Hey, New Light here. I've started playing the game 1 month ago, and honestly I've been enjoying it very much. But something bothered me after doing the DLC's: Who the hell was Cayde and who is Petra Venj? Who were Rasputin and Felwinter, and who is Osiris, Saint-14 and Saladin? Then after a bit of searching, I found out about sunsetting and stuff. 2 DLC's worth of story and a tutorial questline with exotics just removed so D1 content can enter D2? Even after reading some lore books, I was still confused about the lore, and I didn't want to read the gigantic pages of the wiki, so I decided to just not find out about the lore for the time being.
Here's the thing, many new players will be confused about the lore because they won't have access to the start of the storyline, which would basically be reading the second half of a book. Even though watching cutscenes would be an option, the experience wouldn't be the same. Bring back the 2 DLC's, the old tutorial questline (as an optional mission) and the old planets back, I don't care if we have to pay €45 for each expansion, I just want the original Destiny 2 experience that I downloaded the game for.

I agree!

Agreed! Some friends got me to play Destiny 2 with them, but all Year 1(Red War, Curse of Osiris, and Warmind have been vaulted) I was lost. I had to watch Year 1 on Youtube, and started playing on Shadowkeep. Now I'm caught up in Season of the Splicer. Still we paid for this. They could at least allow us to download Year 1 to our hard drive to play independent of the server, or play it from the game disc. I heard Bungie say they'd bring it back, but at this point most are treating it as it won't ever come back.
