So, a girl in my HPA class asked if all dinosaurs laid eggs. She refused to believe several people saying, "Yes, they all did.", so she asked for "evidence". Aside from the fossil record, this is my chance to mess with an idiot. Give me some good "proof".
Edit: I forgot to add that she thought only flying reptiles laid eggs. She believed that the placental-style birth was used by all water and land reptiles.

Even if they birthed “live”, they still were in eggs inside the womb, because all reptiles are egg layers

4 RepliesIs there a reptile that doesnt lay eggs?! 🤔

In 2017 (16?) A Dinocephalosaurus fossil was found with what looked like a fetus. It’s like an underwater brachiosaurus. So they might be right. But I doubt they had this in mind when they asked for proof. There’s a few articles on it. Quick search should pull them up.

2 RepliesIt’s a very good question. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-14447187 I feel sorry for the poor girl having to put up with people like you in her class. 🤷♂️

Well, I’m laying eggs.

2 RepliesWell, most dinosaurs were reptilian in nature, which meant they were cold blooded and had no real way of keeping eggs warm within their bodies. Then then laid eggs to preserve them. Plus most dinosaur offspring fossils we’ve encountered were near old nests with egg shell fossils. Now granted, some dinosaurs were not like this, and acted more like traditional mammals, but seeing as they either became mammals or went extinct, it’s irrelevant

1 ReplyI personally recall an argument by some many many years ago debating the possibility of such... while it has not been proven it has also not been "not proven"... technically she could be right, one day...
no spoilers
Convince her that all dinosaurs lay a similar amount of eggs as spiders and such arthropods do. Can you imagine how -blam!-ing many dinosaurs there would have been if they all survived to maturity? Sheesh.

I don’t think scientists do know that ALL dinosaurs laid eggs do they? I’m pretty sure I remember reading something about scientists finding evidence that some marine dinosaur gave birth to live young. But I think they agree the majority of dinosaurs laid eggs. Aside from the fossil record there’s also the genetic evidence. The modern day animals that dinosaurs are mostly closely related to all lay eggs (like birds and reptiles). https://www.amnh.org/dinosaurs/dinosaur-eggs

You know that dinosaur egg oatmeal (if they still make that stuff. I remember it was around when I was a kid so I dunno) yeah get her that and YouTube a dinosaur documentary while you hand her it.

1 ReplyI don’t know what HPA means, nor do I know how old you or this girl is. Skepticism is healthy; if one isn’t yet aware of established facts, there’s nothing wrong with not accepting what you said.

3 RepliesThis is sad. You need to raise you’re goals in life. Other than this. No help given.

2 Replies... Well they all turned into birds, and birds lay eggs...
not included in the DLC
