I'm pretty sure this isn't exactly a hot take at this point so consider this more of a rant than anything.
The only way to improve the bar is by catching legendary or exotic fish. But the abysmal drop rates of legendary fish (much less exotic fish) make it nearly impossible to get a full bar of 'Focused Fishing'. Now you can improve your chances with more people but even if you're lucky enough to get enough people in the same instance to fish, those drop rates mean you better hope RNGesus decides to bless all of you. You could have 5 people fishing at once and not get the bar up one section.
Not only are the drop rates terrible, but you also better hope RNGesus blesses you again by not spawning a public event where you're fishing because that means the fishing spot disappears and you have to start all over again! Why public events completely remove the fishing spot and restart you're 'Focused Fishing' bar, I have no idea.
All of this is only made worse if you're trying for 'Efficient Angler' but it's bugged. Personally, I am currently sitting at 15 out of 25 fish for 'Efficient Angler' and yet I know I've fished up those remaining 10 during this season. Now I've seen many reasons as to how to fix this bug but the main one I've seen is to get max 'Focused Fishing' once, complete the public event that spawns and then get max "Focused Fishing' again to have it start counting again. That might as well be a pipe dream with how much RNG is involved as I mentioned above.
The design of this event is completely flawed. They should have either not let the fishing spot despawn during a public event (since you have to interact with the public event to do it anyway) allowing people to ignore it if they'd rather fish or if they really want to push public events, make completing a public event increase the 'Focused Fishing' bar instead of having us start all over. At least then, there's a gameplay loop that doesn't frustrate players. The fact that we are almost 1 week away from the end of the season and Bungie has not done anything to adjust the fishing or fix the 'Efficient Angler' bug is a complete joke
Edit: So I just fished 3 times on Nessus and completed 'Efficient Angler' while the bar was at 1 and a half... I don't even know anymore

Get in and out, I give it 5 minutes before going to the next location. If I haven't caught anything of significance by then, the odds are low of it happening.

It’s pure RNG, progress bar and perfect catch don’t yield any benefit.

You made 2 crucial mistakes with all of this 1. Wasting your time making a post about this because..... 2. You actually think bungie cares, listens to feedback and will do anything about it This game is complete trash, remove it from your system and move onto something else. Things will not improve and they will never respect your time invested.

Why are you still wasting your time fishing? You know the focused part is a scam. Many like me already tested it. I've caught more purple and exotic fish before my first bar is full than I have when all bars are full. It's not even close. Search some YouTube videos. Many of us exposed this scam event.

It’s bugged in a good way but only if you know how the bug works

6 RepliesI had no idea this was bugged but I've got Efficient Angler. Maybe my experience with this fishing will help- I hoard bait, about 400-500 on average, and do two sets of fishing in a row and (sometimes fighting in a Public Event in between). I get the exotics but the stat rolls are meh. I don't understand this "Focused Fishing" and sometimes see the bar increase. My controller vibrates whenever a fish is caught so Speed Fishing is possible.

2 RepliesLegendary and exotic fish are not difficult to catch. The pattern is very repeatable. I have a few hundred of these fish in my latest catch. Tomorrow I will post the interesting stats. Check the forum for my post tomorrow.

3 RepliesThey nerfed the -blam!- out of fishing so why bother with it?
