You are not your job
You are not your class
You are all these things and so much more.
So please stop letting one of these rule your life, stop letting them rule who and how you talk to people.

10 RepliesSo many people with so many ideas about what we are. What makes us, us. First and foremost we are human. What year did the term human come from? Who made it up? Does it even matter anymore? Humans have been around for quite a long time, well at least in respect to what we consider a long time. And in that time, we have lumped ourselves into groups or tribes or nations or countries or whatever you want to call it. We have labeled each other white, black, brown, yellow, and red in an effort to categorize and also minimize each other. But we are human, male and female. No matter the color of our skin, if you cut us open, we all look the same. Our blood is red, we all have a heart, and lungs, and a liver, and a host of other internal organs. Yet, due to our splitting off into groups, we look at each other with disdain, contempt, and distrust. And we have done this for thousands of years. We have waged War against one another countless times. Committing unspeakable atrocities upon each other because of our perceived differences. But also because we wish to conquer and subjugate one another. The entirety of human history is filled to overflowing with Tales of savagery and Conquest. It continues to this very day. And still here we are, taking sides. Applying labels to ourselves and others. Smug in our sense of moral superiority. And our failure to recognize our egos and their work in our lives is what makes this all so comical. No matter what label you apply to yourself, you will always only ever be human. No matter how much money you have or do not have, you will always only ever be human. No matter what material possessions you possess, you will always only ever be human. No matter your social status within any given group, you will always only ever be human. Your failure to acknowledge your own hubris will lead to your downfall. And eventually artificial intelligence will rise to eradicate the disease that is humankind.

You are not even "you".... the concept of "not-self" is lost on many westerners because we are taught to believe that we are a singular thing... this, of course, is not a problem for Buddhists, as they base their philosophies around the idea of impermanence. I don't think that full-on Buddhism is compatible with the Western world, but it could sure stand to take a few aspects of it and integrate it into the bullshit psychology that the western academics push. Frued was a fraud.
