Return Skill-Based Matchmaking to the Crucible

I'm sure this is not the first time that this post has been made, but it's a very touch and go issue with some members of the community that I finally feel like it is my time to contribute. With the exception of Trials, and maybe a few select game modes designed to be fun, like Team Scorched or Mayhem, the overall experience in the Crucible ever since SBMM was removed has been a severe DOWNGRADE in quality of the game. Prior to the removal of SBMM, the Crucible experience was actually enjoyable for me, because it was challenging enough to push myself, but not so hard that I'd be getting steamrolled every match. Nowadays, even in Iron Banner, where it says while hovering over the icon "Matchmaking Prefers: Similar Skill", my matches do NOT play as if operating on SBMM. The reason I can ascertain this is due to the fact that, if the game was in fact operating under the SBMM premise, my matches would start to balance out after maybe 2-3 games, due to the game evaluating my skill level and matching pairing me with people around a similar rank. This is not happening, and instead, I, and many people who I've talked to, are constantly getting steamrolled. The Premise of taking away SBMM was probably one of the worst "balance" changes made to the game, seeing as how the entire PvP experience has instead been thrown totally out of whack. Instead, after talking with a few people, I'd like to offer an alternate approach. There HAS to be some degree of SBMM, otherwise the PvP experience is going to continue to go downhill. Rather than completely remove it from the game, have a SEASONAL skill reset for all players. Similar to what some competitive games would classify as a "Placement Match", players would operate under Connection-based Matchmaking for their first....say....10-20 matches. After that point in time, the game would then evaluate their skill based on their performance, and start to Matchmake them based on said evaluating skill, matching them against easier or harder opponents as their SBMM rank rises or falls.

  • Personally I can’t be convinced it hasn’t come back already. Like the first week of cbmm was applied to the crucible playlists connections were great, now connections are awful again.
