Why is Thunderstrike such an issue?!?

It's a CHARGED MELEE, just like sunstrike or energy drain. It's not the standard melee. It's not a OHK. I don't understand why everyone is -blam!-ing whining about it. Sure, it's got great range. Has everyone suddenly forgotten about smoke and throwing knives?? Seriously people, get your shit together.. Every class and subclass has strengths and weaknesses that players use to gain an advantage. How about you get gud instead of nerfing shit just because you get killed. If everything in this game had the exact same melee range, same super effects, same grenade power, same everything, it might as well be Halo5. The reason Thunderstrike has so much range is because it's a unique melee. It's not Shoulder Charge. It's not Shade Step. It's not Fireborn. All these abilities are unique to their subclasses. And they all lend to the diversity of the game. You wanna know one of the reasons Destiny is so stale? Wanna know why we're not as powerful as we used to be? Because you pussies won't stop crying nerf.. [u]Edit[/u]: I'm not COMPARING Thunderstrike to throwing knives or smoke. I'm using them as examples of other ranged, charged melee strikes. [u]Edit2[/u]: My whole points is that players are only whining about Thunderstrike because of the shotgun meta, and because of the constant nerfs to anything that kills you, not because it's actually OP. [u]Edit3[/u]: It's time to stop nerfing every little thing [b][i]every[/i][/b] class gets. I'm starting to realize shit is [b][i]supposed[/i][/b] to be unbalanced. That way to have a push and pull from the subclasses. Warlock has too much range? Titanskate da fuq outta there. Titan is too fast in a straight line? Get vertical with a Hunter. Hunter is too slippery with evasion? Warlock melee before you lose them. It's not hard.

  • Longest range + auto lock You can walk into a room, look at the ceiling and melee, the game will turn your character and land that melee on a poor guardian that's in safe distance (or so he thought)

          • Because people can't comprehend that every class has their own abilities... & with that set of abilities, comes a hefty set of each side - advantages AND disadvantages(shocking). This is the way I try to break it down best... let's set an example. Say, we're on Bannerfall out in the courtyard. There is an enemy player sitting in one of those little top cubbies on either side balcony... As a Storm, I Glide up quick, slide in and shotty-Thunderstrike them - they're dead, hardly a chance to react. Now, let's look at other ways I could've gotten that exact same kill, with virtually the same amount of effort put into it... I could jump up & throw a sticky. so that's 4 different subclasses I could've gotten the same kill with off the bat. I could've throw a wombo & A.) killed them with it, or B.) weakened them to the point I could push in and shotty them while disoriented from my Smoke. Which wouldn't require the grenade for the kill either if that was the case. I could skate up and Juggernaut the [b]f[/b]ucking shit out of them , or, I could get a shoulder charge up as well... I could throw a scatter nade w. Nothing Manacles if I wanted. Gunslinger is pretty much the only class where, in that type of scenario, I wouldn't be able to jump up and get a "cheap" ability OHK without much effort involved. (Maybe Voidwalker as well, being that nobody really uses Scatter). & you could still make that happen with an incendiary nade, or a quick handcannon shot+throwing knife - but those obviously take a lot more precision and skill than the other abilities I'm talking about right now. Aaaaaand that's the way you have to look at it. Yes, Storm has an extended range melee. It's powerful, it's effective and efficient. But the only reason it's being so critiqued so hard right now is because it's a shotgun meta for the most part. & because shotguns are so inconsistent with OHKs, Storm melee is obviously the most effective in most cqc scenarios...& superior to every other melee. But, then you need to take a look at the other classes and what strengths [i]they[/i] have in those same cqc engagements that helps balance it out...like the fact Strikers do 170 damage instantly. Or the Sunbreakers push you away & disorient the shit out of you. Or that nightstalkers can shadestep your shotty-melee and destroy you because if it. Or that Voidwalkers will get their health back on hit. Orrrrrr that Sun gets OV, or pushes you away 10ft... Orrrr that Defenders can get OVs on shotty/melee kills, that's stronger than every other OV in the game. But none of that matters I guess. (& I didn't list all the different possibilities, because obviously that would be way too long) Because Thunderstrike reaches too far 🤣

                  Because of the nerf to shotguns and auto rifles. Max one hit kill range is about 8 meters on a shotgun. And consistent max kill range is probably about 6-7 meters. And that's GOD rolled matador with aggressive ballistics, rangefinder and reinforced barrel. If you have full auto it will lower the consistent OHK range. Auto rifles just aren't competitive so I'm not going to even bother going into them. Uncharged warlock melee is 6 meters which is pretty silly. The issue with thunder strike is it stretches out to 9 meters and you can fire it off instantly after shooting your shotgun. So a 1-2 combo of shotgun+thunder strike let's you do enough damage with your shotgun at 11 meters, then you only need to close another 2 meters to blast them with the melee. All being said I don't think it should be nerfed. Buffing the melee range of the other classes would introduce counterplay. Buffing shotgun consistency, as well as hand cannon consistency when firing rapidly. Also giving auto rifles a damage buff. If this was year one where shotgun kill range and consistency was closer to 10 meters it would not have been an issue. When the docterine was in its prime it also wasn't an issue.

                • Because shotguns got nerfed, with old shotgun range no one cried about melees but now a melee range is longer than shotgun kill distance, which gives it a huge advantage in shotgun fights.

                • People who compare thunderstrike to smoke and throwing knife are dumb. Thunderstrike (TS) is HIT SCAN! This means when you press the button the opponent takes damage instantly. This is not the case with smoke and throwing knifes. TS also had INSANE tracking and aim assist. Combine it with the fact that with feedback you can do 170 damage you get something incredibly OP. Combine this with a storm grenade which is decent and a OP super you get a very OP class

                      Throwing knives are butter knives and smoke is able to be avoided or ran out of. Thunderstrike has auto-drag and the range of a Matador with Crowd Control. What do Hunters have? A 142 headshot, 0 aim assist throwing knife and a smoke grenade that requires your other grenade to be truly lethal.

                      • Because you have to do this weird thing called AIMING YOUR ABILITIES with every class except stormcaller. Does thunder strike have an arc? No. Does it require a headshot to get the most damage? No. Does it have to be aimed? No. As for smoke, the initial explosion does significantly more damage than the DoT that smoke provides. It does however slow you down if you make contact with it at anytime. And for it to actually be effective, you have to throw a grenade and the smoke to get a kill. [spoiler]I know I'm a salty hunter main, but I can't stand stormcallers[/spoiler]

                          Simple, it's Amplitude It has 9 meters of range. Three more than the traditional Warlock melee range. I personally don't mind it but that's the reason it causes salt within the community.

                          It really isn't an issue. You have to be seriously special to miss any of the thrown melees at the range spec thunderstrike so whiny hunters complaining about their lost melee charge is a laugh. Sorry Titans, really all there is to say for you.

                        • Honestly if the other two options weren't so bad for crucible it wouldn't be used as much, but because that's the way it is everyone uses amplified range so it's seen as overused Half the issue is people shotgun you outside of normal OH kill ranges and finish you off with melee It gives them a major tactical advantage over non shotgun users and shotgun users alike The issue isn't simply the range, it's the fact Thunderstrike complements the current shotgun heavy meta to a uniquely dominant advantage If there were better shotgun counters this wouldn't be as much of an issue. If the other melee options weren't lacklustre that'd also help. I mean rising storm does what, takes one second off of grenade and super? Like no wonder no one uses it. Maybe buff arc web to synergise with chain lightning and arc to a third person and that may then see more use

                        • While IMO I think it's probably the best melee in the game I don't think it needs a nerf. I mean their super can be devastating sure but really it isn't all that difficult to stop and their grenades aren't the best either. And if it had to be tweaked maybe just make it so it's not able to hit me when they aren't even looking at me.
