I’m just wondering if you guys are tired of hand canons. I am. I get why they are relevant and have stayed so but I’m just sooooooo tired of them. At times they just feel like they are too good. All but the 180s. Are those even decent in PvE? I know there will be people -blam!- this and instantly want to poop on the post but I’m just being real. It’s my opinion and I just want to know if other players are or not. If your not; awesome kool.
So that was the rant and question. My feedback on a fix well; I think we should slide some weapons that haven’t seen some love. How to go about that; well; I have no idea but would be nice to see some different weapons out there and not to mention use. I get it that people will use the most potent weapons. I’m just saying maybe nudge the meta one way for maybe a month then switch it up for another month. Give me a reason to use these dusty weapons I grind for.

10 RepliesEdited by XxSkull FistxX: 4/15/2025 4:52:34 AMYeah, just go look at the pvp meta destiny2 kd. Out of 5 kenetic slots, 4 are hand cannon, and 1 is Redrix (pulse). Top energy, out of 5, 2 hand cannon, 1 pulse, 1 sidearm, and 1 fusion. Hand cannons are easy to use and really forgiving even though players argue otherwise. This has been the consensus with almost all the streamers. When a new strong weapon pops up like a Redrix e eryone jumps on it and tries it, then it immediately gets nerfed, and then everyone goes right back to hand cannons. They beat most scouts and pulse rifles at range and most sidearma and smg's close up. The last word has the fastest ttk in the game, I think. If Bungie made scouts as forgiving as hc's like aiming a foot off to the side of a head and still get the crit, they would be better. Auto rifles and pulse rifles need a little boost, maybe a little bump to body shot damage or higher aim assist. The problem is that anytime they buff another class, they go overboard on one archetype or one single weapon like Redrix, and it ruins it for the entire class.

1 ReplyNot sure how you figure handcannons are too good. Haven't been in a hand cannon meta in years. Until recently with high impact pulses most recent nerf, they were the only architype that required 100 percent accuracy achieve their base time to kill (oh and the 120 buff to be resilience gated for 2 head 1 body, but really should as its the slowest ttk of all weapons). Have been consistently on the longest end for ttks for years. At .87 to 1 second. All pulses and autos beat that, some by pretty considerable margins. Scouts either match their their ttk or beat it. Damage perks have all been nerfed to not alter handcannon ttk without considerable setup and damage stacking (atleast for 140's. 120 and 180 should push ttk with damage perks being that their base ttk is a full second. Which is painfully long in this sandbox) They are also the most punishing for missed shots. Or requiring an extra shot because of overshields/dr or midfight heals. Keep in mind, that they just barely do enough damage to get the 3 tap. So any kind of extra hp completely craters a handcannon ttk. There are only 2 things handcannons excell at. High aim assist and peak shooting. Both of which are pretty easybto counter by just out ttk them with a pulse or auto rifle, and pulling the handcannon from cover. And to a lesser extent they are a bit better for team shooting in high level pvp. Otherwise in a straight up duel almost every other weapon will beat the handcannon. We're very firmly in a pulse rifle meta, and have been for a very long time. If you're losing duels to cannons, it's only 1 of 2 things. You're being out played by a better opponent, or game latency is getting the better of you. Tldr; No. No handcannons are not to strong, if anything they need more range to compete with pulses right now. And should have their damage upped a bit to make PI less of a neccessary pick when going up against overshields.

2 RepliesThere's nothing wrong with Hand Cannons. They are only as effective as the user. The thing that ruins PVP is the never ending buffing, and subsequent nerfing, of other weapons and armours... Redrix/RDMs being a great example.

3 RepliesEdited by Bitter: 4/17/2025 1:11:00 PMHandcannons represent the path of least resistance. Devs have stated multiple times that they are the easiest primaries to use AND to succeed with. They are a hurdle you have to get over to truly be successful, like one of the other guys said (though for different reasons) its up to the player. I can out gun and out peek shoot high level handcannons on PC while im on Xbox using Rufus with gamesense and timing for when their focus on aiming falters or shifts elsewhere, but i also have over 2000 hours in crucible alone. Thinking of it as a hurdle to get over for success means if you get over it then you can prove you're better in a number of ways. My almost 10000 kills on the titan glaive (measurably the worst glaive in the game) could be considered proof. But i dont blame you for it being frustrating, thats just how it is. You can also just get better in at using handcannons than your opponent, but i dont find that to be the most fun way to play. I did not consider the last word in this statement, i dont like it to say the least.

I’m mostly in the minority here because when the meta isn’t hc shotgun I enjoy it. I will get a lot of hate for saying this lol but idc, so my 3 favorite metas to this day were the Prometheus lens laser tag week, gnawing hunger/hard light auto rifle buffs in worthy and arrivals, and my personal favorite peacekeeper void titan with immortal and cloudstrike. Prometheus lens laser tag week was the best because it was literally laser tag since Prometheus was op. I get the hate for the gnawing hunger and hard light turning a hall way into a meat grinder. I love auto rifles more than any other weapon in the game so it was fun for me during that time. I know the peacekeeper void titan with immortal and cloudstrike was the most hated meta ever. But during that time you could actually snipe before the special ammo and sniper flinch nerf. My favorite moment during that meta was when I traded with someone using cloudstrike just like me and we wiped both teams tying the round XD. The smg playstyle forced players to actually engage in close quarters. It was definitely better than this pulse from afar meta and it melted ppl quick enough so they couldn’t flee the second they got dmged (my biggest gripe with PvP is the second you dmg someone they just runaway).

1 ReplyThey're likely a problem on PC. They aren't too dominant on console (unless it's Last Word + RDM).
-
6 RepliesGuess people will always gravitated to the strongest weapons … with their absurd aim assist hand cannons will forever be overpowered
-
I am not tired of hand cannons, but of cheaters using it. Plus, a controller can't win from keyboard and mouse.
-
Honestly HC are fine. Aside from igneous which is a little crazy only due to its stat package. HC are barely competitive and haven’t really been op for a while.
-
I just started using Rose....but before I was using Different Times. But also, my 2ndary choice is why I run these 2 weapons.

I don’t know what game you are playing because all I see is Redrix. Almost every match I get in comp is redrix. The only reprieve has been going in to rumble but the amount of Xim/cronus users is just insane. I can’t believe how many people are using that stuff. What kind of a -blam!- has to cheat in a video game? There is a response in here that says hand cannons are the easiest thing to use, LMFAO! If you are a XIM/Cronus/ PC player then yes it’s easy. For everything else it requires skill to use them well. If you miss a shoot you’re dead but if you hit all THREE head shots on a moving target that’s shooting back you get rewarded with a kill!

4 RepliesWe are in a pulse meta and I still see posts about handcannons.

For me, metas come and go. What grinds my gears is the terrible balancing and matching in general. I know if the game wants me to lose before it’s begun, only have to look at the lobby flying in and then see who is on your team in the intro.

Edited by Synge_X: 4/17/2025 1:38:13 AMI’m normally very critical of the community’s insistence on the overplayed status quo of the HC/Shotgun meta… but to be fair, you almost have to look at hand cannons like the assault rifle(or BR in respective versions and modes) in Halo. It’s the bread and butter, it’s the baseline everything has been designed around since day one. It’s the easiest, most rewarding playstyle and everything from how other weapons are balanced, to how maps flow, are centered around it. The thing that chaps my @$$ is the repeated claim that it’s the playstyle of the most skilled. It’s not, it’s the playstyle that has time and time again, been the most effective for obvious reasons. The Gears of War community said the same thing about the Gnasher Shotgun. They crapped on any change that didn’t cater to the dominance of face tanking repeated shots and getting that crispy 1 tap… After several iterations… the gameplay was deemed mindless… and even the most ardent defenders walked away from the game after they crapped all over it… all while screaming “skill”… Where is Gears on the landscape of MP gaming?

Tired of hand cannons? I don’t know what to tell you in this Meta but hand cannons aren’t dominating it. Between Invis Hunters, Radiant Dance Machines and Redix’s I just don’t see hand cannons being cheap. In fact I have nothing but respect for people using them in this meta.
-
Handcannon gunplay is what makes Bungie. Only other handcannon that comes close to Destiny 2's gunplay is the Wingman from Apex Legends. You might be tired of it, so that probably means you need to take a break.
-
It's unavoidable. They're in a rough spot where turning the knobs in either direction could make them op or useless. They should not have been an archetype.
-
I’m not sick of handcannons, I think they’re one of the most fun weapons to you. But I’m also not sick of pulse rifles, they’re also great. I’m sick of people complaining saying one is broken and one isn’t. In my personal opinion, if I had to say the what PvP weapon in the game it would be Igneous Hammer. But pulse rifles also have lots of strong options.

4 Replies120 hand cannons are totally op rn. 140s i feel like are fine
-
3 RepliesI have never hated HC demons as IF they miss shot they are in trouble and there are lots of ways to play around it. I don’t count last word as HC. It is free aimbot machine on console. That one I truly hate. I dislike much more instawin options like Elsie / Messenger used to be, or BS like pre-nerf high ground, or Redrix / Stay Frosty / Chattering Bone currently. Like those that are incredibly annoying to play against and almost forces you to use hard meta to keep up. Also fusions are free (I’m a Fusion main) and deserve severe nerf.
-
5 RepliesI wouldn't say hand cannons are overpowered, but they are piss easy to use. Anyone who says they take skill to master is insane. Pulses on the other hand...yikes...
-
Hand cannons are fine, it’s the keyboard and mouse that’s annoying.

2 RepliesMeh... I don't really use hand cannons very often, but I also don't find them to be problematic. There seems to be two polarities in opinion right now - "Pulse Rifles are out of hand" & "Hand Cannons are out of hand" But right now, I'm using scouts, and find them to be just as viable as everything else. I use autos sometimes too, and they seem to be alright. Idk, I see a lot of complaints about the meta right now, but I just don't find the complaints to be completely justified. I do see a ton of people using Redrix, but I don't think it's a problem either. I feel like I out-duel it at about a 50% rate with my scouts, as long as I'm dueling from scout range. It's a solid choice, but I feel like there are better choices on some maps. On something like Anomaly, I use my Contingency Plan (Full Bore + Accurized Rounds + Outlaw + Elemental Capacitor), and it doesn't even have the upgrade options of newer weapons, and it still slays. If I'm on Burning Alter, I'll map you with my Guiding Sight (Moving Target + Precision Instrument) Rusted Lands? I'm using my Taraxippos (Lone Wolf + Kill Clip) And I've always got my trusty Anonymous Autumn (Closing Time + Precision Instrument) at my side. I just think that if people ventured out from the so called "meta" more, they'd see that there are a lot of viable choices right now. I even see a lot of people using glaives right now, and having good luck with them.

I wanna use my high impact scouts but currently redrix is just better in every form. Honestly the high impacts need a rework, they are from a long ago time in D2 where placement and slow movement were the thing. Now that speed is the focus, those just don't work out. You'll get a pick here and there, but lemme slap on a redrix with pretty much the same range and faster ttk and thats pretty much a wrap.
-
2 RepliesI have a question for PvP players myself. Would everything be completely perfect for you guys weapon-sandbox wise if ONLY hand cannons and shotguns are viable and everything else in the game is nerfed to the ground? 🤔
-
Edited by The Hermit IX: 4/15/2025 9:19:57 PMI’m just getting used to using them honestly. It’s pretty tuff in 6s with pulse and scout users but I’m learning to play differently. They’re not OP outside of Last Word on Hunters with RDM. I get 120 have big range and are powerful but no I’m just falling in love with several of the HCs I’ve chased.
