
-
It's nice to use the one and done when you're feeling lazy
-
Because I can shoot it and blink away
-
3 RepliesRun out faster, enemies can't get it
-
They do it to kill the machine gun users. Its a good tactic to have one teammate use tracking rockets to take out the machine guns on the other team so your teammates can get those 10-20 kills
-
4 RepliesHave fun in trials. Rockets are going to rule there.
-
Because proximity and field scout
-
rockets beat everything. my rockets will down your teams heavy, giving my team a huge advantage
-
1 ReplyIt's like comparing blade dancing to FoH or Nova Bomb. In some situations it's better to unload a rocket when they are grouped together. On the other hand, sometimes its nice to have the ability to pick them off one at a time. I guess it depends on the map for me. Anyway, there is something nice about landing a rocket on the majority of the enemy team right after they picked up heavy :P
