Sounds like MMOs aren’t your game and neither are shooters
Don’t like feeling “forced” to play in particular way then don’t play.

Wat? Since when do MMOs and shooters force you to use specific weapons and subclasses?

MMOs never force you off of a Class/Job to play another. You choose when to decide for yourself if you ever want to try out another Class/Job. MMOs never say,"Oh, so you like playing Tank, huh? Go play a Botanist." Destiny forces you out of what you enjoy (unless if you enjoy all Weapon Types/Archetypes). All because someone doesn't enjoy using certain Weapon Types, that doesn't mean that,"Shooters aren't for you then." What that means, is that they obviously don't want to be forced to use what they don't enjoy to make progress through an arguably rather pointless Quest/Pursuit. That's simply bad game design on Bungie's end.

No game really forces you to play, it compels and suggests. Then again thats life too. If you want something (like in your case, cash) you may have to do things you dont want (like work a job at you don't want to be at) If you want something you'll have to move from your comfort zone. The best part is if you do it now you have all season to not worry about it

That's not the point OP is making. Games are not real life. Games are meant to be fun. They feel it's a second job. A chore. And it honestly is. Of course it's going to be due to the nature of the game. But that doesn't invalidate their opinion on it.
