Compared to other 2 classes skills? Yea, Hunter sucks and needs a buff. Dodge is a joke with that abysmal cooldown, pretty much useless in a bind. Golden gun is too short lasting and doesn't one shot. Arcstrider super is very flashy but also quite squishy and too slow to get into range of a hit, and its long range wave is pathetic compared to that of a Bladedancer. All in all, Hunter's abilities feel very underwhelming compared to Titan's or Warlock's.

  • The Hunter is not a useless class...I am sure some people will make it work and some people will use it to great effect. Nor am I saying that the Hunter won't be fun to play (and I really do hope it will be fun to play because I will main a Hunter since I find that the most aesthetically pleasing class). However I think it is a very objective assessment that overall the Hunter will be the weakest class in Destiny 2 compared to both the Warlock and Titan. This is, for one, due to a very situational class ability. While the dodge sounds nice in theory it has several drawbacks that limit its usefulness. - It is immediately blocked by scenery. It has very, very limited uses in narrow passages and hallways. - It can drop you off ledges...which is of course only a minor issue if that ledge isn't a dead zone drop off. - It is highly telegraphed...it is not hard to predict where the hunter will go and adjust weapons. You do not need to do that though...because of the next point. - You can still get killed in the middle of it....easily in fact...in all the instances I activated the ability in a fire fight (I activate at 25% health) over half the time I was killed before I could make that little turn. - It is a personal ability and doesn't transfer any benefits to the team. Both the Warlock and Titan have abilities that are not only personal but will also increase team survivability or damage output. - Both these abilities also have an extended duration after use and will remain for some time. The hunter ability is immediate. Possible solutions (notice the OR here between options): 1). This can be solved, imo, by adding invulnerability frames in the dodge...which would mean no damage during the entirety or part of the dodge animation. OR 2). The cool down need to be seriously reduced....I am talking about 50% or more. So the ability can be used more often. OR 3). Make it a double ability that can be activated twice before the cool down starts to run. A second reason is rather silly supers. This of course is entirely dependent on the second, as of yet not playable skill trees in both sub classes. But both the GG and the AS are underwhelming in both PvE and PvP. For Pole dancers the counter is really quite simple. Just jump back and you will for the most part be rather safe from getting killed. You get zero speed boost and zero jump tracking as an Arc Strider with a very small AOE....so you will waste the already very short super chasing Amy (so to speak). In comparison the Blade Dancer would track jumping targets...and the Striker Titan now has both a large AOE and a small speed boost when activating. Solution: A jump track ability. For GG...the damage in this skill tree is...well...frankly...laughable. 2 shots to kill a harpy...3 shots to kill a gladiator...2 shots to kill a PvP opponent at full shield and health. Duration is extremely short to even make six shots on separate targets let alone six crits. But given the number of shots needed for kills...you will mostly get those six shots when fighting trash mobs and even then it hardly is better than a good gun....in all other circumstances...this is just a three shot GG with extra steps. I have no solution for this other than a flat damage buff or a slightly longer duration. To be honest the second skill tree looks much better depending on how long that super lasts and what the damage per shot is.

Agreed - the dodge ability is pathetically bad compared to the rift and defence wall - it needs to have it's cooldown reduced to 6s or so to compete with them, and the melee charge perk needs to be binned and completely replaced. Not only that but Warlocks have a dodge built into one subclass with a lower cooldown than the hunter class dodge. What? For pvp Gunslinger is an utter rubbish class, far too many perks tied into the actual super, which you only get once per game (and the same for your allies - so generating 'more orbs' from precision kills etc. is completely useless). Arcstrider is also utter garbage in pvp - enjoy this wonderful clip of a poor arcstrider desperately trying to kill a single person backing away slowly and missing a reasonably number of his shots: https://twitter.com/chadlantistv/status/887555539739303938 It desperately needs to be able to outrun guardians (as it has no 'charge' ability, unlike both titan supers, nor a ranged ability, like all of the other supers in the game bar striker), especially if they are walking backwards! Can't see myself playing Hunter much in pve or pvp as it currently stands - the supers could do with some obvious tweaks, but the problems run deeper than that - I think both subclasses need a re-think and re-build in terms of perks and the class ability.

      • I think we just need some pve improvements right now we have arcstrider which is good for small ads and gunslinger which has very low damage if we had some range on arc strider or and a damage boost to GG or something similar I think it would help a lot also invincibility during shadestep would be nice since a titan can hide behind their barrier and warlocks can heal

      • Just give them invincibility frames during the roll.

      • On paper, the Hunter class seems to have been short-changed in the ability department. However, Gunslinger, ArcStrider and VoidWalker (a Blinking purple boss in PvP) are nuanced and need time and a bit of finessing. This has always been the case since D1 launched. Put the time in and reap the rewards. It seems to me that a good Hunter player would/will dominate in PvP, with, or without, a purple frisbee, ice-wall of boredoom, huge shoulder pads or a tight corset.

      • Hunters are God tier right now. There is an even larger skill gap now but the pay off is actually beneficial. My advise is to git gud or go play striker if you want an easy subclass to master.

      • I think it's less that the hunters got worse. (because they got better) but rather the other 2 classes feel a lot different now. Despite the changes to gunslinger i'm still playing and feeling the same. Despite the 10000x times better arc strider class it still basically feels the same. (i'm 100% aware of the supers differences and combos.) The sentinel is vastly different and far more supportive/flexible. Sunsinger was so trash that dawnblade literally feels brand new.

      • Actually hunters are in a really good place right now. It may take a little more skill, but the payout is often higher.

          • Yep. The dodge ability is bad for multiple reasons. All the other class abilities benefit the team. The Titan gives the team cover as well as instant reloads. The warlock gives the team a weapon buff and a healing buff. The hunter gets a dodge with a gimmicky ability cool down or reload. On top of that, it takes forever to get the dodge back. The ability needs to change.

            • The way I see it is the Titan gets a shield, warlock gets a rift and the hunter gets a dodge that reloads there weapon, pretty balanced I would say. But then the hunters ability is cut in half and a piece gets given to the other classes. Warlock gets the dodge and the Titan gets the reload. Not to mention the Titan shield is almost replenished by the time the first has disappeared.

              • Nobody seems to be mentioning that melee kills on arcstrider resets the dodge cooldown (and heals you and gives you a damage and range buff on your melees), and dodging near enemies resets your melee cooldown. I'm able to just sit in packs of enemies dashing around meleeing everything while my health is regenerating. Definitely a different playstyle than I'm used to but it's not underpowered at all.
