The Anti-Preorder Crowd Has Lost!

You put up a good fight, but Activision announced that D2's preorders outnumber those of D1.

Until the numbers are released by Activision, it is nothing more but a meritless claim. Edit: On a second note, where are the console beta statistics, I'd love to compare those two by the numbers to see the actual differences.

    • "I read it on the internet so it HAS to be true!" I hope it is true... love the game. The lack of control in controlling cheaters exhibited by Bungie in the Crucible is my biggest complaint. "Come play Destiny where it's OK to cheat - you can get to top 100 - even top 10 - in the world without us knowing you cheated." I mean really... how is that even possible?

    • Activision yea i read the news item. The one where they explicitly state that activision refused to elaborate when asked if these record numbers included cancelled preorders. Then looked a amazobs coming soon order chart and destiny is still languishing low down on that....hmmmm who to believe.

    • It's available on a whole new platform, PC. So, it's not surprising if it's numbers are higher. Doesn't mean anything about the quality of the game so celebrating that and not working at Bungie or Activision is pretty sad/a sheeple thing to do. You personally lose.

      • Doubtful that takes into account preorders that have been canceled, obviously they'll put the best spin on the numbers for the investors. Not to mention there were probably a lot of people that preordered then immediately canceled after they got a beta code.

          • That's because it's on pc this time and some players preordered it on both console and pc. Not to mention the pc platform opens the game up to a whole new audience. Nice try though. Pc players didn't get to witness bungie's feebleness during d1. Trust me , I give it 60 days on pc and it will be dead.

            • Course they would. You don't want to tell people like investors that your game is tanking. That's bad business.

                • http://www.vgchartz.com/preorders/42904/USA/ According to this site, D2 preorders as of about 2 weeks ago were only about 250k I guess the PC and world market numbers are much more significant...

                • More preorders and more beta participants for D2. While I do always view big business with suspicion as I'm a small business and I know big business doesn't like paying me for work done and big business will also lie to its customers, it can't really lie to the shareholders and get away with it all the time. Shareholders have access to figures, they have votes and can cause circumstances to change. So while there'll still be positive spin on it, it's going to be legit news.

                  • How many were people preordering on Amazon for a beta code, and then cancelling? 🤔

                    • I don't know how many times this has to be said, but PRE-ORDER MONEY DOES NOT GO TO ACTIVISION!!!!!! Pre-orders, and the money they receive goes to the retailers (or online service for digital games). Pre-orders for large release games, give retailers and idea how many physical copies they need to order and stock their stores with. The money Activision will receive, is from the retailers. They will order 5, 10, 15 million PHYSICAL copies of the game, and the retailer pays Activision for the copies. Retailers then sell us the copies THEY already paid for. However, all these $5 pre-orders, $20 pre orders, $60 pre-orders are going into retailers pockets. Activision is bragging about pre-orders, because it's going to drive retailers to order more copies for their stores. So the people who think pre-orders are evil or a necessity, it's neither. It's how retailers gauge what they need to have in stores on release day and beyond.

                      • Lost what? I'd feel I've lost more if I pre order and Destiny 2 turns out as shite as the first one. Not pre ordering until I hear what people think is a positive thing to do you silly fanboy.....

                      • No shit..... imagine that. A sequel gets higher pre-orders then the original that once it rolled out amassed a huge following.

                      • Preorders are inflated. I'm curious to see how many preorders actually pick up the game.

And if you knew anything about math and statistics you would understand how meaningless that fact is actually. I doubt there has ever been a sequel for which the preorders did not exceed those for the initial release; it means nothing! How about they say what percentage of D1 owners preordered D2? I don't care either way, but you strongly assert that an absolutely meaningless bit of data is indicative of something it may not be...
