Stated several times in Grimoire cards and Dinklebot that Ghosts can spend all of their lives looking for the perfect candidate to be a Guardian. They're not stupid, they won't rez a little girl or an old man, but a battle-hardened soldier(probably). Mars Grimoire states the Ghost went there because Mars attracted the clever, brave, and who want to prove themselves. We were found at the gates of the Cosmodrome, probably had taken on hordes of Fallen. So that matches your 'picked from 6 & augmented'. We were picked from a lifetime of heroic qualities, and gifted SUPERHUMAN powers. Not some bullshit Spartan augmentation. Actual space fricken magic, from a giant ball of light in the sky. Ability to rez, self-rez, blade dance, golden gun, erm Radiance? Hulk smash. The warlock melee alone could probably take out most Spartans lol. Blink to them and punch them into void dust. Easy So we are strong, clever, imbued with superhuman space magic, have an AI with us (which while in story is a dumbass, sorry Dinklebot, but in reality is an AI. Just as good as in halo) and lastly let's not forget about our weapons and armour. Our arsenal is made with magic, just like us. Thorn, Bad Juju, Icebreaker, Ghorn, Red Death. Heart of Praxic Fire, you turn into a sun and throw balls of death at an extraordinarily rate. Sorry Spartans, die to fire

  • Wow that doesnt even hold water? Spartans were selected because they showed feats of bravery and incredible skill without augmentation. Plus they also were selected because they had the right gene code to survive the painful process. Guardians are revived with no -blam!-ing clue of who they are? They have to learn everything on the fly or risking dying AGAIN and risk losing their ghost. Oh and dont ever compare a glorified door opener with a poor personality to cortana. One AI actually does her job, and the other seems to actively try to get you killed.

  • ummm. since when is dinklebot on par with a unsc ship a.i? and if dinklebot ever tried to invade the unsc, they'd be notified as soon as he says "I think they just found out we're coming. But hey, at least I opened the door."

  •
Well, those of you who saw this reply in the #gaming thread know it's coming, so just click down to the next post and continue browsing the arguments:
Rewriting an older post from memory, it was lost in the waves of fanboys attempting to defend Guardians. We can all agree that with only a primary weapon, a SPARTAN II can wreck a guardian. Therefore, the best way to prove that SPARTANs are better than guardians is to prove that any other form of guardian attack (Supers, Heavies, Grenades, Special weapons, and Melees) are useless against a SPARTAN. SPARTANs are lightning fast, and Kelly-087, the fastest, has been clocked running at just under 40 MPH (just under 60 ft per second), without the enhancement of MJOLNIR armor. This, along with their reaction time (15 milliseconds) is critical to the defeat of guardians, especially in Supers, Heavies, and Grenades. Supers- "panic buttons" Nova Bomb and FoH- these supers are practically identical. Both consist of a rapidly traveling projectile erupting into a explosion with a radius of (generously) 20 feet, killing everything inside. Suppose it is 1/2 second (again, generous) between activation and impact. The SPARTAN will notice activation within 30 milliseconds (0.03 seconds) and (for easy math, actual number is 3/4ths of that time) take another 20 milliseconds to react. That gives said Spartan .45 seconds to react. The Spartan will cover about 27 feet before the super hits the ground, plenty to avoid the explosion. Radiance- All the super does is make you more resistant to damage or self revive. If a Spartan kills you once, he can do it again. Golden Gun- Spartans (the weaker SPARTAN IIIs, in fact) have been known to dodge plasma rifle bullets from point blank range. I think a Spartan II can do that from 20 feet out. Arc Blade- In the same instance as mentioned in the Golden Gun, the same Spartan dodged an energy sword swipe and killed the unfortunate wielder with his bare hands. I think any Spartan can dodge an Arc Blade Hunter until the super runs out. WoD- Has no offensive capability, Spartan can just wait outside until the bubble pops. (To avoid the individual issues of Shotgun campers [later issue] and Saint-14 (VISR will fix that)) Heavies- Rockets- Using Gjallahorn and Truth as examples- if these are disproven, all rockets will be. Given that it is a rocket, not a super, we will assume that the Rocket flies from the launcher to the target in 1/4 of a second (250 MS). Assume it takes 50 MS for the SPARTAN to react. The Spartan has time to cover 12 feet before impact of the round. Assume the Truth covers 6 of those feet by tracking. The Truth doesn't have a 6 foot blast radius. Gjallahorn has a weaker tracker, so assume it covers 3 of those feet. The Gjallahorn (and the tracking clusters) will not be able to hit the Spartan, as, by the time the Trackers detonate, the Spartan will already be 20-30 feet away. LMGs- canonically, SPARTAN have been known to walk off major injuries- when falling from 1 mile up from a pelican, one Spartan suffered a torn Achilles' tendon, 3 broken fingers, a (slightly) punctured lung, kidney failures in one kidney, and a herniated disk. These injuries were deemed mild, and the Spartan was sent on a supply run shortly afterwards. My point- if that doesn't stop them, a machine gun certainly won't. Grenades- Not much to say here- what are grenades but miniature, weaker nova bombs? Special weapons- Snipers- with the reaction time of a Spartan, very few snipers can even get a shot off on them. Those that can give away their position. Spartans are deadly marksmen. They have been known to be able to take enemies out at ranges deemed further than any would ever think possible, with accuracy that no one would believe- Linda-058 made a habit of taking out banshees by sniping the pilot in the tiny slit where the hood and body of the craft meet. In one instance, this was done hanging one-handed, upside down, off of a Covenant space station. While Linda is an extreme, any Spartan is a force to be reckoned with, and, even without a sniping weapon of their own, can still use their speed and agility to dodge even he most skilled snipers the guardians have. Once they close the gap, there is no fight, again. Shotguns- the most problematic weapon for a Spartan (because 90% of users sit in a corner with it). However, Spartans can still beat them through dodging around the corner, and forcing the shotgunner to aim to take them out. As the Spartan can move faster than the wielder can, the corner camper would waste all of their rounds, and the Spartan can go in for the kill. Fusion rifles- while powerful, the charge time of a fusion rifle is the fatal flaw in the weapon. With the speed of a Spartan, at most one or 2 shots in each burst would make contact. These shots would do nothing to a Spartan. And once again, the Spartan would be able to close the distance and snap their neck before a second burst could be charged. Melees- as mentioned before, Spartan IIIs have been known to dodge strikes from extremely powerful alien enemies (maybe Elite vs. guardian would be better). A knife, even if it made contract, would do nothing without the sheer power of a Spartan to drive it into the titanium armor (the only canonical reason for the assassinations in Reach and 4). A Titan hits hard, I'm not denying that. A Spartan hits way harder. Warlocks can shoot a blast of air at their foes (what is that supposed to do anyways?). Spartans wouldn't be fazed, and could just hit the "glass cannon" and shatter it. The Ghost (thanks to TheHunter for bringing this up)- they can just revive the guardian. However, the ghost is just a very crushable piece of metal. Once the Spartan crushes the ghost, it cannot revive the guardian anymore. .
• Well if you're going off lore, thorn slowly corrupts the user, red death brings bad luck, ice breaker can randomly explode on the user and only guardians who fought at twilight gap would have a gjallarhorn

  • Anyone could have Gjallarhorn. It was only made from the armor of fallen guardians armors.

  • No the gjallarhorn was designed and personally crafted by feizel crux as a gift to the guardians who fought the battle of twilight gap. It was forged from the armor of the guardians who fell in battle.

  • To be fair all good points. A corrupted guardian however doesn't mean a less effective one in killing. But otherwise yeah, fair.

  • 7 feet tall, 1000 pounds in armor. Literally the ultimate trained soldier, faster, stronger by massive amounts beyond any human. Armor better than the crap I run around with in my Titan. Ever use the weapons in halo ? We were ordinary people who failed and died when dinklebot woke us . Master chief has never died ....

Doesn't impress me. Sorry. I'm not part of this crazy Halo hype. To me he's a marine on steroids. Space magic always wins. Our guns win. Our armour wins. There's nothing in Halo (and my room mate is a Halo fanatic, asked his opinion) that puts it above a Guardian to me. Sorry. You guys remind me of people who played Kotor, then turn into the biggest Revan fanboys. (Sorry, Star Wars reference. Only thing I can claim to be good at :P) Edit- by 'you' I don't mean to attack you directly. More at the OP and his viscous attacks against other posters who disagree with his Halo-obsession

  • Do you even know the physical augmentations that Spartans go through? They can outrun horses, lift up tanks, have a 15 millisecond reaction time, can have an AI neurally linked to them so the AI can instantly come up and communicate a plan of attack, Spartan armor is designed to deflect plasma shots which turns objects into glass, the suits can also administer adrenaline to the Spartan to further their physical abilities, their thought process is way ahead of a human's, and they're cooler ;) Unless you're basing this off of Spartan 4s, then I can't really argue for the Spartans haha

  • Aye that's all pretty impressive. And without guns and armour, I'm sure a Spartan could kill a Guardian in a fist fight. It's just, I'm sorry, our armour and weapons (at least the best of them) are made with dark magic and have powerful effects. I don't think Spartan armour could take on a Gjallarhorn to the face, maybe even Icebreaker. Thorn would melt through armour. Power of void, the sun, arc (whatever that is? Plasma-esque?) Plus I'm sure Dinklebot could at least attempt to interfere with a Spartan's AI. Even that advantage out a bit. Plus, I reckon there are better ghosts than Dinklebot. I think we just lucked out with a crappy one that can't open a locked door without triggering a planet's entire defensive network -.- Sorry, a good argument but I guess I just can't be sold on the Spartans. Guardian fanboi I guess

Guardian fanboi I guess
I'm gonna do another round of trying to prove my point haha. Provided there's a bit of range, Spartans can dodge bullets, now take into account Spartans also shoot while sprinting. So not only are they running faster than humanly possible, but shooting with laser precision. I forget which book, but chief sprints through a tunnel that has covenant turret emplacements on both sides, and grunts and jackals in defensive positions. He headshotted every single one, the marines that were behind him killed only like 2 or 3 of them. For weapons, provided the guardians would be able to keep track of them, shields would buy enough time for the Spartan to charge in and punch the guardian's head off or to gun him down. Thorn I think would bypass shields, but filling actual destiny lore, there's only one thorn. Ghorn, since it lacks aggressive tracking, a spartan would simply jump over, run away and turn a corner too tight for the missle, or maybe even sidestep it at the last possible second. As far as supers go, nova bomb would be dodged, sunsinger would go down like a regular guardian twice, Titan smash I imagine just a spartan punching the Titan mid smash which is possible, but I don't think consistently, dance bubble = defenders grave, gg would be the toughest, if the Spartans able to dodge the first shot, the hunter's dead, if not, bye bye spartan, bladedancer, spartan grabs hunters arm mid swing, skewers hunter with energy sword. Also if Spartans have armor lock (from halo reach can't remember how it works in the books) that literally counters everything so yeah. Ghosts would probably be able to revive their guardians a couple times but then Spartans would catch on and crush the ghosts. And I understand the guardian fanboi status haha, this is me being a spartan fanboi. We're all fanbois of cool characters.
