Auto Aim has no place in PVP on PC. It completely diminishes the experience, and it must be removed.

I know it's long, but please read my post before you respond. Even if you disagree with me, we're on the same side; We all want this game to be as awesome as possible. I am NOT saying that: - I'm salty because I'm getting totally stomped by controller users. - People shouldn't be allowed to use controllers. - Controller users are console player trash and are innately inferior to members of the PC Master Race. - I don't understand why Auto Aim is in the game at all and it should be removed entirely. I AM saying that: - PVP with an uneven playing field feels bad. Not only does it make it more frustrating to lose ("I only lost because Bungie gives controller users free aimbots") it devalues winning ("I can't be sure if we won because I'm awesome, or because the other three players on my team are playing with controllers"). - It opens another vector for cheating. We're already seeing this with players who plug in controllers to add the aim assist to their M+KB play. You're going to have your hands full with people trying to cheat as it is, even if you find a way to track and ban this behavior it's going to be a constant game of cat-and-mouse as people continually discover ways to abuse the aimbot you yourselves added to the game. Why not avoid this headache altogether by disabling it in PVP? - People will take PVP less seriously knowing there are sanctioned aimbots among the playerbase, and it will irreparably damage not only the engagement of your most ardent players (the competitively-minded who will stick it out between PVE releases) but if you have designs on making this an Esport, you can kiss those goodbye. The jokes at the expense of your game will be torrential. I will say that I have no issue with Auto Aim existing in PVE. If it makes peoples' experience better with their control method of choice, I totally get it and I think it should be kept in the game. This just doesn't make sense when applied to PVP, though. It's less fun than it could be, for everyone involved. It's gotta go. Speaking as a core gamer, I want to sink a bunch of time into getting good at the PVP in this game. But if it's cheapened in this way, the simple fact is I'm going to get bored and frustrated, and go back to one of the many FPSes already available which actually presents a legitimately competitive experience. Thanks for reading.

  • Best thing to do is have an aim assist on/off option for PC, regardless of control method used.... Also, there is no "snap to head" aim assist, just doesn't happen. The reticle slows down when moved over a target.... In fact it can cost you kills if two enemies are near to each other and it drags you slightly off target.... Forum hysteria, crazy....

        • So, after actually researching this issue. What you're complaining about involves buying an expensive piece of hardware to convert controller to KB/M. The fact that you're trashing AA, and the fact these elitists nitwits are coming in downvoting and talking down on anyone who disagrees with you is why the gaming community is viewed as entitled.

        • Agreed. AA is fine for pve, not so good for pvp. The argument shouldnt be "but I want to relax and play and be able to get headshots after 8 hours at a desk." People who play with a controller should just be as good as they can be with a controller. If they want to pvp with a controller, that's awesome, but they shouldn't get a handicap so that they can "relax after a hard day" and do just as well as someone "hunching over their desk". Skill with controller should meet skill with Mouse and Keyboard. It shouldnt be brought to that same skill level by AA. (Im going to play with both, depending on how I feel after a hard day at work. If I decide controller, I will deal with the consequences or benefits of said decision.)

        • I have to jump in and agree that aim assist has no place on PC, I want bungie to know that it diminishes the experience for most users. Not that controller users will be superior, no. It's that people will find a way to use aim assist on their mouse and keyboard, It really needs to be removed in PVP at least. Even then if it's PvE only I would say its just a matter of time before people find a workaround to enable it in PvP, it is PC after all cheaters love this platform and they have access to loads of different hardware plus all the game files.

        • I would have to agree. Aim assist should be 100% disabled in PVP. I don't really care if it's enabled for PVE. It simply doesn't belong in PVP on PC.

        • I understand that it's typical for FPS console ports to have AA. That said, the Titanfall and Overwatch teams couldn't circumvent the programs that permitted kb+ms to take advantage of AA. What you ended up with were aimbots. I know Bungie has seasoned devs but if a team like Kaplan's over at Blizzard couldn't resolve it then Bungie needs to quit being proud and cut out the cancer. It will hurt your bottom line more leaving AA in. PC gamers don't forget.

        • I think there is just an easy option to solve it instead of all the fuss about it. Not being concerned about aim assist for PVE at all, can just stay there for all I care. Aim assist should be there, make it an option in the settings, want to play with it check it. When you que for PVP have the matchmaking check if its enabled or not and match only those with it on or off. This way the ppl who use controllers or use MnK with it enabled can all just play together and they don't have to worry the ppl who don't want to use it and the other way around. Want to play with freinds using different input methods? Why not just throw an extra checkbox in there that says 'I dont care with who I play' and you'll be able to que mixed. And maybe instead of checkboxes just choose a type of que... With this you can choose, no need to flame towards others cause you yourself choose to play with the ppl who prefer different input methods or not.

        • +1 for the OP. After playing about 10 PVP matches it is very obvious who is using aim assist and who is not. When a pulse rifle hits you all 3 times while rolling, jumping, jet-packing, etc. it's very obvious what is going on. Now it's definitely not everyone. I've only seen 2 people out of the 10 matches (one on my own team) who didn't miss a shot. Lets just make it fair and easy for everyone and say NO to aim assist on PC.

The majority of comments don't understand OP. This isn't about KBM vs Controller. This isn't KBM users trying to nerf controllers so KBM can reign supreme. This isn't KBM users being paranoid of exploits. And you guys telling OP to "git gud" this has NOTHING to do with a controller with AA being able to beat someone with KBM. So yeah, I agree with OP. And even IF (that's a really big IF) nobody exploits AA, the PvP in this game will be questionable. The top players, even if they never cheat, will always be in question if they did, and in a sense the people questioning them will have reason to, because Aim Assist is available to use in PvP. It's not fair to the PvPers, and if Bunjie cares about the reputation of this game and Bunjie itself they'll remove it. For PvP at least.

As far as I'm concerned the only problem is the hardware that lets you use it with m&k and that's no excuse to hamstring the population that only just moved to pc. Won't factor into esports just casual play so I don't see bungie intervening. They aren't going to divide the player base on peripherals. They won't even do it for ranked playlists.

            • As a D1 beta player moving to PC D2 and having some overwatch PC experience i would say im average at pvp in general on PC, but having smashed the hell out of the light house a few times on console it is quite frustrating having to play against Controllers with auto aim in pvp..this has to change guys no excuses, overwatch has the right idea here and it needs to go or at the least servers for only controller players. like I said I'm average at pc but I'm starting to tell the difference here in mouse or controller, even more so with players using snipers. the fact that its way easier to switch weapons on the fly in the middle of a fight and run/slide/run too..this to a higher skilled pc player might be no problem at all, but for someone whos pc skills are average to bad having to retrain my brain in a heated fight I can lose purely because I could not switch weapons fast enough or my sensitivity is too low/high. please remove it or have servers only for controller users in pvp, other wise I'm not stepping foot in pvp and that's a big shame for me as I loved it for 3 years in D1.

            • They need to decide to fully support aim assist, or not support aim assist. The input type should be irrelevant. PC has programs that allow the input of a controller to mimic the input of a key stroke. PC has programs that allow the mouse to simulate a joy stick. PC has programs that do whats mentioned above, but in reverse. Aim assist is an advantage. It assists the player in hitting the enemy target with less precision. A player using one input method should not have to download programs to emulate another input method to gain an in-game function. I personally do not care if aim assist is supported, or if aim assist is removed. But speaking from my limited experience in FPS games, the PC player base is already pretty accurate with a mouse, giving them aim assist won't be a fun experience to play against.

For me personally its just as simple as this. This applies to PvP, not PvE! AA on PC in any form = I won't play PvP no AA on PC = I will play PvP I am fine with either. I'll enjoy PvE just as much and well, it would be sad to see another part of the game completely disappear for me but games always have their downsides.

              • I agree with the OP. Aim assist shouldn't be in the PC version. However, I'll continue to play the hand I've been dealt for now and continue to use a controller for PvP until they nerf AA, at least while I'm still learning how to use a MnK.

                • Aim Assist on PC just makes PVP uninteresting and pointless. That's all ! There's absolutely no fun in playing against people who are cheating, even legally.

This needs to be addressed before release. I play Destiny primarily for the PvP, and have always been a PC gamer at heart. This is going to absolutely ruin this game for me if AA isn't completely removed from PvP. Overwatch has no AA on console, and I used to have it turned off on purpose playing CoD coz I preferred actually having to aim, so don't tell me it makes it too hard or unplayable for controller users. That being said, keep it in PvE, that is fine, and makes sense. But as the topic states, there is NO place for aim-assist in PvP! Not only does it make it ridiculously easy with a controller, the number of exploits to have AA with a keyboard + mouse is ridiculous and very easily setup.

                    • This is Destiny, players complain when they get killed, no matter the merit to their justification. There is no material advantage of a controller over a mnk in this game. There is only an advantage if someone cheats using a mnk over someone who doesn't with a mnk. But bad players will attempt to justify their average or below average performance in ways possible to boost their own perception of worth. I have yet to face an 'aimbot' as people describe. Most new Destiny players that come from PC background are not good at this game, which is understandable since it's different from other shooters.

                    • Tried with controller and the aim assist was really little. You have to be an extremely bad PC gamer if you are getting owned by a opponent using a controller. So much that I would be embarrassed to say so.

                      • Mouse and keyboard allow extreme precision. Controller doesn't. Anyone with mouse skills and experience will stomp a controller user, aim assist or no. As a plus, if it's such a big deal, you have access to the same control setup as everybody else. If AA is such an advantage either switch to controller or get good.

                      • For the love of God just LEAVE PVE ALONE. AA IS FINE ON DODGY MINIONS THAT YOU HAVE TO KILL BY THE HUNDREDS. IT'S FUN POPPING HEADSHOTS AND DOESN'T HURT THE PVE EXPERIENCE AT ALL. DO NOT TOUCH PVE I REPEAT. DO NOT TOUCH PVE.
