Imagine finally getting your dream job in video game art and the best your boss can do is tell you to put 3 new skins on an existing legendary and we're gonna call it a ritual weapon and pretend we did something.
I just have to wonder if the artists think it's as dumb as we do. No hate to them, really. Honestly feels like they're not allowed to do anything. I know artists, we all do. Nobody WANTS to create bland reskins for a living and attach their name to it.
Nobody.

Edited by Kiro - 13: 5/14/2023 4:29:10 PMTheir is a internal sentiment that bringing your A game no longer has any merits. For destiny that is, Im sure their TBA products are enjoying a great deal of creativity.

1 ReplyAs an artist, I feel like my job is just the way I get paid, no matter if someone wants me to do X or Y, and I'm fine with that. The stuff I do at home with MY time, is the unrestricted art.

1 ReplyI feel bad for any game designer that has to please you ungrateful morons

As an Artists i delved into Multiple avenues. Painting, Photography, Ceramics, Concept Design, 3D printing ect. Im even working on my own Trilogy thanks to Epics UE5 policy. If i was a Dev at Bungie in the Art Department and was told just slap a coat of paint on...no Design, no feel of "i ripped this arm of my enemy and now using it"....i would quite. Its Lazy.

And we still haven't gotten a ritual auto rifle either. This is what...the third scout?

3 RepliesEdited by ThatGuy: 5/12/2023 3:35:18 PM"Gotta feel a little bad for Bungie artists." Why? They're probably having a great time working on Matter.

1 ReplyIt sucks that this game has some of the best environmental art, backdrop art, and some of the best lore in gaming right now. But it doesn't matter because we don't get any of the lore, and they choose to keep reusing assets and planets. Such a shame

9 RepliesWhy are we feeling bad for people who have jobs and paychecks? These people regardless of what pride they take in their own work are paid employees and or subcontractors being paid to do specific tasks given to them by their team leads. Why should anyone feel bad for them? Buy the ticket take the ride. P.s. Bungie Hates Fun.

Compare the Earth to the blue cubes of Neomuna. I can just wander around looking at the flowers. I love how trees grow up through rusted old cars. There are labels on the green storage containers that you can read. The cables in the mechanical areas make sense. The wrecked buildings have rebar and the asphalt has cobble stones underneath, just like in Europe. Any artist would love working on that, not garbage like Avalon.

I really feel bad for all the devs at Bungie. The game is being bashed to hell right now, and it’s not the fault of the devs or the artists at Bungie. It’s the CEO’s and managers ruin this game.

4 RepliesThey should get proper jobs like real men.

this can be a touchy subject, depending on the individual. i've read though the replies and agree with some stuff but i honestly think that there is no problem. Any artist knows they can do whatever they want and any intelligent one knows to distinguish between work and passion. All i'm trying to say is that if they are working anywhere for that matter, not just Bungie, they are no longer... starving. If they feel their talent is wasted they either move on or freelance as a second job/career. I guess what i'm trying to say is if you feel for the artist, you should feel for Bungie. I'll give you an example: Who do you think suffers here? After months (if not longer), countless hours of coding, artistry, animating, proofing, testing. $ etc. Bungie scraps the entire project after releasing it for the benefit of the player base.

As a artist myself, I’ve chosen my words carefully when it comes to criticism with this game. When it comes to art direction, it takes a lot of brain power than people know. It’s truly a craft that requires a piece of yourself with each illustration you do. Once it’s in the hands of the producers of the actual content they package to sell to us, that’s a completely different ball game. It would be wrong to lump them in with the people who handle the ecosystem of this game. You know, the ones that take away fun exploits but keep the ones that frustrate us for months, sometimes years.

2 RepliesIt’s not like those 3 skins are all they work on.

easy money for them is how I see it. ride the gravy train like the rest of them.

Slightly off topic but ...watched Alice in Borderlands the other day and the second season is almost identical scenes from D1 cant remember thge names of the locations but there a pvp map in a city and there are lots of other scenes that look so similar . Based in Tokyoi so im guessing the artists drew some ideas from there :)

The artists are working on new IPs. They don't need your sympathy.

6 RepliesI can only imagine what talent is being suppressed because of this business. Just train the new people to pump out garbage because we don't care about quality work. I've quit jobs because of how lazy and sloppy some businesses actually are like this one. Hell, most of the talent that had a say that at least cared about their reputation left this business because of this business flawed logic.

Or,that’s top tier work for them.

5 RepliesThing is, the ornaments for the ritual weapons are actually getting way worse, less effort and detail-made and cheaper looking. Back around Pre-Lightfall, legendary ornaments looked good. Either small embellishments were added, or differing textures spiced up the weapon. Recently, it feels like every ornament they’ve been doing for Ritual weapons is the bare minimum of a pallete swap for the three activities/factions and the new scout seems to suffer from this too. Imagine going through the process of having to get those ornaments made only for folks to not only not use them, but instead use shaders that have been around in the game for years instead. Literally wasted effort and time. For some reason, it feels like the more I try to look away the more I find parts where the game exudes Bungie’s tone deafness towards the players. Their “don’t overdeliver” policy is definitely at work.

2 RepliesSo I have this thought recently, I know they've said there's no new destiny game in the works, all the job descriptions & leaks point to all new games being non destiny, Pete Parsons said so himself, BUT what if the reason we've been getting reskins & the same gun models over & over for a few years now is that they're making new guns but they're for whatever happens after final shape, possible new game that's been kept super secret.
-
Imma say the same thing about this I don't mind redskins if it's done right like make it look like the Long Arm but also make it look unique towards the season like the GL in season of the plunder It shouldn't be too hard to edit a existing model themed towards the season especially if they when they go out they way to do 3 ornaments Added sea grass or reefs to it like the season of the undying weapons
-
3 RepliesBungie already said 2 years ago. Ritual weapons will be decent static rolls on non unique weapons. Mainly for people who dont have time to grind for good rolls. So this is a ritual weapon for people who may not do dungeons a lot. Rituals arent for people who actually play a lot and farm activities.
-
Nope, they knew what they were getting into.

What are they even doing for eight hours a day? It's not work. It's slop.
