General Gameplay needs to be more rewarding.

So, I'm sat here. Waiting for the daily reset. So that I can play the game again. Why? Because so much of the loot in the game comes from guaranteed rewards from Daily and Weekly bounties and challenges. Like, I could do things like farm Strikes, Nightfalls, Lost Sectors, Forges etc. But the chances of getting anything other than worthless Blue items are so slim that it's honestly not worth the time. This is a game that has getting loot as the base motivation. Be it getting up to 750 light, getting God Rolls on Legendaries, getting Exotics, getting Catalysts for those Exotics, getting God Rolls on Exotic Armour etc... Yet, general gameplay won't even give you a reasonable CHANCE at any of this as most of the stuff you get is crappy Blue items that are almost always below your light level by a significant margin (If not capped out at Y1 values of ~380). It's honestly at a point where I think the primary reason we can't auto-dismantle Blues is because it'd show that we literally don't pick up any loot for 99% of our gameplay. Really, we need less reliance on time-gated rewards and more focus on being rewarded for spending time in the game doing activities. That's not to say we can't have Daily/Weekly items, just that it shouldn't feel like those are the ONLY source of items. TL;DR More loot drops plz

  • Agreed, they also need to fix RNG for daily and weekly bounties. Cant tell you how many times i was disappointed because I completed several weekly bounties in one day, only to get a tangled web helm not once but like three times in a row, each were terrible rolls to.

  • It's one reason I dont play anymore all grinds in Destiny 2 have been generally not fun and overall not as rewarding. When you have a combo of that it just motivates people to walk away.

This is seriously why I gave up. There's just so little to do in the game that feels like actual progress and the stuff that does grant tangible progress typically has a caveat attached to it. Cue the worst offender by far...
rEtUrN tO aDa OnE *shudder
Destiny is a fun game. It's easy to have a good time with friends. But it is not a game I can get actively invested in anymore. The basic things to just use what I currently own (but am vertically barred from using) slow me down too much to enjoy my other characters or other ways to play. The difficult things that I actually want to do are too dependent on RNG to be worth the time doing over and over again. Much less the time to just get three chances a week to do them in the first place.

  • Agreeing but think we need some more loot in general though aswell.
General Gameplay needs to be more rewarding.
That won't happen because then Bungie couldn't drag out the same old content over weeks & months. The powerful reward system in this game is basically nothing but one giant timegate, as you noted, with the goal to throttle player progression - even prime engrams are. I mean in any other game you can get lucky with some powerful drops but nuh-uh, not with Bungie. Prime engrams are also gated, making sure you first have to find a certain number of regular engrams before you can get one again. And even then they've made sure that you can't progress by just playing like a madman. If you get too many prime engrams the prime attunement buff will simply expire so you can't progress any further. The people coming up with this system are outright snakes. And remember all that jazz before Forsaken (or was it before warmind?) about how they plan to get rid of these weekly milestones to give people more options? Well, essentially all they did was renaming milestones into challenges. Besides that pretty much nothing has changed. A classic Bungie nothingburger with lies and empty promises on the side.

  • Bungie: "play how you want." (just don't expect progress) "we want to bring people together." (no MM or ingame LFG) "we want to respect players time." (adds timers and seasonal resets) players: "we love this game!" (we are liars.) 🤘🏽

    • Bungie has mastered the art of forcing players into certain activities. Only for a slim possibility of seeing a reward..

        •
General Gameplay needs to be more rewarding.
Bungie said they didn't have enough resources for the in-game content, yet they seem to have no problem whatsoever taking really good care of Tess and make sure her inventory is always full. Can we call Bungie a liar?

          • yep, Say No To Rage has been on this for awhile and is right. gameplay is great but its a looter with no loot. 15 out of the last 17 matches of IB have been blues. just want 1 swarm with spike but 364 packages later.... honestly its getting harder to care about playing

            • What gets me is that they got strikes pretty much perfect toward the end of D1. I remember getting on with clanmates, drinking beer and just grinding strikes for hours to get skeleton keys. Everyone had something from one or more strike chests that they wanted. We also had 3oC back then, so you could do strikes to fill out your exotic collection. Bungie got rid of all that, and turned what used to be a great time-wasting activity into an activity that becomes pointless if you're not actively working on a bounty or weekly challenge.

            • We need a mid maxing system... I believe its called that. There are always ways to improve your build, whether it be through getting the stats of your armor up or going after a certain set up perks... and we need WAY MORE PERKS. Not just ammo increase or ability regeneration buff.

            • See, the problem is Destiny as a franchise is ripe with lore and story but dry and content less. The solution? Their is none. Come Destiny 3, if Bungie want to actually combat reward and replay-ability then they would have to drop base game with the 2 small dlcs and 1 big. Basically they would instead of having to drop base game + dlcs, would have to drop a full years of content but still have equal size dlcs afterwards which would require each game to be in development for many many years.

And the worrying thing is they're moving away from levelling being a reason to play. So that leaves what? Seeing as screens had 900 power characters, I'm guessing power levelling will still be a thing, just a lot easier/faster maybe? Which leaves what? Chasing poor loot from shallow pools? God help us

I'm not convinced players are happy playing for triumphs, collections, etc. Theres to much superfluous crap in Destiny these days.

Exactly, most loot is pure garbage. It’s a half-assed hamster wheel disguised as a game.

                    • Yeah. D1 Y3 had a better setup. You could grind all you wanted and work for strike chests ir choise between weapons or armor for rank up packages.

                      • agreed, especially if you want specific loot. the menagerie is *perfect* - but only for those items on the menu. if you want a perfectly rolled 180 hand cannon, or a great roll on a slug shotgun - you're just shit out of luck. you can expect to play 40 strikes (7 hours), cash in your tokens and maybe get two service revolvers? none of which are worth keeping. I do think menagerie is perhaps a bit too rewarding. getting the *perfect* piece of gear shouldn't be a few runs of the menagerie. im fine with it taking 7 hours. i think my issue is that its all luck. maybe if there was a way to get the gun, and then through effort, turn it into the gun i want? i don't know. im not saying shit should be easy - just that this slot machine mechanic is depressing for anyone who knows how numbers work.

                      • This is one of the main reasons they should bring back the old faction system from D1. No matter what you were doing, you were always slowly progressing that faction rank. You might just want to hop on and play some strikes for fun, but then you end up leveling up your faction and getting a sweet new ship,, piece of armor, shader, or even an exotic class item. The old faction system Made it feel like you were ALWAYS playing for something even if you were just messing around, and I wish They would bring it back.

                        • Plain and simple, once random rolls were introduced in D2, we should’ve been flooded with loot. The fact that strikes, Crucible/Gambit and Iron Banner matches, rarely reward gear from their respective loot pools (currencies withstanding) is simply not rewarding enough. In the end, I’m hoping the release of Shadowkeep changes things but I do have my doubts. PS: This goes double for the Blind Well.
