You can now transfer items to/from vault from this site or the companion app.
Best fix of the patch and it wasn't even announced!
Update for all the questions:
1) Yes it works in real-time during an active game. We tried it in the raid without any trouble. You can transfer or retrieve items and synths.
2) You can't change your active gun while playing. No idea why you'd want to but you can't.
3) Transferring between characters works as long as you first transfer the item to the vault and then to the 2nd character.
4) Transferring materials will produce a dialog asking how many you want to transfer. You can now split groups if needed.
5) For me at least this effectively great increases vault space since I can get rid of duplicates and centralize materials. No need to carry materials on every character. A lot of (extra) exotics are going to die today.

Started the Weekly while I was at home, and spawned only find I had no Heavy Ammo synths. Got on the app, selected my character and went to the vault section in the app. picked up the heavy ammo synths and they showed up in about 5 seconds on my TV screen and in my character's inventory. This is one of the best features you have introduced yet. This will legitimately save me so much time in loading screens that it isn't even funny. Big thanks to the whole development team that was involved with this. They deserve the props for their work. Keep the updates coming, with more amazingly useful stuff like this and the reputation bar.

This is quite badass. Now if I could just have 100 or so weapon slots in my vault for 24 exotics, all raid weapons and any other toys I may want

Hell yes! This is probably equally important to most people as the heavy ammo glitch fix. This is a surprise treat and should get more love and publicity.

I love how if I have a weapon on my Titan and I'm playing with my Hunter I can put the weapon in the vault via app and then retrieve it with my Hunter without having to change characters or going to the tower! the world is a better place now Thank you Team B

Quick question. If you transfer a weapon while you're online, is there a message saying "Name found weapon!" This would be great for trolling.

It wasn't announced and I was blown away when I saw it. Probably the greatest addition in terms of features in the game yet. Absolutely love the update.

Game mechanics wise, this has to be one of the best updates. Not sure why it is app-oriented though. It can just be in game with an option to use the app. Nevertheless, it's a very very useful feat especially because of the nature of this game's need to swap out weapons and items from vault and characters.

This is the best update yet, so many times ive forgotten a weapon etc while in orbit and had to go back to tower, amazing stuff!

Just tried it now and it freaking ROCKS! So simple and sweet to just pass your guns around and watching them pop up on your screen and straight to your inventory! Amazing update :)

Its pretty neat! I just shifted a few things around my three guardians. What was a 10 minute job only took me two minutes. I'm sure I can get that time down even further when I'm used to this :)
