For me it can be summed up by the following deficiencies in the fabric of the game: - Deliberately punishing RNG to artificially extend play time - Crucible matchmaking that is hostile to a large segment of the player base - Things like cores that restrict player freedom and choice - NERFS, NERFS, NERFS - why get excited about the new season's gear? If it is effective, it will get nerfed. If it is okay, they will leave it alone. If it sucks, they'll give it a little buff and expect you to thank them for it. I have yet to get OEM. Nerfed before I could even use it. - Too much repetitive chore based content. If you are going to make players grind and grind, give them a new location to do it in.
