If the excuse is...
Bungie wasn't enforcing the ToS/ToU before...
That's not an excuse.
Certainly, don't make a video about it where you brag about how potentially damaging it was.
In ignorance... 20k downloads from their server alone. And they didn't give the exact metric... but they also admitted most of the users they tracked had at least 72 hrs of nonstop farming using their tools.
Do you think the scripts were only available on their server?
So, conservatively probably 4-5X that... 100k + downloads.
And it's still out there.
If you're wondering why nothing is dropping from PH chests? THIS IS WHY!
People like this. And they're smart enough to know the impact on Network stability. It's a P2P framework... hybrid, with a broker.
Every time the script reset, it loaded a new instance... everytime a chest wasn't in the 1st few positions as mapped... it made another request.
So, you had 50-100k people at any given time essentially ddos'ing the servers.
This is why for months, there's been serious server lag... taking sometimes 2-3secs for a vendor to load.
A major demonstrative negative impact on the game and its players.
Because of this, Bungie has to recode the spawn scripts before they increase the drop rates again. They can't throttle forward because people would just start automating... and that would tank network stability once again.
They had to scrap their original plans for an alternative acquisition method, in lieu of these needed changes.
There was supposed to be a different method coming soon (like last week was my information)... now it's probably going to be months.
And they will not increase the drop rates until they're confident that those macros and others like them won't significantly compromise the stability of the game.
Lifetime bans?
They got off easy. There's serious civil liability here in direct violation of ToS/ToU. The dumbest thing they could have done was make a video on it. Doesn't matter if it was by proxy... they can subpoena him, everything he said is admissible... not hearsay.
They aren't an independent body as direct associates and member of that server. It also makes them culpable and liable for damages too.
They're lucky everyone who downloaded those macros from that server didn't get perma-banned.
My best advice for these people... take that video down, replace it with a sincere apology acknowledging the harm they perpetrated via their selfish actions.
Try to reach out to Bungie in-kind.
If not, you deserve everything coming back to you.
P.S. I also hope the creator of the vid, wasn't using an imbedded scalar... it sounds like they implied they were.
For the record, I use a scalar for testing... but it's an independent overlay on top of DVR/VOD's I make specifically for testing. That's how you are supposed to do it...ethically. That's how I measure DPS.
Lazy AF. Of course, an imbedded scalar is more efficient.... but you don't do that ****.

2 RepliesThe bigger issue I have with bungie target banning these macro creators is how Bungie let a streamer abuse a VPN to net limit live on stream and did nothing about it besides say don’t do that. Even regarding macros Bungie has let them into the game since at least shadowkeep, these aren’t new tools. So Bungie had set the precedent that they were fine with macros long ago. So for Bungie to switch up on their beliefs on macros and just ban macro creators instantly is a gross mistake on their part. What Bungie should have done is called them out and told them to stop making macros because they were now against tos and if you continue to make them we will ban you. That’s what should have happened and Leopard should have been given a weeks ban for intentionally net limiting.

5 RepliesLmao this has to be the biggest pile of dog 💩i’ve ever read

Imagine downvoting this.

12 RepliesI still hope, they ban the macro users including the streamers for a week or two

I love all the salty macro users cry more. Is the drop rate suck ya but when something is as strong as the class items I don’t mind being really hard to get what I want give us something to grind for in a grinding game. The people that use macros are the same people that cry there is nothing to chase for in this game. If u don’t like grindy games maybe this game isn’t for u

12 RepliesA relaxed punishment policy got bungie here in the first place. Throw the book at them.
-
7 RepliesTLDR. OP is salty because they play on console and can't do some of the tricks PC players can.

15 RepliesUsing macros is not against ToS if it isnt giving you an unfair advantage against others and if it is not doing something that you couldnt normally do. So using macros in PvP is a banable offense as it gives an unfair advantage. Using a macro to farm is not as anyone can run toward a chest, open it and then reload the area. That is something all players can do and something the original player can do. It is not technically giving them an advantage over others and it isnt technically humanly impossible. While i agree those players are to blame for the decreased drop rates and that they should be punished i disagree about it being against ToS (bungie did clarify this a while ago). I do not think those players should be banned however. I also agree when it comes to the strain it puts on the servers and the issues it causes (they are literally just facts, i cant exactly disagree with facts.)
-
5 RepliesWhy should they be banned?! They use an automation tool so they can get on with more important things in life, healthier than mindlessly staring at a screen for hours. Maybe go gym, go to work, something like that. Macro users don’t violate anything, really. Any normal player can do what a macro can do, how do you think they’re set up in the first place? Using a macro, really, is no different to multitasking. That aside… if Bungie is pushing people to use automation tools, there’s something wrong.

7 RepliesSalty console bozo cry harder, it won't take away the dozens of exotics virtually everyone on PC afk farmed.

2 RepliesGet off your knees and wipe your face off. You are embarrassing yourself.

Yes, let's stroke bungies absolute incompetence and shame those tired of piss poor drop rates. #DrownBungieDrown

1 ReplyHow long do you sit on the forums every day being bungie's mightiest defender? It may be worth your time to find another long-term investment

Edited by Magiscene: 8/19/2024 12:13:12 PMI get why people created a macro for the farm but there is always a risk running software like that. Bungie’s ToS is worded in a way that basically gives bungie the power to decide bans on a case by case basis without needing to clarify what is allowed and what isn’t. That lack of information and bungie banning people with no explanation or clarification on what is allowed and what isn’t is why I avoid stuff like this. Losing my account for a temporary advantage is not worth it. Especially with battle eye being as invasive as it is.

4 RepliesEdited by Dredgen Truth: 8/18/2024 2:32:43 AMI hate that the kind of people who play this game are the ones that we need to sit down with and genuinely explain to them why botting has been a bannable offense in live games since the world of warcraft days, if not before that. Going on 9 years playing this series, and consistently, the thing that keeps me from enjoying it is never the game itself, but the players.
-
Console players are like, “Huh?” Then, they just laugh at all the sadness.
-
1 ReplyDid not read bungie never ban anyone they have to keep those metric stat high
-
4 RepliesIf this was something that could be done on both and PC, would you still complain about it? I've never used macros (cause I couldn't be bothered), but after spending hours farming chests/over throw to get one drop every 10 years - and then that drop is a duplicate, it's actually pushed me away from the game. I'm not surprised people used macros, as farming has been implemented in the most terrible way.
-
1 ReplyI think Bungie should be more clear about why they were banned. All in all the ban is unfair because they don't have a direct specific policy against it. So this looks bad on Bungie. Not that this discounts what you said about macro's slowing down the server. If this is the case, then state it clearly. Also some people were banned simply by association, which seems more unfair. They definitely do not deserve the ban at the very least. Yet at the same time, I'm glad I didn't try the macros because I assumed that something like this would happen. I will say that people that used the macros were too confident with *oh they'll never ban for this* and here we are. Finally, we need to look at the actual issue here. I just did four overthrows and still no class item. I almost did another one but decided, nope. Not today.
-
2 RepliesNobody is reading all this.. add a TLDR

3 RepliesEdited by Guardian, Archon Of Light: 8/17/2024 9:29:54 PMMy thoughts exactly You shouldn't be using 3rd party software in any game to duplicate currency, just because some games tolerate it you shouldn't be shocked when some games don't If you use cheating tools, you will eventually be banned, and it will be entirely your fault
-
Go eat rocks -blam!-, bungie made the grind for this -blam!- WAY to much, and they were WAY too ambiguous on their enforcement on ToS.
-
This is the most schizo thing I've ever seen. Congrats, I guess.
-
5 RepliesEhhh… no. If a rule isn’t enforced (or even ever publicly discussed) for years, despite many people explicitly asking for clarification, Bungie is encouraging their behavior. No one deserves a lifetime ban just because they were the unlucky person Bungie found when they finally started randomly caring. A warning and brief restrictions to these people is much more fair and sends the exact same message. The way I see it, macro/AFK/loss farming has not had a reason to exist in this game unless there is a fundamental flaw in the system Bungie has introduced. These methods reveal points where the game is clearly not functioning to an adequate level. Why was everyone loss farming in IB a few seasons ago? A problem with the game. Why was everyone macro farming for class items? A problem with the game. Why do people AFK farm XP? A problem with the game. All of these situations are powerful learning experiences and wake-up calls. If the most rewarding way to play the game is to not play it at all, fix the -blam!- game.

Edited by FloodZ: 8/18/2024 6:48:58 PMAll the macro defenders would be absolutely screaming if there was a macro that helped players complete Dual Destiny or "elite" content like raids or GM nightfalls solo. "THAT'S NOT HOW BUNGIE MEANT FOR THE GAME TO BE PLAYED YOU DIDN'T EARN THAT!"

2 RepliesBloody hell. An actual post from you that I 100% agree with. Providing what you’re saying about the effects on the servers and stability of the game are correct? Which I’m going to assume that they are.
