You can now transfer items to/from vault from this site or the companion app.
Best fix of the patch and it wasn't even announced!
Update for all the questions:
1) Yes it works in real-time during an active game. We tried it in the raid without any trouble. You can transfer or retrieve items and synths.
2) You can't change your active gun while playing. No idea why you'd want to but you can't.
3) Transferring between characters works as long as you first transfer the item to the vault and then to the 2nd character.
4) Transferring materials will produce a dialog asking how many you want to transfer. You can now split groups if needed.
5) For me at least this effectively great increases vault space since I can get rid of duplicates and centralize materials. No need to carry materials on every character. A lot of (extra) exotics are going to die today.

You would want to swap between active secondaries because sometimes sniper rifles are what's needed, and other times it's a shotty. It takes to long to wait for the system to load your current loadout if you know you have an up comming battle with a crap ton of Thralls about to charge, but can't swap because your unsure if your going to have enough time, so u just make due with what's current.

3 RepliesDo you have to use a computer to transfer from vault into inventory? Because I can't retrieve guns from the vault and give them to my character from the app it just says "return to the tower to get this"

35 RepliesThis. Just one of the many reasons why iPhones > android. You can move items from the vault to your characters and also take items off characters and put them back in the vault. Awesome. Time saver.

This feature is AWESOME!!! I've been asking for this for awhile now and it sure is nice that they made it happen. Too time consuming to fly to the tower constantly. Good job guys!

I agree. I LOVE the feature, oddly I don't trust it well enough yet to start destroying items. I would rather hang on to that extra IB rather than have none when some odd server disconnect causes an item to vanish. Great job Bungie - thank you sooooo much!

I transferred a Felwinter's Lie to my vault using the mobile app and it showed up as being classified. I logged in to my vault through PC this time, and it was still on my hunter. I have gotten the shotgun back but I still have the classified item listed. Edit: Yep, the 4th Horseman is the one causing trouble.

3 RepliesSo after the update are you guys gonna delete your duplication weapons/armor or do you keep finding more so you don't need to move weapon/armor around by using the App? I was thinking of delete mine so I have more space plus I only play Hunter...but on the other hand its nice to have a character be ready so you don't need to move stuff around.
