Shotguns are out of control.

Every time i play crucible it's all i see, it is getting really annoying, try something new people.

  • Shotgun players wanted fusions nerfed, now shotguns will get hit, next tracer rifles and then you'll be left using side arms. Wow history truly does repeat itself. D1 all over again (minus the tracer rifles).

  • Shotguns will always be the most used secondary weapon unless they were nerfed to be terrible and even then they’d get decent usage. The reason for this is that shotguns are the ideal back up weapon for varying skills of players and particularly those who are less experienced in PvP. Many new players will just main their primary and have the shotgun in their back pocket of some is close to them. It’s an easily understandable playing rhythm and one you can see improvement in as you get better. To add to this, players with great movement, game sense and anticipation make shotguns extremely deadly OHKO weapons and can manipulate space so that they are almost unplayable. However, high level fusion players and snipers also can achieve this level. Shotguns also see usage at the middle of the road players who often lose one vs one primary fights and try to ‘main’ their secondary. I do believe this tier of player is very common and often called an ‘ape’ but Erentil is probably the most effective weapon for this type of player and has seen an increase in usage as a special weapon meta evolves as it’s effective in the majority of ranges you find yourself in PvP and is usually battling a primary weapon instead of a shotgun or a sniper. TL;DR: shotguns will always have high usage, it doesn’t mean they are too powerful. At least shotgun apes can be countered easier than a fusion ape. High level players will be able to abuse all the special weapons.

  • You are about 1 year late mate Shotguns were out of control since forsaken. But what can expect from a dev team that streamed the tforsaken preview with triple shotguns and crouching in corners A bunch of loosers to be honest

  • Read the description for the python shotgun from gambit [spoiler]shotguns in video games especially destiny dont reflect how a shotgun acts at all in reality if anything they need a huge buff to range but yea game balance[/spoiler]

    • Shotguns are bad because every shot is RNG and sometimes you get mapped (you notice this) and other times you take no damage (you don’t notice this). Shotties need a range nerf and the removal of rng pellets. Fusions are broken because of hitscan. Not because of range. Make the VOOP projectile Snipers are broken due to, once again, RNG aim assist. Sometimes I hit shots that aren’t possible (aka through a wall or a mile off a dudes head) and other times I am a pixel off a guys head and it ticks zero damage. Don’t get me started with flinch, If someone gets the drop on you with a High Cal weapon (and are in it’s effective range) there is no reason for you to get a headshot period. How to fix snipes? Increase flinch on High Cal bullets and make hitboxes CONSISTENT. (Aka dedicates servers) We all seem to forget that every special is broken in some way. Nerf shotties? Snipers reign supreme. Nerf snipers? Shotguns and fusions reign. The fact of the matter is that every special in the game is in need of tweaking at the same time in order for there to be balance And I know I’m not pro by any means, but this is coming from a player one season away from being unbroken.

    • Snipers are out of a control right now as well on console. It's like suddenly everyone decided to equip a sniper and now scout rifles don't seem to do much to counter them. Many times i have shot a sniper in the face only for them to just shrug it off and shoot me. I grinded a good patron of the lost cause scout rifle with explosive rounds and rapid hit and even that doesnt seem to flinch them as easily as it use to.

      • Maybe it’s an Xbox thing, but I see lots of things other than shotguns, and when I do see shotguns I have enough distance between me and them I can do something. I like to run a side arm and scout rifle. So shotguns aren’t too bad. I fear Fusion rifles more. lol they can be just outside my side arm range, too close for ideal scout use and one shot me. Ha.

        • Bungie should just outright remove Quickdraw from Special Weapons and limit the ammo pickup to only 2 shots. A second Scavenger mod wouldn't help.

              Only in crapable aka crucible. Shotguns are great in pve. Crucible ruined most of our guns thanks to people like you

                that's right, nerf shotguns and HIF and HC and... well everything else you PvP boys should fight with just unpowered knives, tied together with a 6 foot cord on the offhand wrist now i'd pay fractiline stuff to watch that !

              • I understand the damage output for Shotguns and Fusions, i honestly think the real problem is how often you can use special weapons compared to Scouts, Auto Rifles, Pulse Rifles, and Hand Cannons. Each time you spawn in the Crucible, you should have limited special ammo. Maybe 2 or 3 shots for Shotguns, Fusions, and Snipers. Maybe even less considering which game mode you’re in. Let’s say you spawn with 2 or 3 shots in a 6v6 and maybe even a 4v4, Maybe. Survival would be busted with 2 or 3 shots. I don’t think Damage is the problem, availability of ammo is.

              • I have over 18k shotgun kills. So I think I'm pretty qualified to speak on this. Anyone who says shotguns aren't a problem in PvP is doesn't understand what constitutes a skill gap. Primaries are completely overshadowed by shotguns and fusions in this game because of how easy they are to use. In the case of shotguns, I can say the biggest problem is the lack of damage falloff. You can easily take down someone's shield from 13+ meters even though OHK range is 9 meters at most. This means players can mindlessly ape and still have the advantage over someone using a primary. Players don't have to make smart, deliberate pushes that involve skillfully maneuvering around cover to close the gap. Just run or fly at someone in a straight line.

                  I've stopped equipping a special weapon specifically to stop myself from just feeding into them. I know I'll get insta-gibed by that shotty, so the least I can do is not feed into their ammo pool. Shotguns have been the dominant choice since day 1, followed by snipers then fusions.

                • The main problem is high impact and precision frame shot guns have a tad bit too much range and ammo from scavenger perks allow players to run non stop shotguns and primary weapons need way more forgiveness in body shot damage
